    GP Today.
R1 No5 PRINCESS MICKAYLA I really liked the look of first up, happy to back on a 1by4basis at the roughly $24/4.

R2 No3 Jilliby Jake. Think back to this grade he can run a real race from the breeze, even have a crack at cross the 1 earyl - it is a grade drop for Seven No Trumps but i feel like it is going awful.

R6 No6 SUKHOVEY WINDSTORM I liked the effort first up, 50/1 plus will have a few dollars on.

I can remember Chagemar ( if that is the correct spelling ) it was quite a talented little horse

Murphy had another horse many many  years back called Earthquake McGoon , do you remember that horse

Ducked into a TAB in Sydney one Sat , 2050 metre race at M/Valley , stood a horse out called Reputed in a tri 5 times to beat E/M and another horse ( forgotten its name )

On the home turn Reputed and E/M were level , 5 lengths ahead of my  3RD horse , and then 5 lengths to the rest of the field , Reputed had the cosiest/easiest dream pegs run and  was as weak as pisss in the home straight wanted to give up about 3 times  but still prevailed by a head , where as Earthquake McGoon ( from a wide gate ) was 3-4 wide the whole trip , it should have won by 6-8 lengths , the blast Murphy would have given that jockey after the race would have been legendary , arms waving the whole lot.

Was legendary trainer, would have sacked at least 15 jockeys had alot big race success, but had alot bad luck in big races as your Earthquake Mc goon , story but did have the title --The Walking Chemist .

Back to trotting the recent passing of Dick Lee he had a beauty in Rufus Young Blood who was Australian pacer of the year 1987 won four derbies

R.Y.B. still trying to get out in the Golden Nugget climbing all over Our Masetro to run second

Dick Lee was a master with trotters trained winners all over the world One trip returned to Australia with Stallion Hermes who sired Melb Cup winner Van Der Hum..

I see Vic harness could be saved , property developer has offered $90 million for 30 acres of the Melton site which would wipe out their debt to the Vic state govt , leaving 67 acres for Vic Trots , which they think would be still worth close to $100 million

Where as 2 mths back the Vic Govt wanted the Trots to hand back to them all the Melton land to wipe out their 90 mill debt

They are in a terrible situation currently , their CEO says every trots meeting they run loses 45k - they are cutting their low basic stakes of 4.5k to 4k ( that is a SA Trots type move .) The time honoured AG Hunter Cup slashed from 500k to 350k , and other feature races will be also  cut to save 1 mill . Plus the Vic bred bonus in some instances cut from 12k to 5k

Harness racing when showgrounds and MooneeValley was in operation they needed 12,500 spectators per meeting not to run at loss due to costs they had another area of land, which just disappeared .
That's why if G P. Has to go the lot or nothing, skimming the cream and pay 2 million per year for five years for something that's worth 90 million go plait your human excrement, if you believe it's the best thing for Harness racing in W A

    Found---- Victorian Trotting Control Board.
Middle 1974 TCB bought 86.51 hectares (218acres) .of rural zoned land for at Keysborough 30 kilometres south of Melb for
    outlay 1.45 million.

By November 1974 the government approved of additional 30 metropolitan meetings at the Future Keysborough.

November 1979 Victorian metropolitan trotting faced the following problems.

Number of meetings limited because opposition from residents and the Essendon City Council.

The TCB held only 55 of its possible 73 metro meetings 43 at M Valley 12 showgrounds.

Total rent was 330,000 a year --270,000 to Moonee Valley racecourse 60k, for showgrounds.

The Keysborough project was now estimated to cost 13.9million after loan repayments and interest charges.
Some considered that this project would bankrupt Victorian harness.Others said trotting mustn't be subservient to a race club or the showgrounds and must build Keysborough for the future of trotting.

Never got off the ground was 22klms closer to city then melton.
Melton was 46 million to setup. Believe the land at keysborough was sold at loss. W.A harness seem to be heading for carbon copy

The partial sell off has all the hallmarks of a survival mechanism for a crumbling unmaintained, patronless venue, it is an equally flawed plan that leaves us still with an inaccessible 800m track with a comfortable lounge/pavilion for the few hundred remaining members to stare into the sun.

Those who know about real estate values say the price is a million miles away from reality. Those running the show say otherwise.

But raise an objection to the WATA wagging the tail of the Harness Racing Industry dog, and boy, stand back for the poisonous invective, propaganda and labeling. Defence mechanisms spring into action, "we are the centre of the harness universe, we actually still run the show and don't forget it, the 2003 Legislation was just a blip, all you other minions get in line".

your right what are we doing in this day in age , with the times horses are running , racing on 800m or less tracks , welfare of the horses must come into it

Another upbeat article by Ernie today that will drag mums and dads to the trots or races and ensure plenty of young people join the game.
Real shame after Hayden kings great article the other day.

Well that’s not true at all, after stewie won the oaks there was direct quotes from him in the article and he never spoke to Ernie or anyone from the west

The on course interviews are relayed directly to the GP office via a TV which Ken Casellas and Ernie watch assiduously immediately after the race and upon which they base a majority of their reports. It is an open and public information feed which assists reporters in overcoming the reluctance of some in the Industry who refuse to return calls from the media. Suggesting that only "face to face interviews" can form the basis of any article in a paper is frankly absurd.

In addition, to suggest he shouldn't report on a publicly released positive swab analysis in a major $100k race, at a hugely attended marquee meeting with very high turnover, after a horse wins with the authority that Vevinsky did is, I would suggest, depriving the public and punters of essential information. Are the public not entitled to such information? Should Ernie also not be reporting on Peter Walsh and Amelias Jewell's prospects (page 5) in the King Charles race on Saturday?

I respectfully strongly disagree that reports of these alleged positives and other transgressions as released by RWWA Stewards should be repressed.

You old fellas are mates with Ernie so understandably you stick up for him,
His article today also brought up AGAIN the race that was investigated up north…..said race and jockey were investigated with nothing found so absolutely no reason to print it again.

Ageist insults are fairly common on here, so sorry for living so long. It is a very, very cheap form of debate and devalues your contribution..

I will accept that the re-hashing of the previous investigation was not warranted, the only common thread was the rider.

However, being "mates" or otherwise is irrelevant because without transparent integrity, we have no Industry full stop, no matter whether it is Ernie writing it or someone of more youthful origins.

Not an ageist attack, apologies if that’s how you took it.
My annoyance is that an industry that I’ve grown up in/around already is on the way out it doesn’t need any help from people continually writing about the negatives of the industry.
As I’ve stated before I’ve spoken with participants of these industries who have far bigger names than I do in horse racing and they are of the same opinion.

It’s a well known fact among participants that things are quoted in the paper that have never been said in any form.
Surely Warren would know, such a succesful long standing man in the industry would have had many published articles of his decorated career

Ivory Trunkey 100 percent right there was no-need to bring up,Sardelic ride on Yankee Lima ,purely because it was owned by K.C Tom Percy, would be the reason.

Remember witnessing altercation between Journalist & Trainer Driver --Bunbury round. late seventies, when punters didn't have much to go,

This driver before the race colours on made beeline for Journo. calling him every effinney. c

Yelling out every punter from Kununurra to Esperance has backed this because of you the journo was Greg Denham.
