Comments
In the Qatar MotoGP, Maverick Vinales became only the fifth rider in the MotoGP era (2002-onwards) to win a race for two different manufacturers (Suzuki, Yahama).
The other four are Valentino Rossi (Honda, Yahama), Max Biaggi (Yahama, Honda), Casey Stoner (Ducati, Honda) and Andrea Dovizioso (Honda, Ducati).
It will be interesting to see how much Lorenzo can improve from his Qatar performance. He only started 12th and finished 11th, some 20s behind teammate Dovizioso.
A Yahama 1-2 with Vinales winning again. With both the Repsol Hondas and Dovizioso crashing out, the two Yahama riders have a nice lead in the championship after two races. Also, a second successive top-10 finish for Jack Miller.
STANDINGS
Vinales 50, Rossi 36, Dovizioso 20, Miller (7th) 15, Marquez (8th) 13, Pedrosa (=10th) 11, Lorenzo (=18th) 5.
Having said that, it probably still would've been more fun than having to start at the back of the grid like Button did after a 15-place grid penalty (after making through to Q3) due to having to change some of the engine components.
For the third year in a row, an ex-F1 driver won the Indy 500, this time it was Takuma Sato. Ironically, his only podium finish in F1 was also at Indianapolis, driving a BAR-Honda in 2004. Five-race veteran Alex Rossi (who drove for Marussia in 2015) won last year and Juan Pablo Montoya won the race in 2015, fifteen years after his first win there in 2000.
Pedrosa on pole position for tonight's Catalan GP. I know he's Spanish, but it's still interesting how much better he qualifies in Spain than he does at the other circuits these days. Although having said that, his performances this year are an improvement on those from last year.
Qatar: Qualified 5th, finished 5th
Argentina: Qualified 5th, DNF
USA: Qualified 4th, finished 3rd
Jerez: Pole position, winner

Tonight's grid

I also gather he is stuck at Red Bull for a while or what? is it likely their pace will improve anytime soon?
