Just the 1 e/w bet Race 8- horse 6 Cloud Nine @ $7 , the race has very little depth

Just out of interest races 7 and 8  both over 2500 metres and both for 9k and they have various conditions , but could any of the horses in race 7 , be eligible for race 8 , because thats where they should be because it is an infinitely easier race . A horse like Barbados who was a better run than Cloud Nine last start  , but it is in the much harder race 7 and that is one of the reasons it is 100-1

Dainty's Daughter Classic' looking at the results this morning i see Irresistible ran last, checking her form in NZ i can't understand how she would get a start over I Cross My Heart a winner of 4 races and nearly 100k in stakes.

Irresistible, 8 starts, 1 win, 2 placings, a life time winning record of 2.1.7, earned $17,000 in stakes.

Last start a struggling  6 length 4th in an 8 horse NZ Sires race back in February after a win in a maiden at Cambridge.

I Cross My Heart, 19 starts, 4 wins, 9 placings, a life time winning record of 1.54.8, earned $92,000 in stakes, Group 1 winner.

The connections of I Cross My Heart should be waiting with baited breath for the explanation of the astonishing decision as to how she never gained a start (1st emergency) as they watched Irresistible go out through the back door with a post race vet check producing a NAR.

Does anyone know, who actually is on the WA field selection panel.
  • JayJayJayJay    7,924 posts
There is a selection panel of ? for Feature Races, probably Nathan Scott in charge as Harness Manager, and a ranking for majors with Golden Tickets etc.

For standard races, the "system" selects based on whatever conditions apply in the preamble ( reverse pointspoints, dollars last 5, pref to level or whatever).

Not sure how Louie Dior is only an emergency race 2 Friday Night  but bound to be some logical explanation. On form, you would think an automatic start in front of quite a few others?

It seems Louie Dior was a late nomination therefore even the non preference L7 horse got a start before it.

Yep, late nom, I don't know why they bother with the original nomination deadline. Can't remember when they haven't extended nominations.

In this day and age with the technology and  the computer systems that are available,I dont see any need for any selection panel, for any race.
Surely for any Group or prestigious race, a points system could be developed and that system be used for all feature races that are open to all comers.
Points could be allocated for previous Group wins, stake money earnt, class horse has reached, wins in country, wins in city, form last five starts etc and that system adhered too.
Human interference is a concern,as we all have different opinions, friends relatives, morals and ambitions.
By putting such a system in,it would save time, arguments, dollars, unnecessary staff etc,
but above all it would bring transparency and bring some sort of confidence to our Industry which is sadly lacking.
Integrity is so important, rules should be clear and concise,no loop holes, and everyone involved be treated as equals,

    Lets just be Fair.

Take a look at Tuesdays GP meeting and you might reassess your faith in technology. Four trainers who have two horses in a race have drawn alongside each other in barrier 6 and 7. What are the chances of that happening? I believe these are randomly selected by the Harvey system (correct me if I am wrong). We should be able to bet on this sort of thing, it may increase turnover.

Only one of the instances is a random barrier draw, the other 3 are PBD based on various criteria (Level or $L5 etc).
