Was just about to post about this, but you beat me to it.

With that loss, Nadal will regain the #1 ranking when the new rankings come out.

Nadal wins his 11th Monte Carlo Masters (2005-12, 2016-18) beating Kei Nishikori 6-3 6-2 in the final.

He can equal this record for the most wins at the same tournament in the professional era, this week at the Barcelona Open (2005-09, 2011-13 and 2016-17) and at the French Open at Roland-Garros (2005-08, 2010-14 and 2017) in five weeks time.

Federer's best is nine at Halle (2003-06, 2008, 2013-15 and 2017), followed by eight at Wimbledon (2003-07, 2009, 2012 and 2017) and eight at the Swiss Indoors (2006-08, 2010-11, 2014-15 and 2017). Guillermo Vilas also won eight times at Buenos Aires (1973-79 and 1982).

True that @Paul good on you Sbs i like this channel much more than the others..however a quick note to Marion Bartoli put on some more clothes OR get a boob job hun you arent rocking your outfits by a long way :P

Anyhow...clay is not my favourite surface for viewing but i watched some of Djokovic's match where he was beaten by hmm lets say an averagely performed italian and during which the commentator(not Woodforde the other dude) suggested he is back.Personally i saw only glimpses of this and whilst im not sure he is 100% fit at the minute?..the Joker of old definitely doesnt let a 5-2 lead slip like he did in the 4th set to a nobody.
The roughly 2 sets i watched were bloody good viewing however(for example two clutch volley winners under massive pressure by Novak in the 4th set were stunning)but he is a ways off his top imo.

His demeanour during that "bizarre" post match interview suggest he is not feeling he is in top form either.

Halep is due, she's easily been the most consistent player on the tour in the past 12-18 months. Perhaps like Wozniacki (at the Australian Open this year), she'll finally break through.

On the other side of the court, since she won the US Open (where she beat Keys in the final, 6-3 6-0), Stephens has been very "hit and miss", having won only 15 matches (including a 8-match losing streak after winning the US Open) before her impressive run this fortnight at Roland Garros.

    STEPHENS SINCE THE US OPEN
    • lost 1st round in Wuhan
    • lost 1st round at the China Open
    • lost both matches in WTA Elite trophy
    • lost both matches in the Fed Cup final
    • lost 1st round at the Sydney International
    • lost 1st round at the Australian Open
    • lost in the Q/Fs at the Mexican Open
    • lost 2nd round at Indian Wells Masters
    • won the Miami Open
    • won both matches in Fed Cup tie vs France
    • lost 1st round in Stuttgart
    • lost 3rd round in Madrid
    • lost 3rd round at the Italian Open
    • lost 1st round in Nuremberg

    FINALS STATS
    • Halep leads the H2H 5-2 (2-0 on clay)
    • All 7 matches have been won in straight sets
    • Stephens has never lost a Tour final (6-0 in finals)
    • Regardless of the result, Halep retains her #1 ranking, while Stephens will move from #10 to a career-high #4 (she had no ranking points to defend as she didn't play any tournaments in 2017 until Wimbledon).

Straight-sets wins for both Nadal and Thiem in their respective semi-finals.

    MENS SEMI FINALS
    (1) Nadal beat (5) del Potro 6-4 6-1 6-2
    (7) Thiem beat Cecchinato 7-5 7-6 6-1

    FINALS STATS
    • Nadal leads the H2H 6-3 (all been on clay)
    • Thiem won last time, 7-5 6-3, in 2018 Madrid (4 weeks ago)
    • All matches (except 2016 Buenos Aires) have been won in straight-sets
    • Nadal needs to win to retain #1 ranking
    • Regardless of result, Thiem will move up one spot to #7
    • If Nadal wins, will join Margaret Court (Australian Open 1960-66, 1969-71, 1973) as the only players to win 11 Grand Slams at the same tournament (French Open 2005-08, 2010-14, 2017)
    • If Thiem wins, becomes only the second Austrian to win a Grand Slam (Thomas Muster, 1995 French Open)

And she did. The complete opposite to the 2017 final, where she was up a set and a break and lost to Ostapenko. This year, she was down a set and a break, but won 12 of the last 15 games.

Many casting an eye over Wimbledon?
Don't watch women's tennis much but Ash Barty is worth following.Just two rounds in and 6 of the top 8 women seeds already eliminated :))..and in good news Sharapova the cheat was eliminated in rd 1.

Men aren't fairing a whole lot better..Cilic, Dimotrov, Goffin and Thiem are gone and Zverev the 4th seed is on the brink of elimination down 2 sets to 1 in a match tbc..if he goes thats 5 of the top 10 goneski and overall 16 seeds have rolled after just 2 rounds.
3 Aussies are through to the last 32 but only one will progress in Kyrgios who should beat Nishikori.De Minaur continues to develop and a matchup against Rafa is good exposure for the kid do your best young fella thats all we ask(prizemoney of €100000 helps too)

Dont think Delpo is quite as dangerous on grass? so other than the top 2 blokes who still dominate all the slams Djokovic could be a fair danger, he is getting back to near his top definitely.
Kyrgios is the other imo.. his serving lately is huge and often unplayable. The "wild one" can give it a nudge and historically he plays real well against Federer and Nadal, does not fear them one bit.
If im reading the draw right though(and they win their next two matches)a Kyrgios v Djokovic quarter final looms large.

It's land of the giants out there now(Karlovic 6'11", Isner 6'10", Anderson, 6'8", Del Potro, Cilic & Alex Zverev 6'6", Raonic, Tomic 6'5", Krygios 6'4"), with Federer and Nadal & Novak looking like the last of the sub 6'3"/4" greats. A surface like grass highlights just how much of advantage a few extra inches are-maybe not the case on clay though. I think Raonic has missed his chance at Grand Slam glory and will join Tsonga, Dimitrov et al as also rans.

Agree, maybe except for the Final. The fact that Djokovic and Nadal will have to play tomorrow might help Anderson out a little bit, especially if that match ends up going deep into a fifth set. Nevertheless, it's going to be a tough for him, especially when you also add in the 13-11 5th set win over Federer from the match before. Good on him though, into his second Grand Slam final in the past 12 months (2017 US Open).

    Correct Paul.

Sorry I meant to say Anderson in my earlier post.

Yes definately advantage games for the final set in the final only.

I am suggesting Anderson has Zero chance in the final against whoever he plays.

When Isner played that marathon against Mahut a few years ago, he went out next match meekly if I recall. Over to you Paul to follow up
