    The long term stats:
Favourites winning percentages regardless of price:

    NSW
    Metro 33.3%
    Prov   35.8%
    Vic
    Metro   31.3%
    Prov    34.0%
    WA
    Metro   34.0%
    Prov     32.6%

When the favorites are odds on:
    NSW
    Metro    57.1%
    Prov      57.2%
    Vic
    Metro    54.1%
    Prov      54.7%
    WA
    Metro    56.3%
    Prov      54.0%

Quoting a few celebrated examples of longshots winning is populist but not really definitive. However, Victorian racing does have slightly lower percentages of favourites and odds on favourites winning.

The Emirates now known as the Longines Mile - it was Tears I Cry in 2007 - was around 250/1.

Think Empire Rose ( champion huge NZ mare ) was about 66/1 in a McKinnon and won then a few days later started favourite in the Melbourne Cup and won that too.

Most thought will just have a nice pipe opener into the Cup but she went bang at the clickety click to one. Those Kiwis..could be sneaky.

Ladies and gents i give you Pablo's Pulse @ Warwick Farm 500-1 and the record holder and never won another race....

Saw an ad for Blue Bet must be a newer one on the scene? i have had varying issues with some corps lost all bonuses with Pointsbet and Neds too pretty much so pizzed them off, still don't mind them and stick with Tabtouch a bit, although they cop some **** other than betfair there prices are as good as any(generally ahead of Sportsbet who are maybe the biggest?)the just mentioned Sportsbet is the other main one for me.
Signed up with Ladrbrokes but find i haven't used them really..and i must be a dummy or it's my app but i find Bet365 navigationally considerably harder so avoid them mostly too lol

yep i remember tears i cry, nikita berriman and trained by ciaron maher, probably his 1st gr.1 and when he had  normal hair.
why i remember is that i was surprised at the name of his sire Lacryma Cristi (ire) which translates to "Tears of Christ". should never have got past the naming committee...especially in Catholic Ireland.

Thought Dulicfy was  a strange long price winner 330/1 won his first start -----,was able to win a cox plate by  seven lgths later .Sugar Lips always maintained he was hist best horse. Strange his  card finished up 10 wins from 21 starts ..Dulicfy mustive kept a fair bit in the locker. at trackwork.

B.L. No disrespect grew up with family & friends  invovled in both codes----.bookies were the germans----  even a fourth cousin of a bookie was too close to talk horses with. it was so common  jocks would do 2 -360s before to make sure no ears were on the job. everything was so secretive.taught  extra point is everything.on a racecourse.back then..

One of the better sprays heard on a course was at the trots B.M. was the bookie when two punters came to collect you wouldn't like to catch quarter of what he wished on them...

Thunderstruck, BLUE BET is owned by Sydney rails bookie Michael Sullivan.

Sullivan retired from operating on track years ago, and became a major shareholder in Sportingbet. He either sold out there or was, shall we say, displaced, and went back to working on track on the rails in Sydney.

He is still working there today, even though he has his Blue Bet site.

Blue bet has got 85,000 subscribers, of which 25, 000 bet on on a regular basis,
He recently announced that he will be going public in the near future with Blue bet.

Having a discussion about the old Ascot ring today and Brett Lentons name come up my mate reckons he would have to be 80 years old can anybody confirm roughly how old he would be?

I think Brett is one year younger than me and that makes him 72.

Does anyone remember the “Casino Room” at the far end of Ascot (river side) there was Rod Evans, Hooley Dooley and one other - betting Eastern States and local / straight out and each way - packed always - punters and runners dashing off to the main ring to compare or lay off - 1970’s - saw Bob Hawke there once.

The late Flying Dutchman Steve Spanbrook was usually beside Rod Evans in the Casino Room. At one stage Steve and his brother I believe owned the Leederville Hotel.

Correct Falcon he had The Norwood. I thought they had an intertest in Leederville also at one time.

My preferred betting provider is Betfair if betting on track on the day.

But I prefer to bet early when markets open, and in futures markets (with a view to laying off the stake on Betfair if the price shortens). The best options for me are Sportsbet and the TAB. They are the only proper bookmakers as far as my experience is concerned. Sportsbet do restrict me but they at least allow a decent win. The rest either have banned me (except to the extent legally required to take a bet) or apply such heavy restrictions as to make it pointless.

Bet365 are the absolute pits, gutless parasites. No wonder they are making filthy amounts of money, they just ban winning punters.

Ran into a mate at the races yesterday and I can tell you who his least favourite bookie is after yesterday. Sportsbet. He had a four leg multi . The winner of the first yesterday into Adelaide to beat North Melb into two NRL legs which both got up. When he logged into his account they had deleted the first leg due to it not being run on the advertised scarpside course. He was about to take it up with them when I left .

Grubs  so all losing bets due a refund  y/day --what happens during a meeting when distances get altered , also rail shifts  made to avoid a bad section of the track.Think also people with multiple accounts run the risk with technology betting patterns, facebook accounts.to marry who's- who- The day they have a massive win.be a different ball game ?.

The bookies "ring" is now boring, quiet and unimaginative. Does a bookmaker ever say "thanks" when you place abet with them - very very rarely in my experience.

And they are hardly ever better odds than the tote. Their demise has been, sadly, coming for some time.

If they are to survive, they should be innovative and fun.

Never heard a tote machine say thanks either.
