On cup day plenty of grass but like 50mpa concrete underneath.

I heard that day they didnt want to water it incase they got a thunderstorm and there was big kick back as track hadnt had long to consolidate.

I dont know what the excuse would be know.

It's been the case at Ascot since the new guy started. Maybe the other track curators follow his lead

Yes these hard tracks are a worry should be watering a lot more. Curators should be consulting with trainers about track conditions and listening to them.

Just not possible, the trainers prepare their horses to win a race and the curators job is to get a track which is safe to race on. The trainers can have ABSOLUTELY NO input into how the track is prepared it's simply not their job. I'm not having a shot at you personally but I feel the comment is way out of context on different peoples roles within the racing industry

Correct Psycho. But it is also or should be not to the detriment of the horses having to race on it. The curator who didn’t listen to trainers . How is he to know . That his pitch is to hard etc. the curator may be a genius at his job . But may know little about the anatomy or bone structures of horses who have to run on it in a preparation

Yeah spink but his job is not to know about the anatomy of a racehorse, his job is to make a racetrack that is safe for all participants. Its kinda like saying like saying a brain surgeon should have realised that a patient had a in grown toenail and maybe he should not have done the surgery

The curator doesn't need to know squat about the anatomy of the horse, but if he doesn't know he is dishing up tracks that are too hard week in, week out, then it is extremely concerning

You’re right Flanders . What he does have to have an understanding of though is the effect it has on horses that have to continually start on hard surfaces. And generally speaking the only way he is going to know that is by trainers telling him. Mate these horses are jarring up because the surface your continually rock hard

Just saw the new Racecourse Manager Matthew Cork (ex NSW) with Rock-hard-Brock on twitter (link below). Hopefully he brings a new enthusiasm for preparing the track that has a bit of give in it.
I had forgotten that Matt joined the team.
Not sure what this means Brock does now but either way, as long as the track isn't like Mathieson Rd I don't really care.

What choice do they have Falc?
Don't race, lose owners, no earnings = go broke!
It's a bloody tough gig trying to make a quid as it is, let alone if you're not racing!

Seems everyone is too scared to water……
I wonder if the water corp is up their ass and they are too scared to say? I know its bore water and not mains water they use, but bore water use is a HOT topic on all govt agendas atm. Those with a bore will note that bore water use got limited last year.
