Cracking 1st race Dovi beat Marquez by literally 1 bike length...Rossi less than a secind back in third. That Zarco can sure ride, led for a long time and with good pace on an inferior bike.

That Zarco can sure ride, led for a long time and with good pace on an inferior bike.

Absolutely agree with you there, especially when you consider he was riding the 2016 Yahama (with some upgrades). It will be interesting to see where Zarco goes in 2019, considering that the Tech 3 team will be switching to KTMs next season.

Fell asleep in front of tv but woke up with 3 laps to go. Hopefully the competition stays like that all season! Great racing.

Absolutely. With a good season this year, there could be plenty of good rides available in 2019. In fact, only six riders have rides locked away for 2019, Vinales and Rossi (Movistar Yahama, both till 2020); Marquez (Repsol Honda, till 2020); Crutchlow (LCR Honda, till 2019); Simeon (Avintia Racing, till 2019) and current Moto2 points leader, Francesco Bagnaia (Pramac, till 2020). Add to that list, Dovizioso, as I doubt he'll be going anywhere (Ducati). Also, with news that Miller's teammate Petrucci won't be riding for Pramac next year, he should at least have that ride as "backup" for 2019.

Throw in the three wins by Stoner (Indianapolis 2011, Laguna Seca 2011-12) and a couple by Pedrosa (Indianapolis 2010 and 2012) and Honda have now won the last 15 MotoGPs in USA. Lorenzo was the last non-Honda rider to win a MotoGP in US (2010 Laguna Seca, Yahama).

In regards to the most consecutive 500cc/MotoGPs wins at the same venue, Giacomo Agostini won 9 500cc races in a row at Imatra, Finland (1965-73), 8 500cc races in a row at Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium (1966-73) and 6 500cc races in a row at Sachsenring, Germany (1967-72). He also won 6 500cc races in a row in West Germany (1967-72), but they alternated each year between Hockenheim and Nurburgring.

Valentino Rossi won 7 MotoGPs in a row at Mugello, Italy (2002-08). Mick Doohan won 6 500cc races in a row at Mugello (1993-98). Casey Stoner won 6 MotoGPs in a row at Phillip Island (2007-12). Marc Marquez has now won all six MotoGPs at Austin (2013-18) and has won all five MotoGPs he has raced at the Sachsenring (2013-17).

Marquez gets his ninth consecutive pole position at Sachsenring (sixth in MotoGP).

In other news, Pedrosa announced during the week that he's retiring from MotoGP at the end of the season. Equal eighth all-time with 31 500cc/MotoGP wins (most wins by a rider not to win a 500cc/MotoGP championship) and equal seventh all-time with 54 Grand Prix wins (inc. 8 125cc and 15 250cc wins). Also holds the record as the only rider to win a Grand Prix in 16 consecutive seasons (2002-17).

Just an update on the 2019 line-ups, with Marc VDS announcing recently that they won't be racing in MotoGP next year, Franco Morbidelli has signed with the SIC Racing team. He will be joined by Frenchman Fabio Quartararo, who is currently racing in Moto2 (sitting 9th in the championship). Cal Crutchlow has signed a one-year extension with Honda, until the end of the 2020 season. After a poor season, apparently there is no certainty now that Simeon will keep his ride with Avintia.
