Battle Of Bunbury

Harness & Greyhounds
The Battle Of Bunbury tonight looks a cracker of a race with top 3 year olds Cott Beach, Golden State, Betchers Brook, Speed Man & Miss Sangrial facing off just missing the brilliance of Jack Mac to top it right off.

    Bunbury 10/03
R1 Very keen on 4 - Great Googlymoogly. Great driver change and should outsprint them late. Too good.
R2 4 - I’m Stylish certainly looks the winner. 2 - Jimmy Recard and 5 - Courageous Disco for exotics.
R3 Very keen on 3 - Riri Rihanna. Hopefully it settles just off the pace and can zip past late.
R4 Think 3 - Anvil Rollover will lead and win this one.
R5 1 - Cott Beach has been going much better at its last couple and draws to lead here. I think it leads all the way.
R6 5 - Shadow Magic showed good ability at its only start and on exposed form looks the one.
R7 2 - Somebeachparty narrowly beaten in trial in good time. Will improve off that and be hard to beat.

Cryptic lyrical tip night at Bunbury

Race 2------ ---------, children at your feet

Wonder how you manage to make ends meet
Who finds the money when you pay the rent?
Did you think that money was heaven sent?

    Race 3

She packed my bags last night pre-flight
    Zero hour nine AM
And I'm gonna be high as a kite by then
I miss the earth so much I miss my wife
    It's lonely out in space
    On such a timeless flight

    Race 4

    Out Of Space

    Race 5

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears
And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair
I hear the sound of a gentle word
On the wind that lifts her perfume through the air

    Race 6

    Repeat chorus Race 5

    Race  7

    Encore R 5 & R 6

    Curmudgeon...
    Race 2. Lady Madonna
    Race 3. Rocket Man
    Race 5. Good Vibrations
Now for the horses: Undercover Art , Compact Rocket and Cott Beach.

    Close Riders
Substitute Bailey McDonaugh for Lady Madonna and it leads you to Jimmy Recard  ....obscure but it rhymes
Correctamundo  with Compact Rocket  and Cott Beach

Too cryptic for me Curmudge, I am completely useless at cryptic crosswords. I can't even get clues like "What's the colour of the red spot on the Japanese flag".

Take the form out of Bunbury tonight with some riders....there was a howling repeat howling gale which they had to punch into up the main straight, and it was blowing in their favour down the back. Had a cursory glance at the sectionals and the 3rd quarter was understandably very quick in some races and slowish last quarters as they were punching into it up the finishing straight.

Also, some horses only arrived on course late as the Forrest Highway was closed down due to a large fire with detours etc holding up arrival times on course. I think the late scratching in the first was due to that and I know one trainer geared up two horses in race 3 within 22 minutes of pulling in to the float carpark. It was a bit chaotic for a while....the fire forecast on the radio as I was traveling up  was of an impending Armageddon with planes, choppers etc overhead but  fortunately, it didn't eventuate. I don't suppose they could have put the races back a little bit to allow for the trouble but there were only 7 races and they put them back when the power goes offf or there is lightning around but probably locked in by TV commitments.

Battle of Bunbury was a good race, leader had to smack into the wind and Bechers got home best off an easier run. Not saying the form is askew but some horses clearly not suited by the windy conditions. Not talking a stiff sea breeze here, it was a howling wind.

Anyway, a short turn around and off to Collie tomorrow for a good programme and an even better day out.

No thread on Collie today....bit surprising. Great day, big crowd as usual, perfect weather, the howling gale had abated and some good racing. They were really scampering along in some races...2.1.9 around Collie is low flying and Real Love could have gone faster, bolted in. The Trilogy too good in the main race, no Chicago Bulls or Ohoka Punter to contend with but Brookies Jet made him earn it. Nice touch from Matt Scott to give Emily Suvaljko a drive in her grandfather's memorial race.
Can recommend the Collie Cup in a few weeks to all the harness boys on PTT....clamber out of the armchairs and take the trip down South......Bridgetown Cup next week as well. Come and see it while it lasts coz it may not be here forever.

Wouldn't mind that at all JJ.
Happy enough watching the races on tv for the time being..
I think the mobile probably causes too many problems into the first bend though...would rather see a reversion to all stands at Collie...the track suits them well.

That first bend is sharper than it looks, got to ease into into it a bit....some think it is like charging into turn 1 at Claremont Speedway and the horses break, both pole horses and those trying to get across from out wide. I reckon there is an art to driving the track. Those with track experience there rarely have an issue whilst clearly, some horses don't handle the track at all. Some (most) drivers are a dab hand at holding up from gate 1 with the driver controlling entry and just holding the outside runners rather than charging in and trying to burn. Clearly, the track has its limitations but I like it....but your argument on the stands is solid.

I agree, should be just stands. With a mobile the field is too compact when they hit the turns. Causing way too much interference. At least with the stands the field is more spread.

What improvement in Liaurie Yesterday. Certainly was not missed by a few. On exposed form. should have gone around @ 50/1 plus
