also, any news on the 2 guys above ^^?
I actually followed the gallops back then but i thought Mark Sestich was a champion jockey - great balance and style  and all class

Miller is obviously the best WA jock - Bart rated him the no 1 of all his riders - and he had Higgins and White amongst others

But Sestich - he would have to be in in WA best 3-4 jockeys - in fact id put him 2nd behind Miller - because like i say he was a champion jockey - i dont know what happened to him at the end - whether weight or injuries caught up with him - but in his heyday he was excellent

Rod Kemp was very effective - but he was more along the lines of Jimmy Johnson - the Lion Tamer style - where as Sestich was all class

Richie Bell still gives The Penguin a mention as they go out of the GP home straight " out of the home straight past the former home of the Penguin" ;))

To a couple of blokes potting Brodie Kirby on previous page the answer is in todays West. One would think spinal fusion may take a while to get over especially when your profession  is a jockey. wish you  agood outcome young fella and that your back in the saddle soon

Jeff Berry would be approaching 60 I'd reckon....it was 1983 and still an apprentice when he rode Scornvale to the treble in the Gimcrack Stakes, The Karrakatta Plate and the deadheat in the Queens Plate (with JJ Miller on one of George Ways) for his master Brian Mueller.

    Thanks My Friend

You can back anything he’s on with confidence when the money is on!

Must be getting paid a reasonable quid to hang up the saddle

must be, V_v when we have heard what those melbourne jocks earning capacity was/is.
don't forget the riding fees, what is it now? about $200...so a jock with say,16 rides a week...sat, wed, thurs, sun is looking at @ $3k a week without riding a placed horse.
have a look at the jocks car park.....
    :-S
how old is AK? maybe he's just having a sea change for 12 months.

Less money maybe. But maybe it’s about the better lifestyle?

Not judging. People can do whatever they like to put bread on the table.

Probably was a battle for him to get 15 rides a week though not sure on that?, so yes a set 120k p.a/2200 per week variable a bit depending on the fifo roster, not bad at all for a while at least.
May be lucky enough to be on 8/6 so averaging around 160 days off per year.

He’s got a gig with an owner he used to ride for and had plenty of success with so no doubt he’s got it good where he’s at as they had a good relationship, the guy he works for is a top bloke that’s helped a couple other guys in our industry get their foot in the door working FIFO

i saw in the press adam mcgrath was fined $1500 for punting on his clients (CJP's) mounts. is adam still in the states? if so, it'd be virtually impossible to manage a busy jocks mounts and obligations from the USA. the time difference would be a huge obstacle.
    any thoughts?
