Willie hasn’t had a great season. Had a bit going on as a lot of the Eagles have.

But if Willie can get a decent run at it and with a good pre season then he makes us a much better team.
Would hate to see him playing his best footy along side his relatives tearing us apart. That would devastate me.[-O<
Rioli’s shouldn’t be playing for Richmond in the first place. Result of another middle finger rule bought in by the VFL to suit their own agenda.

I think you will find the father son rule was bought in at a time when VIC teams were struggling and the top eight was littered with interstate teams.
How is the father son rule fair when Most interstate clubs hadn’t had time to reproduce.
It was introduced to advantage VIC clubs in the draft imo.
Maurice Rioli played for SF in the WAFL before he played for Richmond, so should his progeny be 1st selection for either WA based AFL club???.
No because WAFL history doesn’t count.

    Make some good points Dickers.
How did Alex Rance not be father son at the Eagles or Western Bulldogs .:-?

AFL tribunal is a joke. Cripps decision is a farce.
And for those that want to throw up the Rioli one as a precedence don’t waste your time.
This decision including the Rioli one proves there is no such thing as duty of care.
If the ball is in the air and someone is standing under ii you now have the green light to take them out.

The Father/Son rule in the WAFL was 50 games for the club the father played at to be eligible, the VFL made it 100 games for VIC clubs and when the likes of WCE, Freo, Adel, Port etc came in they had to have played 150 games in the WAFL prior to 1987 for WCE, 1991 Adel, 1995 Freo & 1997 Port from memory?

He was a Father/Son at Swan Districts as Murray played 140 odd games for the Black Ducks.
But he didnt qualify in vfl games under their criteria (100) for either WCE (57) or Footscray (40)!

I thought Tim Kelly was very unfortunate to be suspended for what was an aggressive tackle, no more, no less.

Kelly gets done because the guy he's tackling keeps fluffing around either the ball, Cotchin doesn't because the man he's tackling has the awareness to put his hands out. Both the same action by the tackler, neither arms pinned yet one gets time and the other doesn't based purely on the actions of someone else.

    Crap system.

Tom Barrass was amazing tonight. Will win the Eagles fairest and best.
Pearce played a ripper at the other end of the ground as well.
Darcy deserved winner of the medal. Nic couldn’t get off the ground.

Yep Detto good hard game all around.
Just hope no lingering injuries as a result.

Don't worry about injuries FD...I think the last cup we won we lost NicNat, Gaff and Shepherd during the campaign...

When your in the finals, injuries create potentially once in a lifetime opportunities for someone

Speaking of Gaff….can’t get out of his own way at the moment.
Been injured all year and Homer keeps playing him. Doesn’t make sense.

Got vey frustrated last night with Eagles tactics. Hurn electing to kick short sideways after a behind was scored. Hurn has 15m in front of him and can then kick accurately 50 m. Why give it to an inferior kicker and lock ourselves to one side of the ground ?~X(

in terms of Gaff's form, you can also add Redden to that list. Had a horrid year and last night put it on display way too often.

Not sure how many they can move on, but there are several they'll keep that they shouldn't have!!!

Nelson, hough, gaff, Edwards…. Should all be looking for new jobs.
  • detonatordetonator    4,360 posts
Harry Edwards won’t get a game if both Barrass and McGovern are fit. Bazzo will play that midsize tall 3rd defender. Hough is worth persevering with.
Is there a spot for a Nelson being a bonafide tagger like he did last night ? Homer said taggers upset team balance ???? Reckon Brayshaw running free upsets our team balance.
Gaff 100% injured. Needs to get right over the summer otherwise we will ask a 4th round pick for him.

Nelson , Edwards, Rotham, Waterman, Langdon, Nic Nat, Duggan, Cripps, Petrucelle, and if Willie wants to go then happy to move him on.

My problem is you cant get rid of that many in any one season...Otherwise the rebuild could be years to settle into intelligent footy.

Nelson, Edwards, Rotham, Langdon definitely need to go.
Waterman and Duggan will get picked up by other teams if they are let go
Nic Nat and Cripps kept on for another year due to their experience.

Then you look at this group, who havent been seen often enough this season to be rated from the outside..
Patrick Naish, Tom Cole, Luke Foley,

Plus you can add to that players who want to leave???

I dont think they can get rid of all those, they'd like to. So the next 4 weeks could see one of our biggest clean outs ever, or a soft approach that is an even bigger risk IMO!!!!!
  • freodockersfreodockers    2,667 posts
Why wouldn’t they retire Nic Nat and keep him as ruck mentor/coach.
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see he can’t run or mark anymore.
Understand he’s been injured but wouldn’t it be better to replace him all together with a developing ruckman.
Having said that he has been a champion of the game, probably the most unlucky Eagle ever and would deserve a decent send off, which can’t happen this year.
  • detonatordetonator    4,360 posts
Nic needs to lose weight and get a pre season under his belt. Missed a big chunk of this season because of injury. Never write off a champion……love Detto xxx :x

If you look at WC list on paper they are top 8 side.
They have been smashed by injuries this year.
Since 2020 they have had some underlying issues what they are who knows.
If they can get a full, fit list next year they certainly won’t be an easy beat.
Essendon, Port, Bulldogs all the same this year.

I have just read one of the most ridiculous comments by a reporter ever.
    Re Freo finishing top 4.
They will be relying on either Melbourne or Brisbane to lose who are playing each other.
    Mmmmmmm.

Geez the Eagles salaries listed in the paper were an eye opener  @-)
    Gaff on 900k...wtf.
Reckon Tommy Barrass will have his hand out at the end of the season. Does making the All Australian team automatically add 100-200k to your package ?
I am sure Gaff will hand him some of his wage out of GUILT. Haha

If the Eagles can find a running game, Gaff will be worth all of that and more.

Yeo off halfback, helping out Jones, to link up with the hard running Gaff on one side and the inexperienced Hough on the other side, or going through the middle with Chesser, Trew using their speed to do the work Sguey tells them too. Linking up with Allen, Darling, Liam and Willie if hes still there.

They'll be okay..and that is without anyone they get in the draft!!!!

They've shown enough to me, to stick with my prediction from months ago...Finish somewhere in the top half of the bottom of the ladder

Gaff should have retired with JK...
awful skills, slow... $900k wow. He should pay half of that to North's for wanting him a few seasons back.

AFLW GF now finds a permanent home at Marvel.
Too hard to organise at interstate venues.
    What’s the bet it’s a 20 yr contract.
Just another kick in the guts for interstate clubs.
