Serious question what scoreboard on commentaries was first Wynns for Datsun scoreboard--or  the  Windscreens O'Brien scoreboard -----or they were at different grounds, same time. Wafl

You have got me there STG was it SD's Bassendean Oval by any chance?
I have listened to some old WAFL broadcasts from the 1960s & 1970s with the legendary Frank Sparrow in commentary over the years and do know that "On the Metters Scoreboard" was used for Subiaco Oval matches especially old GF's from back then.

Have no idea ,regards being at any oval ? ,maybe ? sponsers of around the grounds, regards score checks, listening on the radio, j.k.watts era as a commentator ?.they got value for money.both got a hammering.

There were a lot of Archie Martin and Sydney Atkinson scoreboards as well....I think it was down to the station sponsor ......I remember "that's a contender for the Ozone Hotel mark of the day" or the Golden Fleece goal of the day? VK, Frank Sparrow's comrade behind the microphone was the meliflous and brilliant Oliver Drake Brockman.

On the old Ch7 World Of Football panel of a Sunday morning JJ that the late great Frank Sparrow hosted I can vaguely remember the Ian Diffen Mark Of The Day and the Town & Country Goal Of The Day or maybe the other way around.
They were great days on both radio and TV for footy (sports in general) and race calling.

I didnt mind Gary Carvolth - quite liked him

He used to have a sports show on the radio - many years ago - 6PR - it was on a weekday - about 3-4pm - went for about an hour - Mon - Frid

And i especially enjoyed when Carvolth interviewed Mahatma Coat - they were classics - Carvolth played the straight man in those interviews brilliantly - a bit like when that bloke use to interview Benny Hill - when Benny dressed up the Chinese bloke

    Good morning Chariots.
I am staying home and abiding by the isolation rules.
The football news is that slow, that it seems everyone can’t be bothered AFL posting.
Good to see your keeping the thread alive even if it potentially to have a crack at me.....but that is ok.

My first thoughts on “brand Fyfe” at Margaret River was naughty boy. But I believe he was down there for trucking reasons and whilst he was waiting To get his truck loaded or unloaded he decided to have a surf.
    Nothing to see here.....play on.

But I can’t let “brand Fyfe” off completely scott free without a “drive by”.
He left for the game against Essendon wearing sunglasses at the airport.
After getting a shiner during the game he returns home minus the sunglasses.
In the words of Kath and Kim “ look at me...look at me. Haha

I thought it was typical of the Victorian clubs to intervene and stop the two WA clubs having training sessions for 10 players on the grounds that it gave them an unfair advantage. Of course travelling the long distance interstate every second week does not present the Victorian clubs with an advantage.

Also good to hear Kane Cornes telling Josh Kennedy where he should play out his career. What a load of crap.

Why should any team get to train before another one? The WA teams chose to join a national comp, give me a spell on the advantage. Best teams win and the travel didn’t seem to affect the Eagles in 92, 94, 06 and 2018 did it?

Even tougher on the misses and Kids when Dad has no income. Which should happen in my opinion if they refuse to play. What's 5 months of your life. When you are still earning big $$$$.

And give me spell on this mental health bullshittt that the players association are pushing ATM.

I don't like this stance, everyone's position is different, at the moment everyone is being tarred with the same brush and if they for any reason don't want to do the hub they are letting down the nation and their duty to the game, what a load of crap.

What about a bloke who has just had a baby, his Mrs is suffering from post natal depression, they live in a state isolating them from the rest of the family. Even if their family do live local they might be able to catch up but they cant really pitch in because the elderly are the vulnerable and although we in WA are now allowed to socialise you still have to keep the 1.5m (so nappy change/bath time etc) and not all states have eased the restrictions anyhow.

I know having an 18 month old where due to circumstances we have had very minimal family help if my employer said to me you are going away, it might be 8 weeks, it might be 20 weeks, we don't know where, we don't know if your family will be able to visit at all, your Mrs at home can't have a chop out at all I'd be asking some bloody questions which is all that the players have done! I'm sure that there are some of the mindset from the initial talks that would probably sit it out with no pay if that's what it took.

People need to get of their high horses and put themselves in others shoes. They aren't going to war, the game isn't going to cease to exist if they don't play this season, there is more to life than kicking a football.

    Well said Gilga!

Jum even putting the big $$$$ u mentioned their on into context your a hardmarker where is your compassion.

Personally Idrgaf when it starts up again but I reckon they should wait until normal service is option A(this storm In a teacup for Australia at least is not that far from over so it should be sooner rather than later they can resume said normal service?)and maybe just restrict crowds for a month or two longer or more as deemed appropriate??

They do earn plenty of coin so they should be able to survive for 3 to 4 months on half pay or whatever their getting, must still be getting some of their contract money surely?

That's my 2c worth but I'm not a solid Afl fan desperate to see action again, so I'm looking at it with some compassion on the separation factor which is real for some of these players..having known personally of two people who committed suicide(one had a 1yo daughter)in the past 16 months mental illness should NEVER be scoffed at and how much money you have doesn't matter fugall.

I AM NOT ON A HIGH HORSE here. I've had to lay people off work this last 8 weeks because of this dam virus on a hell of a lot less money than these players. They have wives and new babies and 1 had only just got a mortgage 3 weeks before. Hardest thing to do is pull someone in your office and lay them off for no bloody reason. These men now have no income.

Someone tell me what would be harder please. Losing a 80K a year job and having no income wife 2 kids and a mortgage or working away for ten weeks having a 2 week break then away for POSSIBLY another 10 week stint (AND THIS IS WORSE CASE SCENARIO. LIKE YOU SAID GILGA. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO WAR)

These players are paid extremely well. fair enough don't play. that is there decision. but get replacements then. They should not be paid for staying at home. which is what some of them expect. Even the 30% that they possibly might end up with on average they will still earn  more than the average Australian.
    And too me that's Fuc%$#.
Don't like the hub or can't handle it. Be like the rest of Australia and find a normal job on 70K a year. And then the Teams can go find replacements.

    Spot on Jum.
Lets not forget the afl players salaries date back to October (when contracts begin) so from then to end of March half of the year they have been paid in full and it is only April & May that has been on 50% pay (this is on an average players salary across the comp of nearly $400k).
These players have completely lost touch with reality they want everything on their terms all of the time (remember Dangerfield for example was completely opposed to the proposed hubs in WA, SA etc but when VIC was thrown up then he is all for it)!!
If certain players are not happy with the hubs etc which are last resort options being proposed to try and get some football in to help pay these primadonnas salaries with the TV rights money then easy dont play (and dont expect to get paid either) I am sure others would love to take the opportunity that has presented itself, but dont expect to also pick up your exorbitant salary too whilst sitting at home with the family either you cant have your cake and eat it too!
The afl executive have often rolled over to what the players demand it is about time they called their bluff with this one- no play = no pay!

I would agree with you - if the players wernt greedy - 50% is greedy - theve done the training and played 1 game - a fair remuneration would be 20% not a cent more - but for some stupid reason Gilligan caved into them  and gave them 50% - and as a result he is now running around like a chook with its head cut off - trying to reboot the season ( with this ridiculous hub nonsense ) - and he is only doing it to balance the books - its all about money

The AFL should have done what the British golf did -  there will be no British Open played this year - in its magnificent history thats the 1st time thats ever happened - theve said the logistics of playing it are just too hard - but they  are already planning for next year

And thats precisely what the AFL should have done - and done nice and early - cancel this season - i mean  what supporter is going to value this years flag - plus empty stadiums - its a farce call it off - thats the sensible thing to do
