A couple of good quality Cup races on tonight with our local (WA) Narrogin Cup field containing the likes of The Bucket List, Our Jimmy Johnstone, Devendra, Vulcan Tin amongst other good quality types whilst on the east coast the former time honoured Kilmore Cup is on tonight as well which has our West Aussie champ Soho Tribeca involved in up to his eyeballs if anywhere near his best you would think.

A double to the Soho's within minutes, one at Kilmore, one at Newcastle. Tribeca had to earn his win, Shadow Sax went terrific but in keeping with some past winners of the Kilmore Cup, Tribeca  was just too tough. Have a look at the win of Soho Burning Love at Newcastle. It won by about 50 metres!!!

Shadow Sax has a half sister who has been battling around Kalgoorlie, Wagin and Pinjarra for a while...Fauxmanda.

Given just an ordinary trip I think I'm Soxy will destroy his opposition tonight.....

Yes, interesting family. The dam Miss Saxony has produced 6 winners of 31 races...and Shadow Sax accounts for 18 of those wins......one of the winners is a trotter by Gotta Go Collect. And it is not as though they haven't used good stallions either, mare has just clicked with Shadow Play, who I really like as a sire, have made prelim inquiries about using him over Lady Azalea.

He seems to throw strong running/staying horses JJ ...females and males.
I would look long and hard at the double westbred eligible sires here though....especially Follow The Stars. The wraps on his foals are very good at this stage. Art Major and a 3 x 3  Cams Card Shark linked with your In The Pocket line....very appealing to me.
We have one yearling and 2 weanlings by FTS.....all superbly put together and decent natured.
Have heard good reports of the early break ins by him as well.

You wouldnt be confident taking $1.45 on the Voak Train after his last 2 efforts.
Drives some good races but when hes bad ...................

Yes, Follow The Stars is well in the picture....a filly foal down here is as nice a yearling as you could see, both conformation and tractability, lovely type...currently being broken in. Its a bit hard to get a line on Azalea as grand dam Blossom Lady sadly only ever produced 3 foals, one of whom was Mister D G and he carries Cam Fella through his sire Camtastic. Shadow Play has a good out cross through The Panderosa  (Western Hanover) and Matts Scooter.

My apologies I should have also added to this topic title the Bridgetown Cup which is run today and has assembled a very nice field as well including Courage To Live, Carter Michael, Major Stare, Machrihanish, RocknRoll Beachboy amongst others.

Absolutely VK, a top field for the cup, should be a great day. Weather fine, no wind, just perfect, a shower, shave and shoeshine and off we go. Hint..that downhill run to the finish can produce some flood home finishers after the climb up the hill to the 400m.

I reckon youve  left out the winner mate - Mister Ardee - in peak form - 12.5 furlongs suits - good e/w chance

Had a  horrid  run on the punt - burnt through that much cash in March - gone through the cash  like one of those penny dreadful mining stocks

However  i might have " turned the corner " last night at Junee - courtesy of a couple of mares - snuck a little bit of it back

Man Of The People - Ignite The Pasion - Baumgartner - might have a few bob on those 3 at generous e/w  quotes

The Cup market has gone up - Carter Michael $2.15 favourite - i reckon it is the lay of the century - hasnt had a run for 6 weeks - hasnt really got point to point speed - and Turvey who drives his horses like hes a New Zealander himself - or like Andrew Peace - you know i will get the breeze - who cares if it takes me half a lap 3/4s of a lap - or even a lap - i will eventually just get the breeze and then brain them

Im afraid pal - the field is too hot to do that today - wont run a place

Picture perfect day at Bridgetown, could not have asked for better weather and plenty of action. Race 1 was a bit of a demo derby, more breakers than Bondi Beach and a certainty beaten in Devils Courage...he will win races, a archtypical Courage Under Fire colt. Fortunately $2 bucks the place so no damage.Armbro Bliss never looked in doubt after leading and then  Our Mrs Brown paid astoundingly well for ACL, his first visit to Bridgetown in over 30 years. Eyes on The Money looked the winner in race 4 and did, and the back markers in the Cedric Jones Final began so well to make it a very competitive race but Skewsy Newsy got a sweet run to win. The Cup was very competitive and 3 votes to Tom Buchanan for a centimetre perfect steer on Courage To Live, another lovely Courage Under Fire type, after Rocknroll Beachboy looked home. Marko correctly put the mock on Carter Michael, don't know what happened to him and then Purist Silk made a mess of them in the last. Good trophies for all races, plenty of happy punters and smiling owners, although one owner just the one collect for the day...a bag of Bridgetown's finest Royal Gala apples to munch on for the drive home. He claims they were giving them away for free....yep.....100's wouldn't believe him but .....at least he had something to take home. Terrific day of racing on course...I remember when they raced under lights decades ago....freezing cold and a long haul back if you had a couple of slow ones in the float....this is a much better deal on a Sunday arvo. Good work to all the volunteers at the Bridgetown Trotting Club. Right, lets get the sticky bun order ready for tomorrow morning.

Heading into autumn and winter you are 15 votes clear in this years A Grade Harness Supporter Fairest and Best Jay Jay.....I can't see you being run down between now and Xmas unless you suffer a very very severe case of hopple chafe.

Haha @curmudgeon , easy doogs today, just 20 minutes from home. Pinjarra tomorrow is a bit more challenging to watch my horse go around. Don't get to GP as much as I would like even though I am a member but these country meeting are just so enjoyable. With Kellerberrin starting up soon, I'll be getting the chafe oil out or buying a helicopter.  Collie Cup next Sunday a must and their final meeting on April Fools Day....now I couldn't miss that as I am already qualified!!!

Very quick last 3 qts in the Cup 29.8 29.5 and then 27.5 - RocknRoll Beach Boy has improved a bit its last couple - i just thought it was an honest plugger - a touch on the lazy side

Trotting administrators ( except for Kevin Seymour - who makes the rest of them look like absolute mugs _ now that race at Newcastle last night - youve got the NSW Oaks runner up  Soho Burning Love - i played the quins and tris - now in the Vic Tab - the quinella pool was $270 - with a superstar in the field

Now if NSW Trotting administrators ( and Vic and WA are just as hopeless ) were half competant - they should have had a 10k Jackpot into the Quin Pool - promote it a bit - the pool would have totalled 100k  - 20% take out - they make a bit -but more importantly they might draw a few more punters into their product

U-Bet have those jackpots - and the pools are incredible - Jimmy Jacques - the 1st at GD - the jackpot exacta pool $97146 or something - unbelievable - you might get new punters

Some of those trotting administrators - theyd fit in beautifully at Perth City Council

What did he actually do  in that regard
  • ChariotsonfireChariotsonfire    2,929 posts
Ran a full page ad in ES Newspapers saying that inter dominions of three heats and a final was dead and in need of rejuvenation.

That led to the different hybrid changes over the next 6 - 8 years before WA reverted back to the original format in conducting three successful series.

Kevin actually provided limited sponsorship through his company Watpac to promote changes to the format for a number of years which were a dismal failure.

You could hardly say that Queensland harness racing is flying compared to the rest of Australia with very ordinary stake money and deep seated corruption constantly making the headlines.

    Well said Chariots.
Having been to a meeting at Albion Park a couple of years ago I couldn’t believe how ordinary the facilities at the track were (Chris Barsby has called from the top of scaffolding for 10 years since the old Stand was demolished for example) and speaking to a few participants up there it didn’t paint a pretty picture of Qld Harness at all.

    Metro Meetings last weekend:

GP 10 races total stakes $205,000 average per race $20,500
Albion Park 10 races total stakes $109,069 average per race $10,906.

Let's get Kevin over here to show us the way.

More like - lets hope and pray - that The Western Australian  Greyhounds Association continue to get criminally ripped off - in that it is their betting turnover - that should be going into their stake money - however  for some totally unfair reason it gets allocated to WA Trotting - however unfair stuff like that - there is normally a reckoning day

If K Seymour wasnt involved in Qld Harness Racing ( and he puts plenty of his own into stakemoney ) then Qld might be more like SA - i think thats a fairer way of analysing things

However ive noted - that  Eastern State  Trotting Administrators are to be  added to the group of  Eastern State  Trainers  Eastern State  Drivers - and Eastern State AFL footballers - in that they all no feuken good  - according to the wisdom of this forum

Personally I have no issue with interstate administrators or footballers I just like sweeping statements to be backed up by solid evidence not just perception, particularly bearing in mind that Queensland has nearly twice the population of WA.

Your grasp of the historical permutations involved with TAB distribution ratios in WA is sadly lacking if you consider the greyhounds are getting criminally ripped off.
Doglotto ...apart from having an aesthetic reminiscent of watching mice run around the skirting boards of your loungeroom has a dubious history in almost all jurisdictions.
The insidious unfettered creep of the number of dog races run now compared to the 70's advent of the sport in WA has never been subject to proper review in terms of ratio to equine races run.
Meetings have ballooned and the choking of vision with dog races makes watching that abomination Sky Channel akin to pulling pokie levers for the victims of the punt.
In the 60's harness racing agreed to gift thoroughbreds the 60/40 ration because the gallops were on deaths door. Both codes agreed to carve the pie with the dogs in concert with government assurances of a fixed status. We are no longer comparing apples with apples such has been the lack of rigorous integrity in the application of the original tri code setup.
