Captain Ravishing was tremendous but…

Harness & Greyhounds
Wtf - on track connections from the east turn up in jeans and t-shirts - jeez - is there no respect or awareness of public image. Call me old fashioned but no wonder our code is deteriorating. Footnote - Navy Cup used to have well presented Navy Officers for the presentation - now they (GP) just pass the trophy on track to anyone passing by without any formality. Mind you, the crowd was probably only a hundred or so - mostly connections - no trotting fans per se. Sorry to be negative- but that’s my take.

Agree entirely, Derby Night and The Beau Rivage wasn't open.

Maybe the powers to be might look at packaging a few of the group 1's into one night similar to what they do over east , from memory they used to have the Derby and Vic cup the same night at some stage and something similar in nsw , there's usually a decent crowd pacing cup night why not have the Derby on the undercard

RWWA and GP have dress codes but like a lot of rules they don't police them. We are a industry that lacks respect. If you don't respect yourself why would you respect anything else.

    Wow.

Trust Mick with the rebuild though, the old you learn more from a loss than a win he would have to know everything about what not to do if you are going to be successful by now!

When you have to put Italian night with the WA pacing cup to make sure you get a crowd you have a problem,

Did Gloucester Park do any advertising for WA Derby, Navy cup night?

When you look at other harness jurisdictions GP and it's management are a joke but the propaganda continues to suck the true believers in, as JayJay quotes the camels are on the horizon.

No camels on the horizon at Flemington yesterday amongst the 80,000 that rocked up....or at Ascot yesterday.

your talking about a day with multiple group ones on , that's my point they package a bunch of star attracting group ones on a day your going to get a big crowd it happens across all codes I'm every state even Stevie Wonder could see that , big race meetings = big crowds , unfortunately with the trots the one off group ones on a program just don't attract like they used to again not just a WA issue

There is no attraction for me to go to GP , souless dump just been let go by the ones in charge , and East Perth is East Perth as the WACA has found out

Where as if i was in Sydney and they were still racing at HP i most likely would  go each week , i found it highly enjoyable , easy to get to with the public transport , and i didnt need bookmakers or a bookies ring  , (which is todays situation ) i was very rarely in the bookies ring at HP . Just off their , there were 2 elevators which would take you up about 30 metres to an elevated foyer , 3-4 tote windows , with TV monitors so you could watch and bet on  Ballarat , Gawler etc . And from there you had access to the public grandstand , which was a sensational spot to watch the races .  And i  loved watching the horses do their prelims , so you could view that and then put your final tote bets on

Graham Bowyer who was once a very prominent AP trainer/driver , so much so , that in C Barsby calls he will say they have gone past Bowyers gate at AP , About 5 years ago i read about him , when he was young he was from Sydney and a Pro Punter , and he said he never had 1 single losing night on the punt at HP the reason being , that public granstand you could see every horses run in every race , and that is exactly right

No i found HP highly entertaining , i think id still go especially if i was working around the city , and i think plenty of people would still go to HP , where as GP is a graveyard

I honestly think HP would have the exact same atmosphere as GP and Menangle and Melton etc

I think you are totally wrong , you probably would not even know what suburb HP was in , and the public transport set up and the whole lot , re proximity to plenty of suburbs , as evidenced by linking HP to Menangle and Melton hilarious

You most likely have never been to HP and that goes for the 2 heroes who gave you a like as well

It was not that long ago that 20,000 plus would attend the New Years Eve meeting at GP. Then the fun police stepped in and made the restrictions so tight that it became unworkable. The Police did not like having to split their resources between Northbridge and GP.

At the time I was critical of the participants who, rather than showcase the product to thousands of new faces, refused to nominate their horses so that their social life was not disrupted, resulting in small and uncompetitive fields.

The WA Pacing Cup should never have been moved form New Years Eve. Tradition went out the window just as it did with the Perth Cup which has now very successfully shifted back to it's old slot of New Years Day. All this fiddling with dates and the "age change" to December 31st....tell me what it has done for the Industry. We now find ourselves in the ridiculous situation of running a Derby when all but a tiny percentage of the horses are actually 4 year olds.

your missing the whole point , proximity and public transport infrastructure are not the reason behind the lack of oncourse crowds especially at the trots, HP would of been abandoned by the masses just like the majority of the tracks in Australia bar the outer country tracks where it's actually a day out for the community, why would you need to go to HP for a night out when you have a plethora of other options , and best of all you'd be able to stream HP on the app of your choosing in the comfort of what ever other venue you choose to go to, have a look at the US they function just fine without a crowd or atmosphere at the majority of tracks , your still living I'm the 70s and 80s marko If you seriously believe HP would be anymore relevant than GP

Chop Chop , the point your overlooking , look Perth is a great place to live , fantastic weather , affordable housing , nice and relaxed , and pretty safe

But Syd and Melb have got vibrancy - where as Perth has been known as Dullsville for half a century

People in Syd and Melb like getting out and about , got no problems going into the inner city after hours , where as Perth , the metro area , after hours , you could fire a canon down alot of streets and hit nothing

There is a complete differnnt philosophy re living over their , and if HP was open , theyd get 1500 their every Frid night , they dont want to be sitting at home ( which in alot of cases is some tiny poxxy 50 sq metre  unit ) they want to be out and about  enjoying themselves ,. having a night out

As someone who still gets out and about in Perth I can say perth is well and truly busy enough on a Friday and Saturday night for the size of its population the point your missing marko is across the country in the last 10-15 years there has been a decline in crowds , I went to Mooney Valley for the Hunter Cup where Blacks A Fake came off 30 to win I dare say the crowd was underwhelming , the fact is racing in general as a day/night out is growing less and less popular especially amongst the younger generations who are meant to be coming in and breathing new life into all 3 codes, I find it no coincidence that since streaming of sky racing has become more easily accessible, this trend has become more and more obvious, everyone is entitled to an opinion and I would confidently say HP would be no better off than any other track is today if it still existed unfortunately since it is no longer around all we are doing is guessing and assuming
