Eight year old mare Bonsu into the money again - she's had 147 starts. Steps away reliably from the stand , has little or no sprint but thanks to Chris Lewis giving her a easier run as possible she has lobbed into third spot again. Won't go down as a name to remember but she's been a good little earner running many placings.

$12 winner, $37 winner, $61 winner...to go with a few odds on jobs...continues Friday Nights trend but in reality, I don't mind all that much with some of the not so regular winners getting a piece of the pie...finding a winner is hard work at the moment.....must be something in the water.

Every chance yesterday...normal good beginning , behind leader , looked a good chance of third , Lewis did everything possible , she just couldn't get her legs going fast enough , had a look at her down the back straight after the finish...still going the same pace haha and looked as if she was enjoying herself out there. She's a gem.

I thought she may have held onto 3rd yesterday if Chris had followed the helmet of Bettor Not Knowing and used the sprint lane late rather than coming off the pegs and leaving her exposed all the way down the straight.

But as you said loves the stand and can follow pace.

Was in Perth doing some sorting and wandered along to GP Tuesday Arvo/Evening. Sat and chatted to Peter Marsh (Bonsu),  he was wrapped to hear that his little horse had a following on PTT. Don't think he is tech savy but gave hime the website and explained that PTT was a forum and that a few old farts try to kick along a bit of interest. He had no idea it existed. He owns the whole family, bred the mother (also a decent winner) and little Bonsu has banked $87k with 10 wins and 40 placings from about 100 starts and he loves the horse. Tried to talk him into going to Collie for the Cup but will probably handicapped out of contention as it is a C2 race. Nice fellow.
Couple of very nice efforts...Challenging presented magnificently in the birdcage, best of the night, and raced accordingly. Plati was a classic drive from SJS.....stormed home to win well after an earlier win on Artistic Lillie, also All Williams, a horse I have always liked but hard to catch but he raced well and won well. Last race was a bit strange and on ongoing QDT for Cams Resurgence and Turquia...anyway, a cool breeze, very pleasant after the stifling humidity I experienced in the CBD all day.

Was hoping to win favourite numbers or lotto and put in an offer to buy Bonsu , she looks to a have real character , not that she would be a big cost , but obviously to Peter Marsh she's priceless and rightly so. Great the way she just runs at the one bat the whole journey. She compensates for that by being a safe beginner and having some stamina. When up to four or five are galloping wildly away she just potters along behind the leader either lobs there or hands up immediately. From there she hardly moves and into the straight always giving her best even though she can't go any faster!

I'm going good to get in early lads, I think she wins (Bonsall that is) Monday at Pinjarra. Take the all up with Free To Air.

Put a bit aside for these two on the Monday.

Lucky Khalif would have been in his element with results like that.

Think only a place chance today..she needs to step well and normally does , best place prospects are if she can do that and hand up to Better Not Knowing or one of the better chances , unless she get leaders back maybe a struggle but if she can sit on one of the hopes a place chance beckons.

Probably her worst run for a while. Thankfully a little on Free to Air for a small win on the day.

After the fave missed the start and she finished three back it was game over...needed the fave to get their first and not James Victor. Very good drive James Victor he knew Bonsu would immediately hand up. She can't go any faster though and had every chance. 4th is better than 5th!

The little girl was back in the placings again at Pinjarra today...stepped away perfectly to lead...then the race was on between the other chances to see who could get to her first first for her to hand up..today it was Buhn Lert a good horse to sit on..took her to the sprint lane and home for second placing she came.

They are on to you Riders, just $2.00 the place at Pinjarra today. The winner Aurelius was a very good run in the Collie Cup...... breezed, dragged a flat tyre, then lead and still ran 3rd behind Tommy Smith.

Yes and she actually opened tab fixed odds favourite at about $4.80 before drifting to $7 and $2.40 a place. One thing that Bonsu dosen't need is to win one of these races and go back 10 metres! The strength of Bonsu is to earn place cheques which she does with regularity. She's a gem but as far as the tab opening her as the favourite...goodness gracious.

Yep, a beneficiary of the handicap system that has enabled her to win 10 races and $90k in stakes and be classified as a C2.....albeit over a long period of time....courtesy of the drop back rule. Good placement by the connections who probably haven't in any sense got rich but have had a good time and are happy participants in the industry. So, pro's and cons of the system I guess. Still, I am not looking forward to the winner of next weeks Derby fronting up in a C0 and better at Pinjarra in a couple of months time.

    This thread has grown legs

Trent Coopers write up ( form wise/chances) about Bonsu in yesterdays West Australian  - fair dinkum i thought he was talking about Cardigan Bay
  • Ridersonthestorm33Ridersonthestorm33    10,809 posts
Haha..good judge Trent. After she retires the final race of the day should be renamed the Bonsu Handicap.
  • JayJayJayJay    7,628 posts
Haha Marko..slight exaggeration. .isn't that the joy of this forum? I reckon its okay for that to happen....beats the hell out of ;osing the will to live waiting for the West to write up something about battlersville.

Bless her heart. What a gem...perfect drive...up the straight tonight even though she can't go much faster she knuckled down and got her eleventh victory. If ever you can see a horse trying to do its best it's her.

She had her 159th start today , 60th at Pinjarra and ran a slashing race - that was a career 30th third placing. Thirty times running third - that's a lot. Apparently she travels to Pinjarra on her own she knows the way there and home again.

One day saw her and swear she was running the same pace and style a few hundred metres after the finish line. Just wants to compete and keep running. Nearly nine years old and racing with gusto. To think no standing starts would mean no Bonsu. More's the pity. ( She's a perfect advertisement as to why standing starts should remain ).

She was a handy fourth today..got caught up behind the tiring Lampard which probably cost her running another third. The secret for her is to hand up to one of the main hopes or a horse that will at least take her to the sprint lane. It's not easy because every driver in the race knows she will hand up.

Just superb today - a terrific third at double figure odds - unfortunately got caught up behind the tiring Bettors Ace but Aldo Cortopassi extricated from the pocket with skill. $3.50 a drum from the one - bless you little girl. Now 165 starts 11 wins , 15 seconds and a lazy 31 thirds.

She's not hard to "extricate" Riders, she'd be all of about 12 and a half hands. She could probably run between their legs without them noticing.

Thanks VK missed that one today..will do a couple of little sums on her later! About 6 months or so ago thought well she's probably come to the end of her tether, but she's resilient and bounced back almost immediately.

Calculation was curious about was when this thread began in Feb 2017 she was at start number 147 and today she had her 182nd run..wonder what her stats have been in the 35 runs in between. Think would find quite serviceable.
  • JayJayJayJay    7,628 posts
Last 35 runs produced 2 wins, 7 seconds, 8 thirds and 18 unplaced runs (albeit a number of those unplaced runs 4th's and 5th's which all contribute to paying the feed bill.
