@thefalcon  I'm not sure about a horse of that name racing in HK or Singapore. As for Grisedale, Robert Thompson & Greg Ryan are still riding, mostly in the bush. They'd have been here when you were last living here?

Might have been Terry O'Sullivan falcon will try to locate the race was about a week or two ago and think last race of the day.

O'Sullivan another hard nosed character. Either him or Sadler and do get those two a bit mixed up sometimes.

I read about jiggers and their use.
I understand that it is used in training and then on raceday the action of using the jigger is replicated so the horse thinks it is going to get a shock and hence runs faster.
What is the action that is used and who does it, the jockey ?

Usually a couple jabs in the neck with the but of the whip, from what I understand

    Harness is a little different,
One that's been "hit up" won't get slapped with the whip they get poked, but in saying that one that hasn't been hit up, a sly couple around the shaft and onto the hocks generally gets the desired result, disgraceful behaviour IMO

Interesting. @carey might be somewhat right ?

they must have had a suitcase full of evidence in order to warrant a raid but i would have thought this would have been an enormous piece of the pie. Smoking water pistol more like it.

A sworn affidavit from a stablehand and/or mobile phone pic/video of the jigger(s) would be enough for a warrant I'm guessing. I mean it's not like the raid turned up nothing is it? They obviously knew what to look for and where to look for it. That's something that suggests there was intelligence provided from someone within the stable.

I hear that he was undercover cop. If all of what really happened actually comes out, I seriously reckon an Underbelly type series will be a smash hit.

Was he working as a stablehand though? They had to have had some intelligence to plant a mole in the stable-or at least have reason to frequent the stable-in the first place. Surely they didn't wanna nail him that bad to just go on a fishing expedition?

I'll wait til some of this is actually confirmed as fact. As i said, the mysterious video has yet to be leaked and the cops certainly don't have it.

Apparently there's a herald sun article which reports:

"Secret phone taps are believed to have been used in the bombshell Darren Weir police inquiry.

The Herald Sun understands phone intercepts have formed part of the sporting integrity intelligence unit probe into Weir’s activities.

Police are following multiple lines of lines of inquiry but have not yet decided if they will charge Australia’s largest trainer.

Weir is expected to be disqualified for four years at a Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board hearing Wednesday over the possession of three jiggers, or electronic apparatus, allegedly used for shocking horses.

The phone tap revelations show the wide-ranging nature of a police inquiry which is also understood to involve video surveillance at a Weir stable.

Racing Victoria investigators had been running the jigger inquiry for 18 months before it was referred to police in August last year.

RV officials do not have the powers to carry out some intrusive investigative functions such as tapping phones.

Victoria Police, accompanied by Australian Federal Police and racing integrity operatives, executed warrants at properties near Warrnambool and Ballarat last Wednesday.

The raid uncovered the jiggers, an unlicensed firearm and a substance believed to be cocaine.

The Weir police inquiry goes well beyond the alleged use of jiggers.

Victoria Police has stated that one element of the investigation relates to “engaging in conduct that corrupts or would corrupt a betting outcome”.

Another is the “use of corrupt conduct information for betting purposes.”

Such matters — if police push ahead — would most likely be sent to the Office of Public Prosecutions for advice on charges.

Racing is awash with rumours of a video involving alleged maltreatment of a horse on a treadmill.

Racing integrity chief Jamie Stier said RV was not in possession of the video, but encouraged members of the public with information to contact them or police.

There is also speculation the phone taps might have intercepted conversations with licensed personnel, including jockeys.

Weir faced the RV stewards in a marathon hearing on Monday night.

That inquiry is not believed to have delved into betting issues.

Police have indicated there is nothing to support rumours that they are investigating drug-related offences linked to the Weir matters"

so we're supposed to believe that Darren Weir had three jiggers in his bedroom... and he pleads no contest... takes it on the chin.
but the other bloke, who also had a jigger at his house....was only using it because he has cattle on his property? So he will contest the charge.
    Give us a spell...

I know there are a few people on twitter screaming conflict of interest and they have a fair point regardless of whether Weir contested the charges or not.
