Remember going there as a kid for Harvey Cup I think.
Don’t know who the cooks in the kitchen were but would say they were of European background and to this day I still remember that food.
Then there was York with the wood fired bbqs and Northam with the butcher looking bloke and his hot daughters in the little brick building sware was 10 x 6 foot, pumping out the best steak burgers in the land.
I loved there burgers but geez would have married one of his daughters in a heartbeat.
Who was that family anyone know.

This is the listing of Fixed odds favourites today at Pinjarra

    2.20
    1.45
    1.45
    2.60
    1.18
    1.55
    1.30
    1.12
    1.32

    and they all won .

Is this a good advertisment for Harness Racing, with such short price favourites at $1.12, $1.18 with the others no chance on those prices. ?

The only wierd thing today Hall's $2.60 winner paid $ 6.20 on the tote that is very abnormal differential

Any ideas why GP meetings on Tuesdays are treated like they are a protected species? The premise of running a premier midweek meeting at GP is quickly becoming farcical.

We have had a meeting not held due to lack of noms, several meetings with sub-par race numbers with few full fields, and a seeming lack of catering to horse numbers in classes that could easily be filled.

Today sees another less than stellar turnout; 6 races with fields of 8,8,11,9,8, and 7. How can this be good for turnover?

less horses now with 6 scratching, looks like they split the last 2 races as well, lucky to have a meeting at all.

All bar the winner in the last were firmers, bookies would have taken a hammering 7 firming favourites & one favourite win all 8 races.

    Factors affecting Tuesday Nominations
    • Mid Week - those with employment outside of the industry with work commitments unable to attend
    • Temperature 38*
    • Programmed races may not be the best available to suit pool of available horses (program has not been fluid and evolving enough)
    • A lot of Meetings on with Double meeting Fridays,Sat,Sun,Monday which account for approx 500 horses from the pool of horses racing
    • current pool of horses low
Most likely horses available for Nominations would be
    • A - Those consistently attending a Tuesday same horses week in week out from local metro or professional full-time trainers
    • B -Those balloted from other meetings programmed Friday/Sat/Mon which come from the bottom of the FSP table
    • C- Those Balloted from Community meetings which would come from the top of the FSP table
In Summary the Format for provision of available horse pool for Monday/Tuesday is flawed to turn this around they would need to have a stronger pool of horses available and have the Top FSP (field selection points) from country races and Bottom FSP from metro races available for Provincial Mon/Tue meetings, which is a tough thing to do because people want to head hunt the easy races in the country(everyone does it ),
Theory of expansion of ascending order selection for Country and Community(already in Ascending order ) meetings would work to boost their numbers as people with in form High FSP horses are more likely to travel to Pinjarra,Bunbury,GP than those out of form (which is what they currently expect and program for with the L5$ LT races) ,it would create more competitive fields at all tracks due to a better balance of horses in the divided pools
I also think GP every Tuesday is too much and at a minimum it should be split week to week with Bunbury reducing travel component for a majority of the industry ,they say GP has better turnover than Bunbury so they wont budge and wont give up the meetings at GP Tuesday ,are they doing the right thing for the industry by holding onto them if they cant fill them hoping numbers will increase when the number of available meetings are reduced or number of horses spelled as a cause of the PBD/$L3 and change of season

1471 individual horses raced last season.----availability of approx. 400 per week needed for fields of 10 --- 5 meetings--- 8 races  about 30% is required then who fits were is the hard part.to cater for the  bands & age racing ---etc.etc to program------.decent cards----.dishing up tripe tonight.

    2 x 4 y/o and up maidens at Albany on Fri....19 acceptors.
21 x 3y/o + maiden nominations for Northam Sat night.

GP is the only track in Australasia that doesn't run open age maidens

How is embarrassing is South Australian harness racing. They cannot even name the track - Port Pirie.
  • savethegamesavethegame    2,786 posts
Two differentt meetings four races from port pirie---and three races from  Mount Gambier hence called South Australia  to avoid confusion for the punters. thats how bad its got.there

Interesting runner R2 at Northam Im Still Smiling. First run in nearly 7 years for the 10yr old! Bit of patience from the Rogers family there. Recent trial winner, in the market, pretty sure if it gets up it would be the trainers first winner.

Nope.....I didn't ......and it topped off a shocker of a week, much gnashing of teeth and hand wringing over numerous issues....but good luck to Claire, she got bargain of the century. He recently had quite a few hoof issues but she has worked tirelessly to get him back. No doubt, some will take great pleasure from his win and will doubtless be smirking behind their hands........the sort of people that laugh at old ladies getting skittled on crosswalks.

Wow - i only said it in jest - you must have had a bad week

One thing that has improved - last 3 weeks or so  the West Australians Saturday edition coverage of GP Frid nights action

Today very good again - covered about 3-4 of the main races from Frid night - lovely picture of Hamiltons feature winner - told us they paid 17.5k for the horse as a yearling

The coverage in Sat West at the moment - you wouldnt get that in Syd or Melb - you just wouldnt

With some of the stakes on offer on Sat nights at Globe Derby surely makes it worthwhile sending horses over that are struggling here.

Hopefully the track holds up today for the cup,it’s bucketing down.

Geezus, that would upset the "only race at tracks close to my joint brigade", other venues have been suggested with shut down when it dares to rain at their tracks. Tongue in cheek, of course I hope it goes ahead.

Tracks close to my joint theory went out the window Sat night when a 20.0k race was put on at Northam. Should happen more often on  main country tracks as far as I’m concerned.

If it’s canned due to mobile safety there will no doubt be some questions asked.

Agree Gilga thought if VT leads obviously big chance. Can just see something kicking over him on long straight. Maybe Bletchley Park who should get a nice cart into it.

Assuming VT holds up Galactic Star gets the run of the race and can use the cheats lane.
