Belmont 15/9/21

West Australian Racing
R1- LINDRAM WALTER was heavily supported first up when not a lot went right. Had two trials prior to that run including a poor one on a soft6 and a nice one on a dry track. Over raced off a slow tempo and took a while to wind up over 1100 first up but really hit the line and last start struck a soft6 over 1400 and looked a touch plain. Raced forward and plugged away behind some smart ones in the straight. Comes back to 1300, should avoid any rain on the day and this is a lot easier than his last start.

R2- Best Bet: DIAMOND BLUE looks much better suited in this second up at 1300. Placed in a Perth Stakes and only beaten 6L in the Karrakatta Plate, he trialled up stylishly for his return leading and skipping clear under little pressure. Raced like 1000m might simply be a little too short for him first up last week when jumping best before being crossed and not showing a real turn of foot behind some nice types in Bitofmerit and Buzzoom. Drops a fair way in grade back to a maiden, drops 4.5kg at set weights and should lead pretty cheap.

R3- ELUSIVE DREAM had trialled well enough prior to her debut flop. Was well supported late in betting and despite looking poor was probably unsuited. Was ridden to sit leaders back in a fast run race on a soft7 and looks capable of improvement here onto a dry/drier track. Can also be ridden a bit colder from eight in a race where they shouldn’t go as hard. Willing to follow Bob’s lead and forgive and go again.

R4- SURF POINT has contested two super high rating staying races at his last two. Has been sat out the back and forced to make sustained wide runs at both. Only managed a midfield finish two back but that was his first attempt at the extended trip and last start was a strong winner. Strikes a small field here and is drawn low but there should be enough tempo to bring him into it. The cutaway being in play should also ensure he gets a run as the field fans.

R5- PEPPER ASSAULT looks a mare who can progress right through the grades. Holly Taylor is taking her time with this mare and so far she is undefeated after two. Was a strong winner in her maiden first up beating three winners including three time winner Agent Kensington. Last start did all the work when beating Mystery Man who goes pretty good. Is versatile so Pike can some up his options early and put her where there’s room.

R6- TWICE LUCKY is the interesting runner in this field. Is a 3yo taking on the older horses in a class one and looks to have a couple of quirks. First up last prep sat deep on speed before laying out badly and being eased out. Went back to trials, was given a quiet one and was plunged in a Pinjarra maiden when leading and bowling along to win well. Then went to a strong midweek 2yo race but took a sit leaders back and wasn’t as effective. Recent trial was okay and he should lead this comfortably and give a big kick.

R7- BELGRANO BELLE looks a filly with some ability. Another 3yo taking on the older horses in a class one, this time over 1700. Got a long way back first up over 1300 and took a while to wind up but was hitting the line hard. Was plunged last start when forced to earn it, winning her maiden in good time. Sat back, went early and had to fight back underneath Chang Man who goes okay with 3.5L back to third. Can sit midfield here from the gate and looks well placed with 55.5kg.

R8- STABLE SECRET flies fresh. Has five top two finishes from 11 goes first up and simply doesn’t know he’s ten. Was a winner in this grade last prep beating a stronger field and his recent trial without blinkers was really good when jumping quick and not being asked to do anything behind a real smart one in Ruthless Tycoon. Will look to kick through and lead from two and from there Ryan Hill can rate him and has had a lot of success on him in the past.

    Couple of value bets today.

R3. Miner addiction. Battled Red 53 all the way first up, who has since come out and won well on Saturday. Fitter second up, plus should enjoy the extra distance.

R5. Winnies Wine. Turned its form around since dropping down to 1000/1100 races. Not much luck in its last 3, including a fast finishing 3rd to Pepper Assault and losing by a nose to Agent Kensington. If can get out in the straight should be swooping late.

Nothing grabbed me in an early look except the 2 fav's in the last so NO bets for me today and by the first two results maybe a wise move...

Sticking with Block Of Land today , Saftey Bays trail was good enough for me to take on the Fav since it beat it in the trial although Saftey is a cat.
