Maybe simplistic view but...give your drive every possible chance and the rest looks after itself.

That way Major Rush - place money home...and guess what ? If you're still bloody good enough you can win the race. Beats me what's going through the noggin sometimes. But you'll see it happen time after time. No probs if driving Pure Steel or Satinover...drive it like the best horse. Others..give it every chance and let the rest look after itself.

The driver at Harold Park he lost consciousness too, was motionless hanging out the cart. Poor commentator will never forget the sadness in his voice. He knew straight away. I hadn't heard of it happening, then after the race he said 'look I've seen this occur before and it's very stressful' I agree.

Hope Tony Ciuppa gets through this. Fortunately the foremost heart related medical treatment facility is located at Royal Perth Hospital which is only a stones throw from GP. Time is of the essence in heart attack treatment so cross the fingers for him.
Frank Ellis was the last reinsman I can remember apart from Gary Herbert to have a heart attack whilst driving. That was at GP and unfortunately Frank didn't make it through ....hoping for a better outcome here.

The reinsman at Harold Park was Stephen Ward driving Gaelic Uprising on 26th June 1995. He did survive it at the time, not sure if still alive today, the race is on YouTube but viewer discretion advised.

You’re quick to attack Kyle Harper. The horse has been beaten in 2:02.0 and you’re judging his frontrunning endeavour. Major Rush has led and won over the track and trip in faster time than that before.

If you’ve read through many of the previous posts you’d see I’m a fan of Kyle’s. For one tonight’s time was 2:00:6 but barring that I’m happy for anyone to hold the front but when a quality horse comes at your mediocre horse as hard as Ryan did it’s detrimental to your own chances to post it

Importer Exporter has rated 2:00.6 off 30m. The semaphore board showed 2:02.0 after the race so evidently the frontmarkers have gone slower than that.

A survey has been sent out asking for participant feedback on Racing Ahead Magazine. One of the questions is 'do you have ideas for a new name?' Why would they even consider wasting money on a new name and logo?

Anyway, recommend you all complete it - if you get Racing Ahead. I can forward you the survey I received if you aren't subscribed online and thus didn't get the survey.

2 horse war and Christen Me's brother home in 54.4 ...great race between those 2 and  the reasonable crowd was right into it...exciting to watch.

Have to fess up to backing a sprint lane winner last night....I put on the groucho marx mask before  sidling up to the collect queue.

Was also good to see old Hideout win for Peter Trefort, won well too, and then I'm Soxy ....the real I'm Soxy turned up ....for Brian Clemens. Not on either of them but good to see. Livin La Bamba also another enormous run but his racing pattern is against him, rattled home.

Bunbury Saturday night  meetings can be a bit ho hum but thought it was excellent racing last night.

Hopeful that the weather is holding up out at Kellerberrin as i'm looking to have a punt all day on the couch Sunday. They look very tough fields but that is what opens it up to have a small interest on each race for entertainment and hopefully some Ubereats money.

R1: No1 Maskim Blaze. Looks the leader to me, where you want to be in this class. It and the 7 to lead out my novelties.

R2: No10 Track The Navajo is one i've always had a bit of time for, will be running on just depends how many she can get past. Betshes Precious looks the class runner and the winner with even luck, might not get it so EW then 10 and novelties the two of them.

R3: Im Decedant. Soft run out sprint the first up horse drawn in front of it.

R4: No5 Flying Thunderbolt. Thought it could charge over to the top. If they over do it Manofthepeople can run over them at big odds.

R5: No2 Davinci's Fiscal. Thought this was the best of the day. QD:2,8.

R6: No10 Cheveyo. Had him in the quad last week and he just missed out, he's a better horse than a lot of these and in great form but he does need them to over do it a touch early, hoping Teddy does that for me. QD: 1,5,7,8,10

R7: No9 Danieljohn. Not a bet race for me but Our Big Slow probably holds up until Danieljohn gets there and then how do they beat him? Second thought Our Big Slow is probably a good place bet if the odds are ok. Probably gone far wider in the quad than I should 1,7,9,10.

R8: No3 Firth Of Forth. Thought he might shoot to the top and maintain a bit of a break. Plenty of chances. 1,3,5,8,11.

R9: No7 She Could Be Good off the soft pegs run.

    Kellerberrin

In the  1st - the no 10 horse Minium Wage - trial times were good - 1st start in a race - nice run 4th to Mr Henry . Last start at Narrogin in a much better field - got a mile back - horses got in its way

Today its $41 and $7 on Tab .com ( where you get the best odds ) had a small e/w ,The 8 horse is the best horse but it was just a run at Northam

Agree with Gilga - Chevevo -$31 and $6 - needs the pace on - if they walk its got no hope - but it hit the line hard last start . Funny horse Chevevo - theres about 60 metres between its good and back - but just had a small e/w - at the inviting odds

Like All Williams and Spot The Shark for an interest, also taking Adda Shooting Star on trust as the guide suggests. Hope the weather is a bit calmer than it is down here, blew the fur off the dog this morning!!!

Very windy day at Kellerberrin. Factor that in...hard to make ground into that wind.

The Train would have had to clean the brown coal out of his undies after race 7 ...he was Gonzo on the corner but somehow managed to stand his horse up and finish the race. Great work.

Yep, was good work indeed to stay upright, good save. The divvy on All Williams was most generous, both win and place ....seemed almost a certainty to utilise the sprint lane....that's 2 fast lane winners I have to fess up to this weekend, the groucho mask is getting a work out (as he orders extra icing and coconut).
Shooting Star is no star but far from the worst in that field...got a very nice steer.

I remember a time when if your horse galloped you swung it out of the way. Now you just hold your spot, hope it come back to a pace and if it does act like nothing happened.
  • curmudgeoncurmudgeon    2,417 posts
That was the time prior to the professional junior drivers Gilga. Up until that time stewards were mostly ex drivers and most drivers had a few miles and a couple of decent falls on the odometer. The simultaneous rise of non participatory stewards and green drivers saw the rule ignored. All it takes is for the hopples to drag one down while galloping and there is carnage .....not to mention the punter copping it via interference even if there is no fall and the galloper just knocks  everyone out of the race. Once again if you happen to watch the Eurotrots....as soon as practicable after a horse gallops ALL drivers veer out of the field either to the inside or outside. The sit here and chance your arm approach should be penalised if the horse has clearly not recovered its gait within a very few strides.

After watching the GP replays - i think Jay Jay might have a change of heart or opinion - re GP

Neighlors race last ( and i didnt have any bets last night except for Wagga and Aarrat) - but that is a typical GP race - horse in the running line - but gets no racing room in the straight whatsoever - sprint lane wouldnt have helped it - so his horse has no where to go at all - that would be pretty frustrating - and it is an often occurrence at GP

Melton might be an industrial wasteland - a tip - but at least horses get a run in the straight - there is room to move

Bunbury is not the answer - look at last Sat night - every winner was in the 1st 4 - predominantly leading - they all come home home in 56 or 57 - even old Hideout - it gapped them on the turn - screaming leaders track
  • curmudgeoncurmudgeon    2,417 posts
I note there has been very little (nil) comment here re Melton finally extending their passing lane to the length of the straight instead of that appeasement half lane they had in. The racing product has improved immeasurably lately because of the move and the head in the sand brigade have not uttered a peep.

I think Bunbury racing quite often suffers from the wide span in ability of some of its fields. One or two extra short priced chances mostly with the rest going around for minor place divvies. Once the short ones find the top the 64 to 68 sec halves are de rigeur and the duffers can't attack or they put their own chances to the sword. Come on down G Johnson.

Marko, I didn't have a problem with last night...Neighlor driven perfectly for the one x one and a 3 wide runner from the back came up and put him in a pocket...wasn't concerned at that point as it was too early to go....was hoping the three wide horse would drop off but he didn't and then, yes, we were held up but that is racing, that is tactics, that's the game. He finished off pretty well and ran another decent race which is all I can ask for. Tactically there was some really interesting races last night, the stand was intriguing and earlier races had genuine tempo and competitiveness.

K Prentice decision on AHR site - 12 month penalty - 150 was the reading

Its fair with Aust wide penalties- except NSW who throw the book at you

He said he recently used a new product called VAM - which he believes was the reason for the high reading

Just an observation - with the NSW hearings - theve got some emminent Scientist bloke who absolutely tears them to shreds - just blooody mocks them -  when they offer a reason for the high reading - eg -  im  using VAM - he might say  that might account for a reading of 15 etc not 150 mate  - and he  has also labelled several trainers feeding/supplements programmes as ridiculous

You dont bluff your way out of things in  NSW
