Only three runners without NZ after their name and drawn 8, 11 and 12.

....and Galactic Star draws the ten again, reckon it was going quite well again until finally knocked out of it, often draws a bad one and has no luck in a race, this time drawn behind Our Jimmy J - one last chance for some luck, think he's a top line pacer - his Interdominion efforts showed he's very good.

...and Vultan Tin 12 again...Vampiro out at 9...Ana Malak at 7...it's almost a carbon copy of the Fremantle Cup with them. Shockwave right out of the draw this time.

If was a betting man I'd be backing two horses - one of them will get luck and will win!!
    Bill Haley - Galactic Star.

Would be hitting that GP ring and @Chariotsonfire and plunging in turn, both of them.

Looks like Team Bond is going to have an All Stars type result, just need to find the right one!

If Snr wins it again - will say have seen everything, Caviar Star could not have had a better run in the Fremantle Cup, this time from barrier 6 he's 50/1 in my book.

However Gary Hall Snr - as said last week - give him an inch and he'll take a mile - his record in big races is second to none. But no can't possibly win the Pacing Cup this time...and that might be just the inch required.

You would have to take unders for Galactic Star off me.

Just waiting for the markets to appear - surprisingly the first two horses have put a line through are the Freo Cup winner Caviar Star and placegetter Vampiro.

    El Jacko - no chance.
Ana Malak - very good last week but would need a lot of luck.
Vultan Tin - twelve again, hard to have him as a winning chance.
Shockwave - it'll be awkward from out there. Very good pacer though.
Hands And Wheels - gets the smother this week, an interesting one.

Banking on either Bill or Galactic to get some luck this week, they could've easily ran the quinella in the Fremantle Cup neither had any luck, but they don't pay out on that. Caviar Star got the right drive, and made the most of it.

Interesting to see what horse Warwick drives.
Let Mighty Conquerer roll to the front and it's all over for "team 7 horses in a pacing cup".
How did we get to this.

On Tabtouch in a ridiculous high % market - Caviar Star just 6/1 from barrier 6 - sheeeesh, Our Jimmy J 7/1 from barrier one - but that's no surprise, he's some hope but every horse that draws the bullet at GP goes around at way way unders. Even Baghwan could draw the one and he'd open up under 10/1. Vampiro just 8/1 from gate 9.

About 6 or 7 of them under 10/1...but that market will change and should change on a few of them drastically.

    Smokey's - Hands And Wheels/Ana Malak.

Tabtouch have seven horses 8/1 and less.

Who can remember when the WA Pacing Cup field was decided in Interdominion fashion - three rounds of heats over three nights - standing start conditions.

What do recall is some roughies off the front line often running a place in the first round of heats. Over 30 horse's competing for 10 or 12 spots...from the stand, over three nights plus a final which meant they got sorted out, and at the same time was bloody good to watch.

Am sure someone once told me the Pacing Cup traditionally was run on New Years Night Jan 1st, that must have been just a little before my time. Run the same day as the Perth Cup...never knew that.

Terrible race and a absolutely no punting race for mine, still trying to fathom how we as an industry have come to this.

For what its worth my early market to 125%

    1 OUR JIMMY JOHNSTONE 11
    2 BILL HALEY 7
    3 OUR ALFIE ROMEO 51
    4 EL JACKO 51
    5 MIGHTY CONQUEROR 4.5
    6 CAVIAR STAR 11
    7 ANNA MALAK 51
    8 SHOCKWAVE 6
    9 VAMPIRO 15
    10 GALACTIC STAR 4.5
    11 HANDSANDWHEELS 15
    12 VULTAN TIN31

    OUR
JIMMY JOHNSTONE - may struggle over the last 100m
    BILL
HALEY - needs the right run, not sure he was savaging the line last week
    OUR
ALFIE ROMEO - awkward draw and huge class rise
    EL JACKO
    - unlikely to draw the Judge's attention
    MIGHTY
CONQUEROR - looks likely to breeze and key player
    CAVIAR
STAR - much harder than Fremantle Cup
    ANNA
MALAK - would need a miracle run
    SHOCKWAVE-
    terrible draw but racing  in
    scintillating form
    VAMPIRO
    - doubt he will catch them napping at the start this week
    GALACTIC
STAR - clear running at the right time will be crucial - best horse in race?
    HANDSANDWHEELS
    - can improve off soft run
    VULTAN
TIN - may have been to the well too often

    An intriguing race.

Because a hobby trainer from Kalgoorlie had the resources and the owners to make his own mark on the industry.

Bondy is just the latest in a list of set ups to exploit the racing policy of the former WATA & current RWWA.
Good luck to him ...he is fair dinkum rubbing it in of recent years...but only within the rules as they exist.

You don't have to be Einstein to work out that harness racing management of local racing policy has lacked appropriate agreement or integrated awareness, vision and direction for 30 years.
Buy NZ.....Race WA ...Sell USA ....that is the general winning formula supported by WA racing policy.
It is also the policy that has seen a contraction of WA breeder owners and trainer numbers that doesn't look like slowing down soon. Thus the diminishing interest in the WA industry at large.

Mr Bond openly declared on radio last week the buy to on sell is his business model.

Tabtouch market at 150% is hardly enticing punters to bet on a race with an established form line.

Other corporates vary from 130% to 135%.

Why on earth do we not have a proper named WA Pacing Cup Consolation & Fremantle Cup Consolation race anymore?

At least when the market % begins to come down and approaches reasonable levels should be a terrific betting race..big first four jackpot...ok who are the four rank outsiders...will anchor them third and fourth...Jacko, Alfie, Ana and the Vultan, they'll all need luck, much luck.

With the % markets of 130%...even Chariots 125%...whatever happened to under 110% markets ?! On the way to the barrier at Flemington the other week..racing.com fella says betting at a competitive 124%, I mean seriously.

Keep those markets up and unlike me punters coming through are a lot smarter at maths and will see through the charade of high % markets, and drift off to sports betting en masse.

Just with first four betting commission takeout rates - can recall 15%..ok fair at best..then 17.5 gee whiz, then up to 20% cmmmmon, and now it stands at 22.5%.

Tabcorp can you fleece the punter anymore - as they eye off a 25% rate, one quarter of the pool - it's just a matter of time.

Don't think Our Jimmy good enough to lead all the way.
2-4 are in no mans land and will all be looking for a sit.
5 will go forward but will have to work to get there, can be crossed.
6 will come out looking for cover was crossed from barrier 2 last week.
    7 will go back.
8 has average gatespeed and will commit suicide if he goes forward with those inside him.
9 can cross them all again, is the form horse of the race and deserved to win last week. As hard as they tried nothing could make ground from the back. If he goes forward and crosses he will be extremely hard to beat. If he goes back "team seven horses in a pacing cup" open it up to other rivals.
He will make the race if driven like last week.
10 good luck from this barrier in a race like this will be same as last week unless Our JJ leads which I doubt.
11 & 12 just can't see how on recent form, although would love to see them prove me wrong.

How Convert Denario didn't get a start is an absolute joke, the panel that made him an emergency in favor of inferior horses are nothing but an incompetent joke and need to either resign or be fired.

Straight to the point. Haha. Yes I think to include a mare tackling open class horses and I believe first time outside mares company for the first time in her career in the pacing cup is certainly the wrong call.
  • WidenoballWidenoball    7 posts
Seems pretty unfair to those that have genuinely qualified and proven they can handle the class. Checking her form even her times don’t match that class. Hope she doesn’t stop and create problems under pressure. Would be a bad look on RWWA.

Think Our Alfie Romeo leads initially and hands to Mighty Conqueror so she will get a relatively easy trip in that scenario....if any trip is easy in the pacing cup.  Agree ...she is almost a wild card entry. Where the race pressure comes from after that ??...will have to be from post mid race successive late charges from the non two blues camps you would s'pose.

That was initially it too, surely happy for her to cross otherwise why would Grantham take the drive on her over Ana Malik?

Why won't Jimmy hunt through and hold the lead at least temporarily, that'd suit Mighty Conqueor and Galactic Star and Jimmy himself...not much point having Alfie dropping back in that pairs laps.

Look for Jimmy J to push up hard I reckon...if he doesn't their goes my Galactic Star. Jimmy I thought had pretty good gate speed, and he's a bit of a chance...at worst behind leader, at best leads.

With Mighty C in front, Our JJ behind and Galactic Star three back and don't worry about Alfie!

Or Jimmy leads and Galactic Star trails - even better - they won't possibly beat Galactic Star if that's the case and if he gets out - two big if's.
