$600,000 nomination fee for the chance to win "only" $5,800,000 ?

Not that's definitely only for the rich and brainless......

  • bookieloverbookielover    2,623 posts
Another joke perpetrated on the racing public by V'landys.

It's a race which will have no meaning, other than being a vehicle for Godolphin and the ultra wealthy.

Just like the so called Championships, it will be a miserable failure.

Owners will be able to buy a spot in the 12-horse field with a three-year commitment for $600,000 a year and spots will be able to be traded.

might be a bit better than you think mate? qualifies you for 3 years worth and can be traded possibly meaning owners/trainers can trade a horse in or out of the programme..

1.8 Million then over three years and you can sell of a year if I read that correct Hashy.

So say the owners of Flying Artie, buy a share for 1.8 mil for 3 years, he comes out and wins and they retire him. They can then sell of a spot in the field the next year to whoever for what ever price. You never know a superstar might come along and need a spot and the owners might pay 1.2 mil to get a spot in the 3rd year.

Yes, so not a "bit better" at all.
    Actually a "bit" (LOT) worse.
Chances of a horse being fit and healthy and up for it three years in a row - MINIMAL.
So at best let's say $900,000 to win $5.8m, or - $1.8m for two chances at winning $5.8m.

The only play is in trading the "rights", yes.
And they will only be worth more than the issue price if they restrict the number sold, and they are all sold.

I'll take my chances at the Casino......

What about spreading some of that money out to the battling trainers and jockeys who sweat it out at outer country meetings at places like Kempsey , Coonabarabran , Walcha , Wagga , Armidale , Taree , Queenbeyan etc. The backbone of the industry.

    Agree 100% Riders.
    The battlers are always forgotten.
Petey will say that they recently raised prize money in the bush so the battlers should be happy.
The problem is that expenses for all the bush trainers rise much faster than stake money does.

The Pegasus race in the USA was a flop, and I reckon this one will be too.

To be fair - there isn't any "that money".
The stakes for the race are self funding, like a big self betting pool.
Racing NSW aren't contributing to it at all (in theory).

On that note then though - how many owners have $1.8m to even buy a slot ?
I guess for 99% of us the earn can be on then selling (or leasing) a good sprinter to someone who has, and holds the rights to a slot.

Which I guess then is achieving what you suggest (that money to battling trainers / owners).
And even more so - that money is coming from the Richie rich owners, not Racing NSW.
    It's brittiant !

just a carrot for the likes of coolmore , darley , swettenham , newgate , arrowfield to race on with the 3yo colts and entice them to run as 4yo's , will be seen as a sires race much like Victoria's 3yo races finishing with the coolmore stud stakes

Buy all 12 spots for $7.2m and pocket the $10m.

    Yes, you are correct.
Article read as a MIN of 12 slots sold, but the actual race conditions read as ONLY 12 slots sold.
So yes, it's a scam for those that can stump up the $1.8m !!!

and a scam for the breeders when they have to pay an extra 20k for that stallions stud fee cause it won a $10m race

It's a bit of a joke, isn't it? Building a grandstand to keep the plebs away. Then jacking up the prizemoney of the Queen Elizabeth so Messara can take it all for himself. An now trying to manufacture a race which exclude the majority of participants?

    Sport of kings......certainly is.
Encouraging new participants into the industry ....not happening .

Think Lee Freedman trained a moderate performer called Mt Everest that went around in Melbourne several years ago. Mt. Everest the horse will be chuffed he should lead them out onto the track b-(

It was pathetic to hear Peter Gelagotis begging for new owners after Malaguerra won the Australia Stakes last Friday night. Freedman won a Group 1 with that horse and the owners still moved it on. Gelagotis also acquired The Cleaner from Mick Burles

The race has just come a fraction late for Takeover Target , Black Caviar , Apache Cat , Buffering , Hay List.

WTF would Joe have got $1.8m from to enter TT ?
Perfect example though of someone else holding the rights, and Joe owning the horse.
Do a deal - your rights, my horse.
Run him and split the winnings.

I just don't see how it's going to work. The Pegasus World Cup worked but America has more billionaires and private ownership of sporting franchises is more common there. They can't even find a buyer for the Newcastle Knights here and the Sydney Kings went for a bargain basement on the open market. Acceptance fees of $600k? Are they serious? It's basically an 8-1 gamble in an industry where most of the trainers or owners don't punt to any serious degree.

I'd have to agree. Everyone was writing him off after a few ordinary runs then he pulled that TJ Smith Stakes run out of the hat :-O

Few new and better players for him to overcome this time though with Vega, SWR, Redķirk Warrior, Deploy(bet he runs boldly albeit up in grade he is tough as f and flying atm).....the old boy Chata may even need it a tad longer than 1200 or the sting out(last TJ win was on a bog heavy track and more like running1300m).

I know you cant completely write off a superstar and he will motor home no doubt but will be all too late to catch the great filly She Will Reign.. you fellas might want to bet each way :P

Who will lead... that squib Houtzen? Vega? Redzel? Deploy races on pace too but might want to take a sit.
Going to be a great race for sure.
