When Our Maori Boy had gathered no wins from forty four starts and traversed to Collie after an unplaced effort at Northam to run in another Maiden, hopes might have been optimistic that the drought may break, Collie maidens are not the strongest, however not to be - a close up second and another placing notched up, but no elusive win.
Then all roads led to York for start 46 - no not this time either, and into to third place . Now he'd been everywhere man, breathed the mountain air and looked forever to remain by what's known in the racing game by punter's - a non-winner.
Next run was at York again and this time back up to 1920 metres, after all his dad Blackfriars was a Group One Flemington VRC Derby winner but unfortunately a well beaten 9th and staying wasn't his caper, but perhaps staying a maiden was.
Soon afterwards came start number 50 - and just like a cricketer making half a century Our Maori Boy was eager to raise his bat and salute, and just like a good digger when the chips are down he came through on Anzac Day 2019, and for those that had waited so long his SP odds of $5.50 might have been a bit short, but he's more than made up for that in spades by winning at his following two starts at $11 and $17.
For the record.
Our Maori Boy - start 49 - remains a maiden.
Start 50 - win Kalgoorlie 9/2.
Start 51 - win Kalgoorlie 10/1.
Start 52 - win Kalgoorlie 16/1.

If you'd backed him at Collie that day, lucks a fortune!
When horses improve and hold there form it's good to see.

In NSW Linda Kropp and Victoria Sally Wynn just to name a few but there weren't many for years and years. Clare Lindop another later one who inspired through her Group One Derby win on a 100/1 pop.
Sally Wynn in Victoria think was related to Keith Wynn a ripper fearless hurdle jockey.
I backed him in Collie that day and had a very large collect coming up on him. Also told anyone that would listen on track he was my best of the day.
Farken missed the kick by 4 and was beaten less than a neck that day.

He was the butt of stable jokes, went on to earn $437,000 in today's terms millions and millions.
