Raceday Review Saturday 21st May

West Australian Racing
Given Monday's are really slow on PTT... anyone got any comments on Saturday's racing. Horses to follow, horses to sack, horses that were unlucky etc.
I'll start off by saying that Searchin Rocs was a good run after what looked to be a pretty ordinary trial leading in. Having said that, said race was run much slower in comparison to race 2...which was run at breakneck.

Rokanori looks in for a big campaign.

Gates of Babylon looks to be back after being in the wilderness for 2 years.

Most disappointing: Hardly Ever (every chance but noted in stewards returned with mucous in trachea)... Advanced (disappointing, every mortal chance).

Win of the day: Sluice Box (has been the unluckiest horse in the state).
+1 -1

Race 1. DRUMMOND GOLF PLATE (1000m)
Trainer Ms J Mitchell was advised that a warning will be placed against TROPICAL SUN in view of the
    filly’s starting manners.
Race 6. TABTOUCH – BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1600m)
In relation to LORDHELPMERUN leading today, Jockey C Parnham stated that it was his instructions
to find cover however with the addition of blinkers the gelding commenced to race keenly through the
early and middle stages and as a result led the event by a considerable margin, he further stated that
rather than attempting to steady and restrain his mount it was more beneficial, in his opinion, to allow
the gelding to stride out, his explanation was noted by Stewards. A post-race veterinary examination
revealed the gelding had returned lame in the near-fore. Trainer Mr M Grantham was advised the
gelding would require a veterinary certificate of soundness and must trial to the satisfaction of the
Stewards prior to racing again. Mr Grantham advised the gelding will now be retired.
Race 8. SKYRACING.TV PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES FINAL (1400m)
Apprentice L Ramoly (DOUBLE SPICE), in the accompaniment of a RWWA Jockey Coach, and Jockey
K Witten (JAKESTAR) were shown a section of the patrol film, in relation to DOUBLE SPICE being held
tight at the 250m and having to steadied when JAKE STAR shifted inwards marginally when being
tested which resulted in the above incident. When assessing the incident, Stewards were of the
opinion that DOUBLE SPICE had not secured the run however was disappointed as a result of JAKE
STAR shifting inwards marginally through this section of the race. Stewards were of the opinion that
no rider had ridden carelessly however reminded Ms Witten of her obligations of maintaining a straight
course at all times when testing her mounts to avoid incidents of this nature in future.

    Race 8. Continued:
LONG KNIFE BROTHER became fractious in its barrier and reared, getting cast momentarily in the
adjacent stall, was unloaded and underwent at veterinary examination and was found to be unsuitable
to race and was withdrawn on veterinary advice at 4:16pm. A post-race veterinary examination
revealed the gelding to have sustained abrasions to the forelegs and blood in one nostril. Trainer Mr D
Atwell was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of soundness and must trial
to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
Race 9. BYRON BAY PREMIUM LAGER HANDICAP (1200m)
Jockey T Turner (LIWA) was shown a section of the patrol film when rounding the home turn, he
permitted his mount to shift outwards resulting in CRYPTIC LOVE (K Bennett) having to be eased.
Jockey T Turner was advised that in similar circumstances he is to ensure he is fully clear of other
    runners prior to shifting ground.

thats because he is a bloody good horseman/trainer. their set up is world class and his training fees are fair and most reasonable.
but i bet he has a couple of stalls set aside for a couple of bobs.....don't speculate, my thoughts only!

Speaking of Ash Maley he has 3 e.w chances in on Wednesday, 2 in the very open last race are Stocktaka and Arnie's Boy who while he doesn't win often or recently was a terrific close up 5th at its last run the Saturday before last.
Ponty jumps on Arnie's Boy this time it will be interesting to see if Stocktaka presses to lead with Dyson on and if Pont then takes a sit just in behind.

Thoroughbred stewards’ inquiry – jockey Mr Paul Harvey
Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) stewards today concluded an inquiry into
the behaviour of jockey Paul Harvey (ARNIE’S BOY) in the Stewards Room during an inquiry
following the running of Race 8, the TABTOUCH -BETTER YOUR BET HANDICAP (1400m) in
relation to an incident which occurred near the 100m.
Evidence was taken from jockey Mr P Harvey, his legal representative Mr J Young, RWWA
senior steward Mr C Brown, and Western Australian Jockeys’ Association (WAJA) President
    Mr C Staples.
Jockey Mr P Harvey subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR228 (c) in that he
engaged in improper behaviour in the Belmont Park Stewards Room following the running of
Race 8 at Belmont on Wednesday, 25 May 2022 by speaking in an improper manner to the
    Stewards.
Jockey Mr P Harvey was suspended from riding in races for a period of fourteen (14) days
backdated to midnight 26 May 2022, being the date he was initially stood down with the
penalty to expire at midnight on Thursday, 9 June 2022.
    In consideration of penalty, stewards took into account the following factors;
    • His guilty plea and acknowledgment of fault at the earliest possible opportunity
    • His level of remorse and that he is undertaking professional counselling to address
    such behaviour
    • His unconditional apology to the presiding stewards panel
    • His personal circumstances
    • His prior good record
    • The comments were improper and offensive and directed to the stewards in the
    course of their duties
    • That such conduct is unacceptable and the need for the penalty to reflect an
    appropriate level of deterrence

So how much time would he have been given for the ride on Arnie's Boy if he hadn't said anything to the stewards?
To me it looks like he didn't get much extra time if any for the "reaction" to the verdict.
