MARCH 26, 2020
HARNESS
RWWA Stewards yesterday conducted the inquiry into a report received from RWWA Senior Investigator Mr. Geoff Johnson in relation to an allegation that on Tuesday 17th March 2020, Mr. Johnson observed Harness Trainer Mr. Lang Inwood at his registered training premises stomach tubing JUST A HORSE which was nominated, and engaged to race in Race 5 at Gloucester Park, that evening.
After hearing evidence from Mr. Johnson, Mr. Inwood and RWWA Manager Veterinary Services Dr. J Medd, Stewards issued the following charges:
Charge 1 – RWWA Harness Rule of Racing 193 – Stomach tubing, atomisers and other devices
The particulars of the charge being that on Tuesday 17th March 2020, Mr. Inwood, at his registered training premises, did stomach tube the pacer JUST A HORSE, which was nominated to compete in Race 5 at Gloucester Park that evening.
Charge 2 – RWWA Harness Rule of Racing 196C – Administering Substances
The particulars of the charge being that on Tuesday 17th March 2020, Mr. Inwood did, at his registered training premises, administer the alkalinising agent “Neutralizer” (sodium citrate) by way of stomach tube to the pacer JUST A HORSE on the same day it was scheduled to race at Gloucester Park in Race 5, and accordingly did administer an alkalinising agent contrary to sub-rule (1) of HR196C.
Mr. Inwood pleaded guilty to both charges, and after hearing submissions on penalty, the matter was adjourned to enable Stewards to determine penalty.
The suspension of Mr. Inwood’s licences to train and drive applied as of 17th March 2020, pending outcome of the inquiry, continues to apply.
RACE 3 – COWDEN THE INSURANCE BROKERS – THE CLARKE PACE. 2130MS
AMERICAN BRAVE – An inquiry was opened into the performance of AMERICAN BRAVE and tactics adopted by G. Hall Jnr. Of concern to the stewards was the tempo of the race in early and middle stages which was set by AMERICAN BRAVE when racing to the outside of THE BIRD DANCE and that AMERICAN BRAVE gave ground from the 600 metres to finish eleventh, beaten 130 metres. G. Hall Jnr stated the gelding was stirred up in the preliminary and he had no pre race intention to lead the race however the horse took charge at the start and he was unable to steady him. He added entering the home straight on the first occasion he tried to move to the marker pegs and take a trail on THE BIRD DANCE but the leader eased the pace and he was unable to move in. He stated in hindsight had he moved to a marker peg position it could have been more dangerous as he was not sure he would have been able to control him if he was trailing another horse. Trainer G. Hall Snr stated AMERICAN BRAVE had been working well at home and showing no signs of over-racing however it was now his intention to make gear adjustments including the addition of an anti-choking device. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the offside foreleg. AMERICAN BRAVE has been stood down from racing until a veterinary certificate is provided and the completion of one re-qualifying trial. The inquiry into the tactics adopted by G. Hall Jnr was adjourned to allow stewards to consider the evidence, review the previous races of AMERICAN BRAVE and examine all aspects of betting. No date has been set for the resumption of the inquiry.
RACE 4 – TABTOUCH PACE. 2130MS
General:
R. Warwick, Stable foreman for G. & S. Bond was questioned regarding the tactics adopted by MIGHTY SANTANNA (D. Egerton-Green) and JUSTASEC (R. Warwick) in particular the driving instructions issued to D. Egerton-Green. R. Warwick stated MIGHTY SANTANNA was first up for five weeks and while he was confident he could lead the race in the early stages, connections were concerned about not only his fitness but him having a hard run. He stated last preparation the gelding had been disappointing when beaten even after being able to lead with no pressure applied and prior to that the gelding has had some hard runs which can have a negative effect mentally. He added the instructions issued to D. Egerton-Green were to surrender the lead, probably to JUSTASEC which connections consider to be a better performed horse. R. Warwick added he may have erred in his own tactics on JUSTASEC and after working hard and racing wide for the most of the first lap, he should have remained two wide and sat off MIGHTY SANTANNA.
In considering the instructions issued and tactics adopted, it was noted that the first horse to challenge MIGHTY SANTANNA was ATHABASCAN, and that challenge was not sustained and had ceased by the first turn. Thereafter there was no challenge for the lead until near the 1400 metres when JUSTASEC improved to his outside and to the lead. Stewards were of the opinion the tactics adopted by both D. Egerton-Green and R. Warwick were not unreasonable in the circumstances therefore no further action was warranted.

Would have loved for it to stay in the moving line on Golden Horshoes back like I expected but probably didnt hit the line hard enough anyhow.
