Harness WA Online Magazine

Harness & Greyhounds
Good to see the revival of "Harness WA" in the publications section of the RWWA website:

The guru, Alan Parker, has been lured out of semi retirement and has written a raft of articles on the likes of the late Fred Godecke (Snr Snr), Colin Brown, Harry Capararo, the rise of women drivers and the Double Expresso story etc which makes for a good read. The magazine was previously issued to all Industry participants but since reverting to an "electronic" only production, it's appearance has been a bit haphazard but hopefully now back to it,s regular bi monthly production. Many may not be aware of it's existence.

The adjacent barrier draw "anomalies" continue ...3 more examples at Bunbury on Friday night for stables DeCampo, Scott and Johnson. Perhaps a "tech" expert may utilise the magazine to explain the probability of this continual occurrence and what an audit of the computer program that is used to conduct barrier draws actually entails and how often the audit occurs.

Our stable too on Monday with our 4 girls; 1, 2, 10, 11. Not complaining about drawing 1 and 2 though ????

The adjacent barrier draw "all within the realm of probability, provided we rewrite the laws" anomalies keep coming.
4 at Bunbury tonight....B.Howlett and H.Reeves (both in the same race 2), H.Reeves in race 3 and G.Johnson in race 5, then Pinjarra on Monday has A.DeCampo race 2 and P.Tilbrook race 9 and finally Northam on Tuesday gives P.Anderson gate 3,4 and 5 in race 1, L.Inwood in race 3, J.Moore in race 7 and L.Inwood again in race 9.

Let's have a closer look at just Pinjarra. Race 3 Cornwall with two in the race but not adjacent. Same goes for Race 6 with Garry Johnson, Race 7 Kevin Charles. How about Race 8? Nigel Johns and Bob Mellsop with more than half the field but none along side each other. Race 9 G & S Bond, Giles Inwood & K Hawkins with half the field, same deal. But hey, narrow minds.

A close look at Race 9 reveals it is a Standing Start.....Inwood's horses are hardly likely to draw adjacent barriers when one is off the front and the other off 20m, same with Hawkins with one off the front and the other off 30m. Furthermore, Race 7 is a Preferential Barrier draw......so by all means argue that there is nothing wrong and everything is kosha but argue honestly......narrow minds indeed!

Psychic?... paranoid?.... peddler of conspiracy theories?? Probably all three plus a few other undiagnosed mental conditions. Old narrow mind here, with his last posting because sadly, a loud knock on the door this afternoon and a bunch of white coated types carted me off for further assessment. Why is this so? Well, I made a public prediction down at the TAB yesterday arvo, rather too loudly it seems, that my horse and it's stablemate would draw adjacent barriers in the Higgins Final Friday night and that there would be at least 4 other instances of ABS (Adjacent Barrier Syndrome) spread across the program.  Furthermore, given gate speed was the primary winning characteristic in his skill set, it would be a back line alley for him. Alas, it has come to pass.....retained indefinitely for further testing and medication. Will have company in the form of Mr Reed, Ms Lewis, Mr Hall, Mr Johns and Mr Scott.

Luckily they’re only adjacent numbers and not barriers. Only 3 races that have trainers with adjacent barriers. Those whom aren’t adjacent outweigh those that are yet again.

The mathematical probability of a trainer drawing adjacent barriers (in a Random Barrier Draw) in a 12 horse field where the  trainer has 2 horses engaged is 1 in 6. Verified by 3 graduate Mathematicians, one of whom is the former Chief Examiner of Mathematics in the TEE. If there are less than 12 acceptors or there are two trainers with two horses engaged (or a single trainer with 3 horses engaged etc), then the probability of adjacent barriers rises accordingly.

For Friday at GP and Saturday at Northam, there are 10 RBD races and the breakdown is as follows. The races in which a trainer has 2 horses engaged are marked by an asterix *. Where there are only trainers with a single runner, the race is marked N/A (not applicable):

GP Race 3*: 11 acceptors  Bond   Barrier 6 and 7
GP Race 5. N/A - no trainer with 2 runners
GP Race 6. N/A - no trainer with 2 runners
GP Race 7. N/A - no trainer with 2 runners
GP Race 10*: 9 acceptors  Olivieri Barrier 6,7 and 8

Northam Race 1*: 8 acceptors  Simmonds Barrier 6 and 7
Northam Race 4*: 8 acceptors  Anderson   Barrier 6 and 7
Northam Race 5*:10 acceptors Reeves Barrier 4 and 7 but horse 7 ODM, therefore N/A
Northam Race 6*: 8 acceptors  Johnson Barrier 2 and 3
Northam Race 8*: 9 acceptors Johnson barrier 2 and 9 and Reeves Barrier 6 and 8

Summary: Of the 6 races where a trainer has 2 horses engaged and in which there is the possibility of adjacent barriers being drawn, it has occurred in 5 of the 6 races. It is a small sample and none of the races has 12 acceptors but this extraordinarily high occurrence of adjacent barriers being drawn is well above the mathematical probability of such an event occurring.
