Just when think seen everything in the racing game, you're not even close, a WA horse winning a Group One Makybe Diva at 100/1 backed up by another former Sandgroper winning a Group One Underwood at 100/1.

Noticed 1st, 3rd, 4th home in the Underwood all 9 years old. When start getting up over a bit of ground, a very even lot in Australia, and the older types right in the mix.

Bookmakers bonanza some of these events, where the holds would be great and the payouts few and far between. 10,000/1 the double.

...and the massive upsets, the 33/1 and upwards results in Group racing in Victoria in the previous ten years are amazing, and much more prevalent than in NSW.

From Tears I Cry winning an Emirates at over 100/1, Prince Of Penzance likewise in the Cup, can't think of the name but Michael Walker recently won a Group three year old race on a 66/1 chance, and Boom Time think could get 50/1 about in the Caulfied Cup.

There just the ones of the top of the scon but there's been several more, hey Boom Time he was ex WA too.

Can't forget ever the mounting yard mail on the live coverage when Tears I Cry won at better than 100/1 on the last day of the Flemington Spring Carnival - "really shouldn't be in the field". Do'h!

Bart Cummings has trained a few at big odds by his standards, Viewed at 20/1 in the CC as has David Hayes, Tawqeet in the Caulfield Cup aswell nearly 10 years ago (my biggest collect in a G1)

and Wonderful World for Bart and Luke Nolan in the lead up race to the Guineas was a at decent price too but nothing like the ones you've mentioned riders

Just trying to think of others, but going deep back in time, maybe 30 odd years ago Abaridy won the Caulfied Guineas at a cool 250/1.

The day Tears I Cry won the quaddie paid over a million. Dandy Andy he was 125/1 when defeating Bonecrusher in an Australian Cup...yes Melbourne can throw the upset!

Taufans Melody Caulfied Cup about 50/1, when survived the protests.

...one more and the only one got a collect out of - had about 8% of the Viewed ( 50/1 ) Melbourne Cup trifecta - and needed that photo!
Think it was Viewed, Bauer, C'este La Guere from memory and Master O'Reilly fourth.

But Viewed yep he's another boilover result in Victoria.

that year Bauer not winning the melb cup cost me a huge double Geelong Cup / Melb Cup, even with the deductions the Tab took out at the time when you had a fixed odds double with the same horse in both legs of feature races they some how thought it was ok to penalise you on a winning combo I was still up for a few grand of a $10 bet

    Another one...

2016 Oaks at Flemington - Lasqueti Spirit she was about 100/1. Not seen too often since, often dropping out along way from home a few times...but she's got the Oaks in the history books and the prize money!

I backed her this day. Only because of the jockey booking. Probably one of the best races ive seen

It was Mighty Boss who won the 2017 Caulfied Guineas for Mick Price and Michael Walker, second roughest horse in the big field, official flucs, 60/1, 80/1, 100/1.

Finished with the record of two wins ( 1200, 1600 ) and one placing from seventeen starts. The Caulfield Guineas victory took prize money earnt to 1.2 million, after that win, raced several more times and did very little.

    Unfortunately since passed away.

His final run was tenth in a field of ten at double figure odds in Adelaide, also ran in the Caulfield Cup won by Best Solution finishing 17th in a field of 18 at 100/1.

The Caulfied Guineas is his for eternity.

Victorian racing over the last ten years has thrown up upsets like none other, some pro favoured runner punters would've taken a pounding on these types of events.

With winners like Gatting, Mighty Boss, Lasqueti Spirit, Black Heart Bart, Prince Of Penzance all 100/1 and better, Boom Time 50/1, plus several at 33/1 and better, many a Victorian punter has been left shaken...and stirred!

As far as how do bookmakers, Tab fixed odds and Corporate's fare on these types of events and their bottom line.

Was reported when Prince Of Penzance won the Cup that one rails bookmaker at Flemington began counting the money in the evening and by 5 a.m the next morning was still counting.

In an era of punters having more access to everything - the upset boilover is alive and well.

Harlem won a g1 at $80/1 or greater i think

Was going to say look think there's a David Hayes horse who won a Group One at cricket score odds in recent time, and yes of course Harlem..only around the 80/1 mark this time...and have a hunch same jockey as Gatting - Jamie Kah.

Group One Australia Cup. Another one, right on the day and disappointed often since.

These odds only approximate too, there SP but in many cases better than 66/1, 80/1, and 100/1 has been available up to 150/1 for instance was available Prince Of Penzance.

Think Harlem was more like 33/1 but am sure 50/1 was bet and paid massive on tote.

Form of Harlem in four runs since he caused the bolilover, last - last - last - sixth. Three consecutive last placings after winning a Group One - must be a record.

Speed maps, sectionals, computer ratings etc, sometimes the old saying of throw the form guide out the window applies more than ever.

...and hold your horses, Harlem has won two Australia Cups at about 100/1 and the other at 33/1... his form between the wins...ordinary at best..unplaced every run in between and every run since!

If you ever look one horse's form up...look up Harlem! More unplaced runs than an Albany maiden horse and punctuated by two Group One victories.

Gee I'm sick of seeing these salty eastern states punters going on about the big prices winners and the state of WFA racing. Wayne Hawkes and absolute shit comment re Lindsay Smith today, basically accusing him of foul play with respect the the "magical " warnabool sand dunes. It's pathetic

    Wayne Hawkes is a peanut.

He’s 100% correct about the state of WFA racing though, take Winx out and it’s been poor in comparison to the previous decade

He made a similar off colour comment about gatting too. Complete farkstick of a bloke. Thinks he is funny but he is about as funny as cancer

Been following them since about the time WA horse Meliador was too good for Melbourne Cup winner Arwon three times in a row including the Perth Cup, admittedly on Meliadors dung hill.

What have taken note of over the years is that the good WA horses match Eastern state's pound for pound, and even more so our trainers and jockeys just as good.

Considering the different size in population and available horse WA has a record overall that is nothing short of remarkable, I've overrated the Eastern staters many a time.

Heron Bridge, Coal Pak, Placid Arc all put them to the sword. There's that many you lose count. Plastered what a good three year old and stayer he was. About the only bugger that let us down was Ranger haha.

Even though he didn't win, how about the run of and unsure of spelling... Kia Oro Koutoo in the Victoria Derby, was a massive run, should've been runner up from memory, but it measured right up and the eastern states media were very doubtful about him running well.

    It's us against them haha.

Should have won. Was on at $61 and $11. Not one of Joeys best that day but the place odds we're good in the end as started second favorite from memory. You know they are good when Adam takes one himself

Malibu Style from here, got sick of seeing that win and placed at odds and never backing. Think won Sandown Cup day at a good price too.

Playing God, honest horse, was far from disgraced in Melbourne, ran some good ones against the best.

But don't mention Ripper Rio! Saw him run again just 3 or 4 months ago, it was a struggle.

Another mate of mine Profit Street went to Melbourne and ran very well in good fields.
