    Anyone listen in this morning? Thoughts? I only listened in briefly but worry with Darren that he is going to be asked to comment on a lot of what he hasn't seen. He himself when asked about the olympics said he hadnt watched much as he was "a very busy man".

    Sounds like they will try to go more sports orientated which i'm not sure I agree with buy will continue my usual morning swap between them and sport fm depending on guests/topics.

    Good luck to all involved anyhow hope they get the boost they're after.

    It was fresh at least.

    There were some good parts and some teething issues. 

    I like Gareth Hall & Stevie B, add a positive, energetic vibe to it all which I need at 6am when driving to the gym hungover on a Monday morning. 

    Wes's humour is good to have back too.

    Well, I found it envigorating - Gareth is going places. Don't expect everything they say necessarily agrees with everyone - that's the beauty of good radio. Better than false laughs on FM breakfast radio, tedious ABC breakfast radio and Bally hoo on 6PR with heaps of ads. Enjoy the ride race and sports fans.

    Response from Jason Brown about comments on this mornings show.

    Very misinformed comments this morning calling W.A jocks precious regarding heavy 10 tracks. If the whole track was rated a heavy 10 that is fine but we had a inconsistent surface at the 600m mark which anyone with any idea would know puts horses welfare and soundness at risk.

    Quality of what ? Horse or Jockey ?

    I personally think to hit a wet muddy patch at 60 kmh or higher is highly dangerous putting both horse and rider at risk. Today we scratched a filly known to not handle soft tracks, as what is the point ? As it was, the other runner this morning was on the rail, running only 'fair' leaving more questions than answers.

    To blame Jockeys for being lacking in quality is grossly unfair, but that's just my thoughts.

    If a track isn't rated the same all the way around it is then rated inconsistently.....So i once again ask, when was the track last rated the same all the way around?

    I doubt it ever is. The penetrometer takes a series of readings at different parts of the track to create an average reading for the track...it is never consistent..it is an average. So they ride on inconsistent surfaces all the time. But when one of those readings is a heavy 10, we dont race.

    I've been told there were puddles on Saturday where water has never been seen before, and that is a lot better reasoning for the races not going ahead.

    Another question that will go unanswered...how long since we have run races on a heavy 10??? It is winter FFS, the tracks get heavy, but we just dont have heavy 10 race days..Some get downgraded to a 8 or 9, but when was the last time we went racing on a heavy 10 track???

    i don't have any 10's for belmont.
    there was a heavy 9 on 26/7/14 where the meeting was called off after 2 races.
    but it was about as heavy as i have for anywhere according to my numbers, so i guess it comes down to the individual with regards to what they call it.
    most of them tend to underplay it(everywhere, not just wa), as maybe they think it will affect turnover?

    ascot, the only instance of heavy i can find is last 3 races with heavy 8 on 5/12/15

    Think he has every right to respond if it was labeled on air that they were "precious" without following through on the statement made by the Chief Steward.

    Gareth Hall evidently asked Michael Grant if the jockeys may have been a bit precious by refusing to ride on the track and Grant said they were entitled to consider safety paramount.

    The shining light after two days of the new show is that it is refreshing when a guest in interviewed to have a question asked and the guest is than allowed to answer without the host continually interjecting with his own views.

    Not like the "Red hots" where GHall's grounding is, where they bring out the Tractor with the chain scraper on the back and all is hunkey-dorey after a few laps  ;)

    The new program is obviously designed to cover a wider range of sports and not only racing and has had some very interesting guests on.

    With sports betting ever increasing it ;probably makes sense.

    A three hour show just covering thoroughbreds with the usual trainers using it as their soapbox would also have little appeal to a wider audience.

    Got tired of that a longtime ago.  

    In actual fact and TABRadio have jumped on board to a degree, the younger generation are into Podcasts now where you can select what you want to listen to. I notice TABRAdio do hourly segments, but to me that is too long, rather they split it into further sections, where you can select. If they did this I would download what I want and then can listen when time permits

    The best way to allieviate the boredom @para is to place a bet on it ! One of my first sports bets was on a hockey game...several Olympics ago..no interest in hockey whatsoever but I needed a win! Learnt more about hockey in one night than had ever before. Pity lost the bet though. ~X(
