Not too often see a 3kg claiming apprentice gather 13 points in the Jockey Challenge - 3,3,3,2,2. A winning treble and two seconds to Chloe Azzopardi.

Jarrad Noske another runner up in the JC at a decent price.
Azzopardi $2.60 - Quinella with Noske 20/1.

Chris Parnham rode a winner but unplaced favourite at $2.50.

An apprentice in terrific form and claiming three kilos - there's not much better for trainers, owners and punters.

No comparison of course, but the great day for Azzopardi harks one back in time to a young hoop in Melbourne who at times was nearly unbeatable and best apprentice have seen in my lifetime - he was poetry in motion - Darren Gauci.

Both outstanding records. See MJ still training the occasional one at the outer country tracks.

The "Gauch" just caught the imagination at the time, also went on to be a good hoop and was fitting he rode a winner in town on his last day of riding.

With Chloe Azzopardi - doesn't seem that long ago when would be on course and see a almost shy and unassuming, but steely eyed and determined girl hoop in Linda Martin, who would sometimes be the only female riding on the day!

Martin held her own against all odds as that was one hell of a tough environment for a female hoop. No favours asked - none given. A pioneer, she would've ridden against guys like Rod Kemp, Mark Sestich, Peter Barnett, Jeff Noske etc.

May not have ridden a heap of winners, but just like the Melbourne Cup winning female hoop - could get them into the placings and winner's circle at big odds.

The whip rules with everyone saying this wouldn't have won if  such &such hadn't broken the whip rules......With Peter Cook it was sign to signify you were in big  trouble if he went for the whip.

Three top class apprentices with cook discovering the good life early, mal ,the playboy, The gauch never altered much his whole career the ultimate pro......Cook for me nerves of steel when he would just cuddle them. two melb. cups .two cox plates. ..Gauch,and oliver won senior jockeys premierships as apprentices, the apprentice that was like a shooting star won the seniors premiership.      as a third year apprentice was nick ryan.weight problems

Grest she is getting the opportunities,Simon Miller giving her great rides,a bonus for him with her claiming the 3kg,but did hear 3 more winners and she losers the 3kg claim, but even 2.5 is great with the winter racing approaching, but the good thing is she not only winning on front runners, but 2 of het winners where from behind on Sat,shows you how much confidence she has now.speaking of jockeys, anyone heard any news on how Brad Parnham and Lee Newman are coming along?any news on them on resuming?
