STANDINGS
1 Japan 17 (+9) - to play AUS (H), SA (A)
2 Saudi Arabia 16 (+6) - to play JPN (H)
3 Australia 16 (+6) - to play JPN (A), THA (H)
4 UAE 13 (-2) - to play IRQ (A)
If SA beats JPN, AUS would need to beat THA and also finish ahead of SA on GD. If SA and AUS finish equal on points & GD, SA would qualify ahead of AUS (based on H2H results).
Hopefully, the Socceroos can at least get a point out of tomorrow's game and take this out of the equation.
If equal on points and GD, SA would qualify ahead of AUS, due to more goals scored in this group stage (SA lead 16-14).
If they finish with the same goals scored, the next tiebreaker is H2H results (AUS lead SA, with a 3-2 win here and a 2-2 draw there).
TIE BREAKERS
1 Points
2 Goal difference
3 Goals scored
4 H2H record of tied teams
5 GD in matches between tied teams
6 Goals scored in matches between tied teams
7 Away goals in matches between tied teams
8 Fair play points (lose points for every yellow & red card)
9 Drawing of lots by FIFA

Bring back Guus!!
You are a stat machine !!!!
1 Japan 20 (+11)
2 Saudi Arabia 16 (+6) 16 goals scored
3 Australia 16 (+4) 14 goals scored
The AUS v THA game will be played hours before the SA v JPN game.
Scenarios for AUS to qualify on Tuesday:
• If AUS win 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1 or 3-2, need SA to draw or lose;
• If AUS win 3-0, need SA to win 1-0, to draw or lose;
• If AUS win 4-0, need SA to win 1-0, 2-0, 2-1 or 3-2, to draw or lose;
• If AUS win 4-1, need SA to win 1-0 or 2-1, to draw or lose;
• If AUS draw, need SA to lose.
If AUS loses, will have to playoff with the 3rd place side in Group A, with the winner to playoff with the 4th place side in the CONCACAF confederation.
