Yes, the review was wasted BUT shouldn't have needed a review for that last LBW as it was PLUMB

Both sides had a go at choking. England were cruising before an ordinary delivery produced the breakthrough. Then an inexplicable runout with 1.5 days to chase 100 odd runs. Even at the death it was almost like South Africa and Lance Klusener/Alan Donald all over again with the muffed runout chance by Lyon. The LBW should have been out but the wasted review was the act of a desperate captain whose team had all but conceded from an unloseable position. Stokes was slogging out there, playing paddle shots and reverse sweeps.

it was **** up after **** up... but boy was it exciting to watch.
the lyon missed run out was like watching my under 10's team going for a run out... they ALWAYS get too excited and spend the ball before its got there...
Not a fan of Tim Paine and I agree, he cracked under the first sign of pressure... (and cant bat).
Stokes was unbelievable... you could see the point where he switched from "test" mode to "T20" mode.

We f'd up many chances to win it, but that's penalty enough in their own right - doesn't mean you further forego you're rightful win at the end of the day - the non decision on a PLUMB LBW was a howler !

Maybe a bit of karma coming to bit Langer on the ****. Remember his infamous creaky bat handle in the miracle run chase where Gilchrist(149* v Pakistan '99/'00) played an eerily similar innings to Ben Stokes?

Ripping contest to watch, Stokes hung tough early and then played it beautifully. Got lucky but deserved it

Fox trolling surely? I'm not a fan of Smith as captain and never have been. The policy of picking your best batsman(Ponting lost the Ashes, not once, but twice in England) and expecting them to be a master tactician by default is a fallacy. However, if they are intent on reinstating him, he must wait his time or the bans mean nothing. Australia had that game and Lyon is just as much to blame as Paine for what happened at the end.

I cant really see why you'd bring in Starc AND Marsh.. thats a massive change to the team who "should have" beaten England comprehensively in the last test. Is it really a team that needs wholesale changes?
Smith back in... if you bring in Labuschagne for an out of form batsman... then Marsh AND Starc... thats a different team altogether.

If marsh comes in we are done for. May as well all come home and forfeit

    It's your time Usman.

    Certainly is.

They won’t drop Labuschagne when Smith returns for the next test. So if Khawaja doesn’t peform here, he will be the one to go.

I cant believe Wade has kept his spot with he batting at 6 and Paine at 7 that must be the longest tail in cricket history.

Not at all, because it improves again at 8 :)

Early rain hitting Manchester, punters have put the umbrellas up and scrambling to get on the draw. It's firming in from over $4.

    England $2.50
    Australia $2.62
    Draw $3.60

the way these tests have been played... none have needed the full 5 days... so I'd still be going for the result.

Just hope Marcus Harris has a bit more luck this time, if it's starting to come down.

See Jimmy Anderson might have played his final test match against Australia. He will be in his 40th year next time around.

He finished with 104 wickets against Australia from 32 tests at an average of 34.56.

Thought his figures would be better than that, but did play in two or three series where they got rolled big time.
When England did win/retain the Ashes he was dynamic.
