Some blasts from the past have the race's been named after tonight - some beauties there too - all great competitors for the Elliott family. Just can't beat that name - StumpyGullyRoad.

Looks a tough old meeting at Burwood Park but that's nothing new.
Time to re-launch into a quaddie and see how far we get.

Race 5.
1. Seven Demerits 2. Illusionation 8. Murphy's Bettor 10. All Williams

Race 6.
1. Heez About To Rock 2. Another Ajay 3. Parisian Partygirl 10. Dreamy Nights

Race 7.
1. Regal Ambition 4. All Over Tan 5. Renacentrez 7. Lil China Doll 9. Oh What A Night

Race 8. We"ll put all the pressure on JJ and S. Suvaljko to bring home the bacon - 7. Cut Above.

That's 4 x 4 x 5 x 1 = $80 for 100% - so will invest $20 for 25%. A moral to be knocked out early or all favourites - or both!

+1 -1

Yes did see them clash the other week, wasn't much between the three of them.

Two 25/1 chance's wouldn't leave out of trifecta/first four betting on the final leg #2. Raymond Alexander - needs a very soft run - might get it and has been battling away a bit better lately.

Also #10. Mr Tom Dooley he can do the Harlem Shuffle when stepping away but a clean start could see him figure at long odds.

An interesting trio drawn 1,2,3 in the second leg of quaddie - got a few Easter eggs next to their names and long telephone numbers without a 1 but wouldn't be surprised if one of them topples the fave who will be the one they all have to beat.
    1. Heez About To Rock could be the big improver with Mark Reed to drive.
    2. Another Ajay - Shannon Suvaljko back in some good form lately.
    3. Parisian Partygirl she ran good races in reasonable GP events previous campaign.

Will either be storming home or paddling - saw him run a bit unlucky close up fourth at a GP midweek recently - race 7. #9. Oh What A Night. He's out of Adayspay a favourite mare of mine. If he could get a smidgin of her ability tonight would be winning.

Renacentrez another interesting runner back from a spell.

Small e/w on All Williams e/w at the $26 - its got Shannon - its racing well - but Boy - Northam - its a tough tough track to win from the 2nd line

Luke Edwards - won the1st 2 races  - hes got something later on in the night - tight in the market - he might get a treble - someone was bagging him not long ago

Good on Peter Tilbrook - hes got a good sized team at the moment - plenty stable acquisitions of late

Ben Yole - down in Tassie - fair dinkum about 40 starters in Hobart  last night - didnt win a single race - had about 6-7 unplaced runners in every race - Sat morning it would be like a hangover

Good one Marko threw in All Williams, hope you're onto something..see Suvaljko on another ten runner in race 7 but didn't put that one in - Jailbreak, had some ability early days but been unsighted for awhile.

Luke Edwards now 3/3. Village Benny am sure showed good ability as a two year old when Suvaljko drove winning midweek GP before running unplaced in a big two year old final at big odds.

Check out the tote win dividend on Affluent Bell - they went close too. Much improved that horse and a lot stronger. Good effort by the winner too.

Those three drawn 1-3 all sacked on the spot. He is rising 11 though Another Arjay, he's done well.

How was the smart thinking pegs drive by Suvaljko on Jailbreak from gate ten. Nearly pinched third.

Rapt to be alive in the quaddie - could pay anything - so far it's been favourite - favourite - favourite. Need four favourites in a row to get 25% of $40 for a $10 loss haha.

Will need everything to go right Cut Above and a good drive. It's short enough with the books. There's a few chances.

The way he got that horse off the mark, not many do it as consistently. Rated then to perfection.

    Quaddie four favourites - $39.90.

It's great when horses improve - just five or six runs ago when expecting Raymond Alexander to drop out he kept on battling away - was a bit of shock - then a couple of other good efforts - once after an uncharacteristic gallop away.

Looked gone tonight but much stronger now ( in comparison to how he was ) and had a feeling would fight on, him and Afflluent Bell earlier, much improved couple.

Bit of credit to the trainer Riders, I had 2 standing start runners over the weekend, one from 50m and one from 30m. Both stepped like birds, one ran 2nd, the other saluted. Neither are champions in any sense of the word and they were low class country races but their manners at the barrier puts them in with a great show. That said, SJS could probably have stepped Mount Eden cleanly, best stand driver in WA. Cut Above has had 6 standing starts for 5 wins and a 2nd. And I don't want to open old wounds about "thorny" issues but for feature stands, I would like to see stand form play a bigger role in field selection as a matter of policy. I think Cut Above has highlighted the frailty of the whole very forgettable saga of the Race For The Roses.

To finish on a positive on "Eric Elliott" night, he was a Steele Rudd "Dad N Dave" type character, said with the greatest of respect. He and Shirl were absolute characters with their quirkily named horses and their is one story that still causes me to smile broadly whenever I think of Eric. One night, Eric had a starter at about 66/1 in a metro race. A leading and big betting stable also had one in the same race and it was backed off the boards, from the horses mouth, they had over $20 grand on it. They thought it was a certainty and backed it accordingly. Turning for home, it was well clear, the driver was smiling counting the cash when right down the outside, the black and gold Elliott colours came storming home and bloused out the fav on the line. Normally, the drivers have a chat as the pull up, this night, not a word exchanged....the vanquished driver was feeling distinctly nauseous, Eric sitting up quietly with a mild grin. As the turned around to return to scale, Eric leaned over and very quietly said "You know mate, I never had a penny on mine, did you have anything on yours?" That was the fuse that lit the bomb, Eric was told to go forth and multiply as he chuckled away as he returned to scale. 15 minutes later, the vanquished apologised to the victor and all was good. They remained great mates thereafter. Terrific bloke Eric, astute and possessed the driest of dry sense of humour that you can only pick up from years in the shearing shed.

Congrats to the Padberg stable at Northam last night with 5 winners.
A superb effort from a relatively small stable.

Billy Conda and Billy Two Hats were 2 very smart pacers for Eric Elliott in the 1980s and won a number of races in town at GP or RR.

Billy Conda won a country derby without a check think billy conda's year or billy two hats year it was either the north eastern derby heat or may have been country derby final 1,2,3 finished up handy horses of that era.

Eric loved the Country Derby and the atmosphere surrounding it...In 1979, the rather unfashionably bred Billy Conda beat Jock Coleman's  pacing royalty in Double Dainty (out of Dainty's Daughter) and Bill Whitfield"s Whilaway (brother to Ramon Adios by Bill's good sire Express Adios) and in 1986, Billy Two Hats ran 3rd to Swanky Lobell (Terry OBrien) and Trunkey Jaguar (John Graham), both of whom boasted smart bloodlines and great racing records. Billy Conda was by Colin Campbell's Silk Byrd stallion Poplar Hall, and with 17 wins, $67k in stakes and a 1.59.4 LTR, Billy was clearly the best of his 5 lifetime winners. And Billy Two Hats was by Spring Run out of Billy's Sister and had 14 wins, $60k in stakes and a 1.58.6 LTR. Doffing both my hats to Eric today.
