Can remember reading a good article from the U.S on major sporting team relocation - their view was no matter how much the pressure at the time - no matter how much it's going to "help" finances etc....the closer you can stay to a city area the better off you'll be.

When look at the problems of West Perth and the pressure on Perth to go deeper into the sticks am reminded of that article.

Perth relented thank goodness and now finally going forward again. They've kept the identity and still play in their area close to the city.

Where your established whether it be Bassendean or Shark Park - what the writer was saying don't move further out no matter what the temptation.

Interesting you say that as clearly the best 3 ovals atmosphere wise to watch Wafl are Lathlain and Bassendean and Fremantle a final at Lathlain would be something hoping they hang on this year.
Reckon if would in hindsight been a better result if Subiaco had gone to Joondalup and West Perth stayed at Leederville still not sure how West Perth are getting on there.

Riders WP would already be extinct if they had have stayed in Leederville.
Moving to Joondalup and gaining the northern western suburbs as their zone has enabled them to win 4 flags which I doubt would have been the case if they stayed as they were rock bottom and hadnt won a flag since 1975 in Leedy.
There are far too many WAFL teams based in around the city CBD (Perth, EP, Subi, Claremont, WCE).
The Greater Perth metropolitan area is a huge place these days stretching from Yanchep in the North West, Ellenbrook-NE, Mundaring/Kalamunda/Roleystone in the Eastern Hills, Byford-SE & the Peel district in the SW, having 5 teams within a 10km radius of the CBD is ludicrous and with WP moving back to Leederville that would be moronic imho especially as you have another 2 teams less than 2km apart in Fremantle as well.
Ideally in the WAFL you would have a team based in the following zones below-

    North (Joondalup-WP)
    North East (Bassendean-SD)
    South East (Cannington/Gosnells-Perth)
    South (Fremantle-SF/EF)
    Central (City-EP)
    Western Suburbs- (Claremont-CL/SU)
    Peel (Mandurah-Peel)
    SW (Bunbury- )
    WCE Reserves
    Fremantle Reserves

Makes sense to me VK but this Sports writer wrote an article slanting away from that and despite the arguments to relocate.

Was just in one of those magazine's picked up in a waiting area, hello what's this about...wished had cut out and kept it.

Have to tip your hat to East Perth - coach of the year so far for what he's got out of them.

Did give the Royal's a hope especially after I thought the Cardies were good things!

Perth with just the 1.4 (10) against $ubiaco yesterday recorded their lowest score in over 100 years apparently.
$ubiaco have now won 47 of their last 48 home and away wins and yet the WAFC believe there is nothing to continually see there......

One team appreciated the heavy track, the other not so much.

It's all ok VK heard somebody from the WAFC say "it's an even competition" hahaha...goes to show can put a twist on anything. They were very even after Winx too.

Was looking at the SANFL ladder the other day and Adelaide Crow's reserves on top. Port on the edge of the five.

The more players Subiaco lose in a mid season draft the better admire what they have done but suspect as soon as they drop off the crowds will improve 20%.
Great to see East Freo already coming good sooner than expected just need Swans to win a few more.

We all admire what $ubiaco has done, but it's been on the back of an unfair playing field.

Going for an all up win bet this round...
West Coast go in as slight underdogs against the Sharks, they have to win eventually!

Taking $1.93 West Coast Eagles into $1.27 the enigmatic Tigers = $2.45.
If they can't beat the Sharks ( although as we know all Sharks love the wet ) they'll move into the Peel Thunder don't bet area.
  • goosegoose    1,628 posts
Agree on West Coast they have 20 afl listed players named which is a record plus Petrie so should be winning really hoping Perth can beat Peel to keep their finals hopes alive but they have lost a couple through injury.
Cant see Souths beating Subiaco without Higgins if they do are a genuine premiership chance.
Swans also overdue to win one at home but cant run out a game.

1 win from our last 11 games at Basso!

Eagles leading 5.9 to East Fremantle 0.0

Good work price assesors having an ordinary team like the Sharks favourite against a team with 20 afl listed players and boomed by the Natanui return.

East Perth's 84 reserves team could've tested East Freo.
    $1.93 about a team that should've been $1.02 you don't see everyday.

Although knowing me I've probably gone the early crow!

We are deadset putrid and have now lost 11 of our last 12 at what was once a feared home ground.
Major changes needed at this football club asap!

East Fremantle, East Perth and Swans 8th, 9th, 10th.

Most years attending the WAFL before 87 - ( Eagles debut season ) at least one of those clubs always made the four, often two and sometimes all three.

Peel Thunder and West Coast both still outside the the top five, will be interesting to see if one of them sneaks into the finals.

Still got a hunch about Claremont winning the Premiership. Bolton the key. Best player in the comp for mine.

Subi & West Coast the two in form teams. Not that $ubiaco is ever out of form.
    Tigers lurking.
    Bulldogs shaky.
West Perth big chance for the finals.
    Perth hmmmmmm. Perhaps not.
    The rest thanks for coming.

I wouldnt leave Peelmantle out of calculations for the Finals either Riders....Perth are starting to look shaky after the "Hawaii-Five O" start!

The Cardies thought were very good against the Lions, Strijk, Black and Nelson - three veterans who continue to show the way.

Looks Subi, South, Claremont...then 4th and 5th between West Coast - Peel - Perth - West Perth.

Don't mind 3 roughies at the respective lines this week.

VK's Black Ducks at the +12.5 against the Sharks.
Perth Redlegs at the +15.5 against the Bullies.
Claremont Tigers at the +28.5 against the Lions.

Hahaha yes I've backed the Black Ducks twice this season, that'll be my first and last...did the old Meatloaf on the three tips above...2 outta 3 ain't bad.

Was quite confident of the Demons bouncing back on a fine day at Lathlain Park...the line of +15.5 points proved overs with them not only smashing the line but winning the game too. Will be surprised if the Bulldogs win the flag.

Tigers backed at the + 28.5 and at one stage looked like they were going to be battling to stay under 5 goals when $ubi got 28 points in front but to the Tigers credit closed the final margin to 9 points - don't write the Tigers off for the GF!

The Cardies and The Eagles what a shellacking. Bookmakers had West Perth the slightest of favourite's. Against a team of that talent. Goodness gracious.
Noticed game was played at Lathlain Park too.

The Black Ducks was always going to be a struggle for us to beat the line on that bet when VK's mob could only kick 3.10!!!

The Lions v Tigers game and closing it fast to just 9 points has to give Claremont hope. At 5 goals the difference they were looking right down the barrel of a decent sized defeat, to finish off like they did, promising signs come September.

In summary Lions v Tigers GF.
    West Coast - dark horses.
    Then South.
    100/1 the rest.
Hope am wrong about South but would be laying them at this stage.

A Subi v West Coast GF - don't write it off.
West Coast winning it...don't write that off either!

How did bookies have the Sharks slight favourite to beat West Coast a few weeks ago ?!! One of the biggest mysteries seen in sports betting ever.

Just the two games this round.

Not confident but will go the all up....looks a reasonably strong Peel Thunder line up, if they can't beat the Sharks....you'd never back 'em again, but they can drop these type of games too, will stick with them and go...
    Peel Thunder to win @$1.58
    Into
East Perth with the +22.5 points head start @$1.88.

    $1.58 x $1.88 = $2.97.

Made an error on those odds - Peel Thunder are $1.68.
    $1.68 x $1.88 = $3.15

You don't see this too often - Peel on Tabtouch are $1.68 favourites but on Bet365 the Sharks are fave's at $1.85 and Peel $1.95!!

If you back the Sharks on WA Tab and Peel on Bet365 - don't win much but you can't lose!

Peel Thunder never stopped drifting - last time looked had blown to $1.84 on Tabtouch out from $1.68.
    Bet365 had them a remarkable $1.95.
Always seemed to be in control although Sharks closed the margin down a few times.

Well done Royals - went down by 6 points but that covered the 22.5 head start line.

Happy days on the all up to pay for a few losing horse bets!

It is hard betting on Peelmantle & WCE Reserves teams mate as they can drop all of their emergencies back plus a few others not originally named in the WAFL side announced on the Thursday night.
All the real WAFL teams would get fined if they played players outside of those who are not in the 25 named on a Thursday night but not Freo & WCE Reserves!

For sure VK...that was a strange one...I thought $1.68 Peel was ok, then shocked on Saturday arvo when saw $1.95 on Bet365 and Sharks fave at $1.85.

Tabtouch last time looked had Peel drifting to $1.84.

Sharks showed some fight, both games were up for grabs.
