Winterbottom Stakes Day 2024

West Australian Racing
I think it goes without saying there are a few lucky ownership groups who have scored a runner in a Group 1 that probably wouldn't have dreamed they'd be starting.

just had a look...half of them cluttering up the field. should not have accepted. what was the cost to nominate and accept?
  • FlandersFlanders    1,289 posts
Agree 110% with you both... there should be some level of decency in the quality of the field.
Always get hard luck stories in this race and it's usually caused by a runner that shouldn't be there

Only brings forward the chance of the race being downgraded

You could exclude all horses with a BM of under 100 ? But that is going to leave you with 8 runners and that is no good for betting, and I dont support blanket rules like that anyway. I like to see some of the better Group 1s with only the best horses but if the owners pay up to run their horses which are we going to delete if the rules are not in place to eliminate them ?

Not sure Elite Street would've got a run under those circumstances so I agree with no blanketing.

Crippalenko was $41 in a 66+ at Kalgoorlie (Ronnie Sayers to be fair) 4 starts ago. I assume the owners at that time would've been thinking Country Championship at that point, rather than a Winterbottom.

Yeah agree like SHAMUS AWARD in a COX PLATE and TALENT SHOW in a Perth Cup also

I can see what your saying,I suppose the thrill of having a group 1 runner is hard to pass up and you never know I think a horse like Crippalenko is an up and comer and maybe he has come on a bit since his last run.

It's a 1000m horse in restricted grade, would be a minor miracle winning this, nah a MAJOR miracle

I like the way Rope Them In won last start with blinkers on first time. If they ride him coldish I reckon he's a good each-way chance

Good morning Guys. Recently joined the Forum after a hiatus from betting on and attending WA racing events due to health issues. Like your discussions and in depth knowledge of the racing scene in WA. Use Blackbook system but still in its infancy as I start collecting data and watching races.
Central Force in first - place chance.
R2 Royal Toronado to beat Fly With Caution. On the back up.
R3 Comic Hero win Regal Statue and Barney’s World in exotics.
R5 Going for Generosity to beat Jokers Grin in this one.
R6 Mai Aloha didn’t get a run against top 3. They would be all in my first leg of Quaddie incl 10.
R7 Baby Paris hard to beat. Like The Boss Lady and Amber Glide included in exotics.
R8 Have Western Empire in BB but to be honest can’t get a gauge on the Eastern States horses other than Overpass looks likely despite draw. Maharba looks good ew. Lady Laguna with JMac in board.
R9 Tough race. Wubin Gold. Yarralea. Miss Sky High. A few others could surprise.
    Good luck to everyone.

Norich 6yo having its 49th start grows a leg to win in 1:08.84 into a headwind carrying 57.5kg. WTF  @-)

A joke, that track is closer to a Fast 2 than a Good 4, but lets keep bullsh!tting. Who honestly believes this rubbish.

the first 2 races were lightning fast for that grade.

    Seriously!
