He was already WA's best performing first season stallion. Sad indictment on the state of breeding here, so now he will advance up the list a little bit and with luck finish as the leading Sire for the State this year.

Why a sad indictment? Because hes not one of your stallions? What have you got to offer? Stick with the photography.

    another damo classic.

I think you'll find he's in the top ten nationwide, so more so it shows how hard it actually is to notch up winners as a first season sire, but even so get what Damo is saying.
You can only do what you can do though

Worst first season crop of Stallions for years. People like you are poor judges and should stick to internet forums trolling.

Exactley, you can only do....and whats to say he isnt very prepotent. A horse like Dantes Fury springs to mind, not a great female family but could get winners.

Trolling? Put up a comment didnt I. From a bloke that wanted to bring Shinzig here =))

Interesting note from yesterday's 2yo race.
    Places getters sired by :
    1st Universal Ruler (Scenic)
    2nd Due Sasso (Scenic)
    3rd Universal Ruler (Scenic)

I wouldn't run form lines via Due Sasso stock. They have the depth of a kiddies wading pool.

Scenic mares when covered by Blackfriars are superb, interestingly enough, Playing God doesn't seemingly have that in front of him with a lessor dam line behind him. It will be interesting to see if his sireline can dominate over the mares he covers. I would be less than confidant breeding Due Sasso mares to either stallion though. I think it is essential that the mare have some sort of ability, and sadly they just don't.

well we finally agree on something Mr Wyer. Shame it's not that important.

    First Winner for Universal Ruler

    Tara Madgwick - Sunday, 4 May 2014

    Scenic
Lodge freshman Universal Ruler sired his first winner when racing returned to
    Belmont Park on Saturday.

    Universal Ruler

    Universal Ruler
    His
brilliant youngster Rebel King won the Westspeed Nursery (1000m) untouched by
four lengths first-up after a spell. The ease of the victory prompted a
string of superlatives from trainer Darren McAuliffe in a post-race interview.

    "This
horse is the quickest I’ve ever had,” McAuliffe stated. "And that’s no
disrespect to Universal Ruler - I trained him too but this one is in a
    different grade.”

    Rebel
King (2g Universal Ruler – Rebel Sister by Falbrav) had won a 400m jump-out by
13 lengths last month and started an odds-on favourite at his first run back
since February. "He got knocked down on debut and the protest was
dismissed,” McAuliffe recalled. "Then I declared him for the Magic
Millions Classic second-up but he pulled up shin-sore.

    "He’s a
high-cruising sprinter with a great turn of foot and he’s got a decent
motor. Some of his sectionals are off the richter scale.”

    McAuliffe
trains Rebel King for a syndicate managed by Impressive Racing owner Kevin
Berry. "We raced Universal Ruler and there’s a real buzz around his first
two year-olds,” Berry said recently. "They can run alright and, besides
our stable, I’m hearing there’s a lot more coming through with other trainers.”

    Universal
Ruler (Scenic) defeated Australian Horse of the Year Scenic Blast in the LR
Perth Stakes at two and trained on to a Group 3 victory in the Belmont Sprint.

    Scenic
Lodge will announce its 2014 service fees for Blackfriars, Dash For Cash and
    Universal Ruler this week.

To be fair it  would be pretty hard to contain yourself after a win like that ,probably one of the best wins ive seen for a while which such arrogance ran 57.81 and was eased down  and they own the stallion so was a good day for them credit were credit is due

Fair enough, but he's basically said he's better than UR. I just dongy know why youd open yourself up to criticism down the track.

As an owner of a horse with torn ligaments, chips in its knees, and only three legs that ran second to UR too often......Is that really mouthing off so much??? =)) =)) =))

Only stirring........UR is doing well in his first season on the track

Anyone who's got a mare / mares with a bit of Fairy Bridge in them (other than through Sadlers Wells) - I'd be interested in having a chat

Been watching gold coast sales, makes you wonder why you would send a mare to stud, after buying 4 mares in foal at last sale be hell of a lot cheaper to buy 4 at next sale instead of paying service fee, handling and agistment fees.seems ridiculous.

    Yep
Already regretting not going, and just booking my flights to Melbourne now

Also hence why I'm looking to help out any mare owners that may be holding stock of particular interest to me.

Dont blame ya,almost registered and online bid on a few.should have.do you stand universal ruler etc.
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Own a share of, don't stand.
Chasing some mares to replicate the bloodlines of rebel king. (ie inbreeding to dominant females)
  • joffajoffa    122 posts
Sounds like a good idea as he seems to be a smart one.may only send 2 off this year, universal ruler probably for one and undecided on my charge forward mare.
  • joffajoffa    122 posts
curious, when you buy a share of a stallion what does that entitle you to.1 service a year or what?
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
All sorts of deals with stallions.
    Can buy A nomination.
    Can own outright.
Might own a certain % for which certain number of mares applies.

General rule is more owners the better - get numbers
  • joffajoffa    122 posts

INTERESTING.May have to look into which stallions have % available.cheers mate food for thought.i have got enough mares.

  • DamienWyerDamienWyer    7,709 posts
For someone who has a few broodmares, taking a share in a Stallion can be a little bit blinkered. I can't really see a point in taking a financial position in a Stallion that is not highly commercial. If you feel that a past investment is not going to make it either in the ring or on the track, your stuck with it as you have to chase your money.

Those problems don't exist if you keep an open mind to your breeding selections each season. Putting Blackfriars to one side, I can't think of a single Stallion in WA that I would want to be financially tethered to at the moment.
