Been following the game awhile and don't think seen as much team driving in pacing as see now. The prolific domination of stablemates in races - what do they expect ?

If training four or five horses in a race why not exploit it ? Anybody who doesn't believe team driving go's on surely they jest.

Nothing to crow about punting this weekend - apart from getting a few crumbs back

However i did back 2 horses for the place - both were in 7 horse fields ( paying 1 and 2 only ) both of them on TAB.Com opened $21 the win and $7 the place - and both were heavily supported - halving their price

$15 a place the last at Hobart - Frid night - Blame it On ME in the 2 year old and  $25 the place Kid Montana in the last at Tamworth today

I thought the thing in Tassie could win - because it was an eye catcher the start before at Launceston

And of course if your on for the place - they both win - and if you wanted your house on a horse at the top of the straight - you wanted your house on these 2

Thoughts on the juvenile trot series at Pinjarra, good idea? Bad idea? Why? Why not?

What do have a thought on is Pinjarra Race 4 Trifecta dividend - shocking!! Some very smart punters must have enjoyed the spoils of that dividend. Or one big punter getting several times.

Just back to team driving - New Zealand - what a joke. The team driving that goes on across the ditch :-\" oh well powerful stable(s) - lots of stablemates - it's to be expected and dare say accepted.

In the trotters race for the juvenile's, field of seven and four of them galloped either wildly at the start or in the run, but that's not bad, have seen fields of six and seven for the baby trotters in Victoria and SA whereby the whole field has galloped!

Enjoy watching them but betting on them - no possible way.

As a quaddie punter, I hate they have them in the legs. EQ was the first trot race, and the main quaddie finishes with a trot race. Shame they couldn't have finished main one with the stand!

Must admit whilst four of them galloped - the winner Papa Razzi - he looked like has been trotting since the day he was born - some of them take to it like a fish to water.

The fourth place getter Betty Bootz Off looks like she has good ability - but beats me why punter's would take $1.70 about her winning when you should be getting $4.50 about her just trotting!
  • ToepuntitToepuntit    241 posts
Yeah add to that the winner is pacing bred
  • JayJayJayJay    7,630 posts
And a well bred pacing family at that .....there are literally dozens and dozens of well performed pacing offspring and you have to go back 7 generations to find any trotters and then there is a side branch that throws trotters via Rona's Pride .But only when bred to Game Pride , a trotting sire. Papa Razzi's sire Follow The Stars is by Art Major and of his 921 winners of over $55 million in stakes, there are only 5 trotters. The odds of Papa Razzi being of the trotting gait are so immeasurably small as to defy logic....but not genetics.

Noticed the third place getter Peachey is by Red Samurai think he might have been a reasonable Victorian trotter ? I'm connecting the Dove family over there having Red Samurai possibly ?

Spot on Riders Red Samurai was a smart horse but I think Clinton Welsh trained and drove it.

    Cheers cisco

Of course Cisco - yes and he was a good driver of the trotters Clinton Welsh.
Could get them into the money at a price - and one of those rare types - an excellent standing start reinsman.

The Conroy's another in Victoria - they may not have the best horse's but their specialists!

Kudos to Bob Mellsop with Paparazzi. Probably with anyone else but an ex kiwi that loves a trotter he would have the hopples on by now but Bob must have thought "gee this wee fulla trots ok" and gone down that road. Well done.
Also a great recommendation for Follow The Stars.....his young horses show very good manners.
I think the last decent dual gaited sire in Australia was Safely Kept ...not a bad stallion to aspire to .

Only not in hopples because they couldn’t get it to pace, from what I’ve heard.

Dual gaited sires are pretty rare...Great Evander and Crocket have genuine claims and probably Armbro Del to a lesser extent. Sokys Atom threw some decent trotters as did Elsu (a surprisingly high number)...even Bettors Delight but then again, amongst all his thousands of winners, there had to be the odd one that trotted.

    Their was a bit happening!
Am going to give one out from that race that wasn't involved in the going's on but this horse will be winning at big odd's soon ...keep it quiet...Funky Ole Medina...next good draw in an average field, double figures...and to quote that song of a similar name...hammer time!

Only looks a little horse, but there's a win in the pipeline. Has bobbed up previously and think can again.

Mat Young well done with poets prince,it was my knockout horse in w.a. today purely based on how he flys on the dirt with his wins at leonara and Laverton and a good thing beat at his other start on the dirt..thought he would handle the broome surface.first up.

Think in recent times, might have been the Carnarvon Cup winner he tipped on top at about 25/1.
Recall because was up at the Tab and saw his tips and threw it in to exactas and quinellas! Only doing his job though haha.

Brittany Graham doing the on track interviews at Menangle last night - she's the consummate professional - best at doing it by a mile.

Trent Cooper also very good and Matt Young. A couple of others far too many in house jokes and done in a flippant way. Forget the comedy skits and do it properly ala Brittany Graham.

Looking at GP Tuesday night - re the form - only 1 horse im interested in backing  E/W - and thats Lucky Sensation in the 1st

Last start - 1st up for the new stable - 3rd in 1.56.8 - 57.5 it hit the line well - terriffic run -  looks to have very good gate speed to - nearly led from 4 - i hope he has a crack for the lead from 8 - dont even mind if he breezes

Favourite Diamond Dove $1.65 - its honest but its way under the odds

The only risk with LS - is its form previous prep - with previous trainer wasnt flash- however if  it runs up to its 1st up run i think it is going to be awfully hard to beat

$13 and $2.60 with TAB.Com - now into $11 and $2 - and my bet wouldnt have affected it - so there is early money around for the horse

Does pull like a train, so I don't think he has much option other than to go forward. Lewis chose DD to drive over LS, but he might have to take the sit.

Richie not missing Troy Lewis for his aggressive drives on long shots tonight.

Chris Lewis drive in the last - not a cracker for it - blows out to 33/1 in a field of seven - cruises to the front from gate six effortlessly and never ever going to lose. Remarkable how the rank outsider with him driving can do it that easily.

Some of the well supported runners ( weak field ) - in a word - diabolical.

It had two previous starts....beaten 41m 6th at GP midweek and a month later 22.9m 9th at Pinjarra going about 2.5, not  a lot to recommend it other than its breeding and trainer driver combo.  Some of the other runners had some form, 33/1 was about right, wasn't it?

Four of the other six had one placing between them from previous twenty starts.

The interesting thing Lewis drove it home for second in a Bunbury trial, then first two race starts - driven by Alby Beckett both occasions - Lewis back in the sulky tonight - begins like a shot out of a gun and wins like a 6/4 chance.

Impressed with Rousey - what a one paced grinder, out toughed them tonight. Don't mind that horse at all.

Showed good gate speed for Alby also

An earlier race tonight - now don't get me wrong - overall much prefer races to be run this way - it does inject excitement into a race.

However - Luke Edwards and Kim Prentice - if you're driving an ordinary horse - and you go breakneck speed with each other early - what is going to be left in the tank as you swing for home later in the race ?
Fuel tank reading empty well and truly before then.

After the early speed battle both were basically gone - finishing positions - second last and last.

Race 2 Echuca trots Victoria - race had to be rerun after a fall - lo and behold they run the race again and another bad fall, race abandoned.

    Never seen that before.

Back to GP tonight - drive of the night - this horse had one chance - and one chance only - it can't do a tap of work - gate three - must get to the pegs and fast - nope no chance - hold your horses - who's driving ?
Shannon Suvaljko - Machrie yep it's a hope!

Got it behind the leader from the three and carried him home for third at good odds. One of the best drivers have seen early on in a race - be it a stand or a mobile.

A good example of a very average horse driven well and to its capabilities, unlike a few other drives tonight 8-| it's all right to be aggressive if behind Lincoln Storm, Gammalite, The Falcon Strike, Pure Steel and Rousey!

Give your horse every chance and the rest looks after itself - just look at Machrie.
