Can someone explain how a horse can sustain a laceration high up in a nostril? I'm not all over such things, but I can't help but wonder- could this be a result of being drenched pre-race? I can't think of any way this can occur organically.... Below is the extract of such occurrence today at Pinny which caused a well-backed horse to be scratched at the barriers "HIGH COMMISSION was a late withdrawal by Stewards at 4:45pm when the gelding underwent a prerace veterinary examination on arrival behind the barriers and was found to have blood present in its near side nostril. Upon further examination by the veterinarian in the stall area following the race, the gelding was found to have a laceration high up in its near side nostril which would account for blood being present in the nostril and as such no action was taken against the gelding"
I agree with Rodent regarding Hit The Jackpot. Rarely do you see a horse accelerate that fast at the concluding stages of a 1000 metre race Might have taken Parnham by surprise.
Meg Ryan would have been happy with that and Ripley wouldn't believe it.
You'd think it would be then directed to give a sample. Not mentioned in the stewards report so I guess the stewards/vet don't agree that it is potentially a little suspicious
How the hell did Hit The Jackpot do that? Only 2 starts down the straight previously and both unplaced. It's won by 3L but ran sideways the last 200m.
I just did the calculations with my old mate Pythagoras. If the track is 20m wide and you run from outside to inside over the last 200m, you're only running an extra 1m!
