That's true too Curmudgeon...33/1, 50/1, 100/1 chances Suvaljko would be driving and I'd throw in for third and fourth at a place like Kellerberin or Collie, he'd always give them every hope, sometimes the buggers at cricket score odds would run top 2.

One horse he drove in recent times at Kellerberrin, kid you not - Bet365 had it 200/1 haha went to the pegs and drove a treat to run about 5th.

Can't wait for Bussleton already, hopefully the three of them should be there.

Probably only see Callan at busso, the other 2 get too many drives Friday nights at GP

There was another one he drove about 9 - 12 months ago at GP that also think had an official SP of 200/1...can't think of its name...Mark Reed and Colin Brown might have run the quinella, had a trifecta on and hadn't realised had every horse in the field for third bar it, well knew the horse fairly well and it's around 200/1, it's got no chance of third or fourth...then a glance to see who was driving it...my goodness, no time to fill out a trifecta ticket but quickly put $10 a place on him just in case....sure enough into third he comes, on the back of such a good drive, swear at the time thought he must have cut across the track.

The trifecta and first four massive of course.
  • Ridersonthestorm33Ridersonthestorm33    10,809 posts
That first four dividend tonight of just over 41k, would have to be nearly a record for a Tuesday night. Haven't looked at pool size but guessing just 50 cents approx on the payout. Was a 4k jackpot from race before.

Which leads to the next thing...any time there is a jackpot component going onto the next race whether it be first four, trifecta, double or even a humble $200 exacta carryover - now surely somebody from Tabcorp must have noticed that the pool on the following race with the jackpot component goes up massively!

Carryovers work wonders for pools, so why don't they do more guaranteed pool sizes?!! Say ok we guarantee 1k in the exacta pool - it's not a carryover or jackpot but if punters see 1k guaranteed or 8k guaranteed for trifecta or whatever - they start investing!

Don't worry Tabcorp - if done correctly you won't have to put a cent in, ( or very rarely ) it's not building a space ship - just commonsense.

I've seen quinella jackpots on rubbish events at night of $73 and that grow to the next race and be over 1k in the pool, trifecta carryovers of $158 hit 2 and 3k.

Jackpots work. Guaranteed pool sizes - work.

Except for the time the Tab here guaranteed a certain amount for favourite numbers many years ago and it didn't get close and they had to foot the "bill". Apparently went down like a lead balloon on that occasion.

Guaranteed pool sizes are like fishing - put just enough bait on the line to hook the punters in.

Decrease take out rates, get rid of rounding down and have guaranteed pool sizes, the tote would be going through the roof!

Or stay in the dark ages and let the corporate's take charge, whilst Tabcorp dabbles around with the new bet type of odds/even/split - maestros for thinking that one up. Although actually don't mind it haha. Takeout rate of just 6 or 7% - at least kudos for that.

The reason takeout has to be so small on that bet type is because there are only three possible results and a steeper takeout rate when there's less probabilities ( just like a three horse race ) means dividends are deplorable.

Hopefully another Captain Proud/Corey Peterson combo, they were a highlight last round, as were Suvaljko inc.

A trainer in the red and white colours, they battle away ok. Not bad away from the tapes either.

Budd Sidewinder & Our Bobby Dazler am sure they were there last season, they've hardly had a week off since, would imagine they'll be back. Get those two mixed up all the time, and they've clocked up some runs, not that old either just 6 & 7.

One of them think won the last Busselton Cup, damned if know which though. Leaning Budd Sidewinder. Both on the whole safe beginners.
  • JayJayJayJay    7,629 posts
No, Rum Delight won the Busso Cup Riders, Bobbydazzler was 3rd in the re-run after the pile up in the first turn which took out Budd Sidewinder and one of the Hawks, Trilogy or Daniel John?

Of course Rum Delight, and yes Danieljohn was the one involved in the early pile up. Very even bunch, which is another good thing about Busselton, and the handicaps from the stand make it interesting too.

    Step in the right direction:

WA’s premier races for 2YO’s, the WestBred Classics, will be increased to $225,000 in the 2022/23 racing season.

RWWA made this announcement today to coincide with the start of the breeding season. Any WestBred colt, gelding or filly born in the 2020/21 season will be eligible to contest the $225,000 races.

WA’s WestBred Bonus Scheme supports and rewards the breeders and owners of Western Australian bred horses. A WestBred eligible horse is a horse foaled, notified, registered and branded in Western Australia.

For eligible horses a WestBred Owner and Breeder bonus is payable on any 2 or 3 year old race where the total advertised stake is less than $20,000 and where the horse is placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th.

A WestBred eligible horse sired by a stallion residing and standing in WA at the time of service will be eligible for the Double WestBred Bonus.  A double WestBred eligible horse that wins a 2yo or 3yo race receives double the Owner and Breeder bonuses.

RWWA Harness Racing Manager, Kerry Hanks, said “The Westbred Classic 2YO Fillies and Westbred 2YO Colts & Geldings races were increased from $50,000 to $100,000 in 2013.  This latest planned increase is part of RWWA’s WestBred Review.”

“Finer details and other outcomes of the Westbred Review will be released early next year.”

“The percentage split in stake money for the upgraded Westbred 2YO Classics will be varied to see 50% go to the winners of these races; the other 50% will be distributed to ensure a higher return for all placings, including those placed from 6th to last.”

“Breeders of the horses placed first to third will continue to receive the current Breeders Bonus of $5000, $3,000 and $2,000 respectively”

WA BOTRA President, Warren Robinson, commented he was pleased with the planned stakes increase and was hopeful the knowledge of the increased stakes would be an encouragement for people to consider breeding this season. He welcomed the change in stakes percentages.

WASBA President, Jeanine Diederich, also expressed support for the stakes increase and the change to the stakes percentages to runners in these races, which she believed would provide more encouragement to current owners and breeders, and anyone considering purchasing at the WA Yearling Sales. She commented it was a good initiative as part of the Westbred Review, with other changes from the Westbred Review also expected to be positive.

No idea where the race was likely to be funded from.

Change of date .......The Wed Jan 1st meeting shifted to Saturday Jan 4th....still a stand alone meeting. I suspect the Cold Chisel Concert on Jan 1st at Barnard Park might be euphemistically referred to "unforeseen circumstances" referred to in the RWWA Harness Twitter feed.

Good work @freodockers....saw it's last couple up the bush Camilia...tucked in nicely tonight behind the $1.20 shot and then just a case of getting out, then nope we are blocked, but got the run and the $5.80 a drum is what it's all about.

Pay's for the fish and chips that's for sure and a few fritters!

Nearly had a few bob a place Diamond Geezer ( Woodley ) but no, the 12 year old ran a cracker, and fell into third by an inch.

VK, the Giudice's (Ken (dec) and Barry) had a decent horse about 20 years ago, Divine Justice, that won quite a few races but not sure if ever in town.
Shellwood Prince ran 2nd at both GP and Fremantle but never won in town and Shellwood Idol did win metro races but for Graham Taylor.

Cheers for the info guys and congrats to Barry on the win with LL.
Not sure if Barry is the same Barry Guidice who played 25 games for Swans in the 1960s but if so then you can triple my congrats!

Can assure you boys Barry has definitely won races in town as a driver in the past. Am stabled with Baz (he’s always up for a yarn) and I’ve been told a few times about one he had that won a few in town with him in the bike.

Well done riders had a bit each way myself at 20s just couldn’t get the split. They keep offering the odds I’ll keep backing her. Still think jewelinhereye is not far off either just needs a break.

Oaksana Boy was a definite GP mid week winner for Baz in 2012. Hard pulling speedy type that made him earn his driving fee until he settled down later in his career.
