    Kramer will be happy, smith finally failed 8-}

He wanted the ton. Wasn't too happy about sacrificing his wicket :!!

**For the record-I want an even contest between bat and ball. We got it last match and it was an all-time epic. Too many concessions have been made to batsmen and the bans metered out to Smith, Warner & Bancroft(the actions of desperate men)only underline this...

Score book says 211... end of story

I have an issue with the umpires checking on a hunch, that's all. You have to satisfy all the checks and balances to get a wicket these days.

So how close to the batsman are the bowlers allowed to deliver the ball before it’s not nit picking ?

Well for starters, the rule, much like the one for throwing, was never meant to stop spin bowlers encroaching on the crease. The faster a delivery is bowled, the more it cuts down on the reaction time of the batsman and you literally have to draw a line somewhere. Having said that, the bowler's front front only needs to be partially behind the crease at some point of the delivery-it is still permitted to slide forward of the crease.

Fair play to Smith-but he was bailed out by a no-ball which is **** but that's another topic altogether. Was watching the score but didn't see the actual game so can't comment on the short stuff. I certainly wouldn't be deleting the chin music from the Poms' iphone playlist tho.

    :-??
bailed out on by no ball... please, he was 118 when that happened.
He played a false shot and was bailed out-without the video review he was a goner. The irony, huh? Calling batsmen back to check this sort of thing is nit picking and a topic for another day, as I mentioned in my previous post. Leach gained no advantage by overstepping the mark. 118 is a helluva score but 211 is other wordly and goes a long way to putting the game out of England's reach. If he'd been dropped on 118 off a legal delivery, you'd be saying whoever grassed it had dropped the Ashes.
Got dropped on 60 by Archer....Irony huh?

Good luck with the short stuff though.

I didn't see that. So he had two false strokes which could have led to his dismissal? I know England would be a much better chance it they were chasing 93 fewer runs-possibly more-than they are now.

Cant convince myself to watch it...but why cant we finish them off...for a second time. Don't think, we can lose this one, but starting to think that we also cant win it!!!! 30 overs left and 4 wickets to get..

Lets see if that is the kiss of death the poms needed..haha

Fair dinkum do these cricket blokes ever learn.
Maybe if you at least try and hit the stumps or make the batsman play you might get a wicket ffs!!!

Paine should have bowled Labuschagne's Leggies way earlier with all those foot marks.

After that failure with the bat is there a chance that la champagne will be dropped for Bancroft??? hahaha.

Agree Jum, with a leggy you generally cant wait until you are out of time..They normally need a few overs to get the batsmen set up...

Or some of Mike Atherton's sawdust in the pocket or the Soap Dodgers lollies on the ball from 2005 would also have sufficed!  :-*

Looks a definite result wicket coming up for the final test and good weather! The draw already out to $6 with Australia $2.05 and England $2.50.

Up until the last decade the draw wasn't a bad bet in cricket, am sure many would remember those tame boring draws on pitches tailor made for batting.

Who can forget Mark Taylor & Geoff Marsh opening the batting against England and effortlessly batting the whole day!

The openers both teams in this series and others tests around the world as well, lucky to survive whilst the number three batter is padding up.

Better bowlers now ? Better green top wickets ? One day and 20/20 proliferation and openers can't adjust eg. Finch & Roy ? Warner also now can't take a trick.
Can all change and Warner and Roy may come good, and not just them opening batsman in this series and a few around the world have taken a pounding lately.

Test Cricket needs results - and bowler friendly wickets ( pace and spin ) are sure helping.

VK you'd recall Graeme Wood opening and batting the whole day in a Boxing Day test match. West Indians Grenidge and Haynes did it at least once or twice, think Mike Atherton opened and lasted a day and a half or something in the second innings to save a game.

You'd be a brave person betting on a 50 run opening partnership - either team - this upcoming game.

Certainly agree (more) bowler friendly is the way to go.
This (English) summer has been the most entertaining cricket in recent memory.
ODI cricket was revitalized during the WC, and now Tests done in 4 days (plus time lost for rain), but still enough in it for the bats that the cream rises to the top (eg Smith, and that Kiwi bloke).

Talk around that Warner will be named again so he gets a chance to redeem himself in the final test

Ashes won but this is a 2-1 series - huge diff between 3-1 and 2-2, Australia win or draw and even at 2-1 that's a big win...but England they've got to go for the win and 2-2, going down 2-1 is not an option, they have to go for broke, even if increases the chances of going down 3-1.

A 2-2 series is a drawn series ( Ashes or no Ashes ) there's heaps to play for..both teams.

$6 a draw seems remarkably high odds - but think bookies may have it correct - the draw without rain is becoming obsolete.

Remember an amazing Test Match between England and the West Indies in England...it was the final day on a wearing fifth day wicket. West Indies needed from memory around 300+, the England team was buoyant, the tabloids and radio more so - finally this almighty West Indian team was under pressure.

The West Indies made those runs - no wickets down - unbelievably openers Greenidge & Haynes both posted big not out centuries. You wouldn't have credited it.

These days if an opener makes it through the first hour he's done well, to lunch he's done extremely well.

Bancroft has faced more deliveries in the series than warner and hasn't played the last 2. At least he offered some protection to the middle order.

    Tabtouch player performance:
    David Warner 74.5
1 point per run 10 points per catch
Take your pick over or under $1.88

Needs to score say just 50 runs in the game a lousy 25 each innings and take 3 catches...that's 80 points - it's a doddle :-S

For a bloke of his class 74.5 is not a lot when includes 10 points for a catch...just one score of 50 he should be home easily....but with three ducks in a row, makes one think about this bet.

Tabtouch betting $251 about a Tied Test Match.

Ok get the pencil out to do the sums - since 1877 there's been over 2000 games of Test Match Cricket and total number of Ties - 2.

Good luck if taking the 250/1 - both ties did involve Australia though. That third test wasn't far off a tie, but still 250/1 is a bit skinny.

I think the Test match you are referring to was the 2nd Test at Lord's in 1984, where West Indies chased down 344 on the final day to win. Gordon Greenidge made 214* and Larry Gomes 92*, with the West Indies winning by nine wickets.

Yes that was the one, thought their could've been a Test where they passed England 0 down for a big total, but 344 that's very familiar for the chase and 1/344 sounds spot on .

Lords too and the final day - England nearly had it won, or would go very close, and it was the ease the Windies did it with was a shock. It was a bit of a story leading into the final day because finally the West Indies looked vulnerable.

Out of interest, the highest successful run chase in a Test without losing a wicket was in the last Ashes series played in Australia, Bancroft and Warner scoring 173 (chasing 170) at the 'Gabba in 2017.

Few blokes on here with a love affair with C.Bancroft. Seriously out of the blokes 4 innings faced a average of 6.75 overs . Out of that 6.75 overs how many were left . And don't come back saying he has done better than Warner blah blah  because he has been crap as well , I am not making a case for Warner . I am pointing out that 6.75 overs faced is not what you would say is inspiring so stop blowing wind out of Bancrofts ar..
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Not at all a love affair.
Just think he was unfairly singled out / was going better than Warner at the time - if anything maybe some distain for Warner..
  • Bancroft is shit

bancroft, Khawaja, head, warner and wade have all had ample opportunity to get runs. they have to drop someone and try something different... they've done that.
Khawaja, bancroft and head have all been dropped.
warner very lucky.. wade a little lucky too.. .but you cant drop them all. (you could easily add paine to that list)
