Starting on Time

West Australian Racing
How about a new rule, it will sound harsh to many but will get races running on time.
Very simple , rear gates are closed at start time.
If you are not in, you are a scratching, minor fine and no riding fee to the jockey.
Deductions apply.
Cant get much simpler.

Horses that will not load should be an automatic 2 trial penalty and not passed unless the barrier staff are not forced to load it, put onus back on trainer to educate them.

Think your rationale is a bit over the top, but it seems far too many Jockeys hang well back , if they don't move up under orders fine them.

Why is the rope across like in Singapore not used so horses cannot wander 50m behind the gates.

WA racing continually jumps late for many reasons, Late onto track, Late to start loading, slow loading, inexperienced Barrier staff (in country), and a myriad of other reasons. Not saying WA is the only one, but very noticable to me, as that is what I follow

it's not the jockeys fault they run late, have also noticed WA is the only state in Australia that has female barrier attendants

Just close betting at advertised starting time. Pools seem to swell quite a bit in the moments between AST and the actual jump. Greyhounds Australia wide and WA gallops seem to be the main culprits. Shut down the pools and switch them to Sky2 and watch things change ;)

My pet hate when there is only a couple to load and they keep walking them around in circles

Yep it shits me big time especially if i have one that has been loaded early getting sweaty and heating up. Its a definite advantage to hold back in summer imho.

Maybe they should load in barrier order, if you are lucky to draw inside, then you get the short straw on loading order. Bet if this was implemented, there would be a worn path to the Stewards draw with trainers trying for an out to get their horses loaded last

I thought they loaded (if there is 14 runners) 1 and 8 1st to go in 2 and 9 next and so on
