Very disappointed to hear that Mingenew has again had their Cup meeting put off. The club has put in an almighty effort to have the track at its best however the stewards have deemed it unsafe. Obviously riders and horses safety have to come first before anything however....why has it taken to the week before the meeting for the powers to be to go and inspect the racing surface ? Surely after last years miscommunications RWWA would have made a note to themselves that they need to inspect the once a year racing tracks far earlier than a week before the event is to take place. The clubs are run by volunteers and the whole community gets behind and supports these events which are an integral part of the towns social calendar.
I don't know the "ins and outs"" of what transpired this week and have only seen a few photo's of the track surface ( which looked amazing) but surely it is of some importance upon RWWA to try and keep these clubs operational . Unfortunately I'm not sure the club can bounce back again after so much time, effort and money  was invested to get this years meeting happening.
Absolutely feel for the committee, community, trainers and owners who will once again miss out on what is one of the iconic race days of the midwest race season.

I’ve seen the photos the locals are putting up too but I’ve also seen a few they are not putting up. Why wouldn’t they call upon the Geraldton Turf Club staff for guidance say 3 months out then 2 months out.

That is the point I think Bobcat, surely RWWA should have been proactive in inspecting the track earlier than it has. Any issues would have been highlighted and given the club a chance to rectify any problem area's.
And yes the club also could have asked for a track inspection and guidance 1 or two months out from the event.
Unfortunately for all involved the end result may be the nail in the coffin for another country club.

A dig from you Vega, but you are not far from the truth. I checked out a WPix photo shoot on Farkbook, Pingrup, 200+ photo's 10 actual racing photo's. By the looks they had a fantastic crowd. Woner how many pen pushers at RWWA have actually attended these type of meetings.

Just think it's too hard to get a turf track up for one meeting a year & costly too (or 2 like Newman was). Revert to a dirt track & all problems (well most) will go away

    York did the reverse

Went from sand to grass at York ? Geez I been going there since Count Stook won the Cup and never remember it being sand at York, Beverly is the only sand track I can recall

I remember Northam got smashed by locusts around 30 years ago and they put in a sand/oil track for a bit. Only temporary of course.

Correct Flanders and they used an inside track.

Psycho I do not recall Count Stook or the year but York was a dirt track previous to grass.

When NSW first covered Northam they raced on that dirt track. Must have been around 1990??

OK I don't remember that being the case, I can only remember grass at York, I probably started going there in the late 80s

Count Stook....Owned by Tony Ziggligetti I believe.....may have been trained by Peter Finger at one stage....raced in the Norwest at end of his career.

Szigligeti would be a decent Hungarian spelling of the name ? But I'll stand corrected again  :))
