    Ferrari looking very strong.
    Mercedes is Mercedes.
Red Bull / Renault have been sand bagging all testing, so who knows.
McLaren / Honda are in more trouble than the early settlers.

Now we know they weren't really sand bagging, they're simply not fast enough at this stage, although admittedly Red Bull haven't started off well in any of the past four years, so I won't dismiss them yet. But after the top three teams, it's daylight till the next group.

F1 in China and MotoGP in Argentina this weekend.

In the Qatar MotoGP, Maverick Vinales became only the fifth rider in the MotoGP era (2002-onwards) to win a race for two different manufacturers (Suzuki, Yahama).

The other four are Valentino Rossi (Honda, Yahama), Max Biaggi (Yahama, Honda), Casey Stoner (Ducati, Honda) and Andrea Dovizioso (Honda, Ducati).

It will be interesting to see how much Lorenzo can improve from his Qatar performance. He only started 12th and finished 11th, some 20s behind teammate Dovizioso.

Didn't get any better in Argentina, he only qualified 16th and after making a good start, tangled with Iannone at the first corner and crashed out.

A Yahama 1-2 with Vinales winning again. With both the Repsol Hondas and Dovizioso crashing out, the two Yahama riders have a nice lead in the championship after two races. Also, a second successive top-10 finish for Jack Miller.

    STANDINGS
    Vinales 50, Rossi 36, Dovizioso 20, Miller (7th) 15, Marquez (8th) 13, Pedrosa (=10th) 11, Lorenzo (=18th) 5.

Alonso is going to miss the Monaco GP and race in the Indy 500 instead in a joint operation with McLaren and Andretti Autosport.

A Ferrari 1-2 in qualifying for Russian GP tonight (8pm WST), their first front row lockout in nine years (France 2008).

MotoGP: Amazing to think with Pedrosa's win tonight in Jerez, that makes it the 16th consecutive year he has won a race in GP racing (2002-2003 125cc; 2004-2005 250cc; 2006-2017 MotoGP). Not even Rossi can claim a record like that after his two unsuccessful years with Ducati (15 years, 1996-1997 125cc; 1998-1999 250cc; 2000-2001 500cc; 2002-2010 MotoGP).

After qualifying a pretty respectable fifth and leading for 27 laps, sadly (once again) his Honda engine decided to give up the ghost with 21 laps to go.

Having said that, it probably still would've been more fun than having to start at the back of the grid like Button did after a 15-place grid penalty (after making through to Q3) due to having to change some of the engine components.

For the third year in a row, an ex-F1 driver won the Indy 500, this time it was Takuma Sato. Ironically, his only podium finish in F1 was also at Indianapolis, driving a BAR-Honda in 2004. Five-race veteran Alex Rossi (who drove for Marussia in 2015) won last year and Juan Pablo Montoya won the race in 2015, fifteen years after his first win there in 2000.

    MotoGP
Pedrosa on pole position for tonight's Catalan GP. I know he's Spanish, but it's still interesting how much better he qualifies in Spain than he does at the other circuits these days. Although having said that, his performances this year are an improvement on those from last year.

    Qatar: Qualified 5th, finished 5th
    Argentina: Qualified 5th, DNF
    USA: Qualified 4th, finished 3rd
    Jerez: Pole position, winner
    France: Qualified 13th, finished 3rd
    Italy: Qualified 5th, DNF
    Barcelona: Pole position

    Tonight's grid
R1: Pedrosa (Honda), Lorenzo (Ducati), Petrucci (Ducati)
R2: Marquez (Honda), A.Espargaro (Aprilia), Barbera (Ducati)
R3: Dovizioso (Ducati), Folger (Yahama), Vinales (Yahama)
R4: Bautista (Ducati), Redding (Ducati), Iannone (Suzuki)
R5: Rossi (Yahama), Zarco (Yahama), Miller (Honda)

Totally insane isn't it? With the lap record being an average of 215km/h over 37 miles on public roads with next to no safety features whatsoever, it's no wonder the FIM stopped racing there after 1976.

I don't even know where Azarbaijan is but I stumbled onto the telecast just as it started ...and was transfixed for the next 2 hours. Seemed to be racing around narrow gutted streets of an old castle town but more incidents and drama than a well scripted soap opera. Ricciardo kept his cool, drove the nuts of the thing and won. I'll be watching the next race thats for sure...wherever it is. Have to admit it was great tellie.

After the grid penalties are applied to both the Red Bull drivers, Stroll becomes the youngest driver to start a GP from the front row. With 6 drivers to serve grid penalties (ALO, HUL, PAL, RIC, SAI and VER), VET will start from 6th, VER from 14th and RIC from 17th.

Ricciardo is often starting from a position of disadvantage due to mechanical issues! (Probably Verstappen too but idgaf about him)wtf works on their machines Auto Masters? :D

I also gather he is stuck at Red Bull for a while or what? is it likely their pace will improve anytime soon?

Fine recovery drive by RIC to finish fourth, behind HAM, BOT and VET.

At the presentation the crowd was going nuts for Vettel - he finished 3rd.... if he won im not sure they would have a presentation area left!

One year to go on his contract at Red Bull
Would suggest Ferrari is lining him up by virtue or re-signing RAI for one more year.............but, will he want to go over and be VET's team mate ?
Or more so - will VET want to risk having him there (and possibly upstaging him).

Good point! Cant stand Vet or Hamilton both A grade VVankers.

I follow from afar but i reckon Ricco would? Time for a change!

Would depend a lot on how Ferrari v Red Bull go next season.
On the evidence of last night - Renault are getting their sh!t together, and every chance Red Bull will be the better seat. (ie faster cars than Ferrari).

the interesting one will be McLaren (very good movie btw - worth a watch).
They have very good cars (just a sh!t engine). Plug a half decent motor (Renault) in to them and they could / maybe even should be straight up to and challenging Red Bull.

Then you've got HAM, VET, RIC (and VER) and ALO all in front end cars !
