I know it's set weights and penalties but gee it looks like a random allocation of weights. Couldn't begin to tell you how it's worked out

Come play with me has worked through the grades nicely but surely its just a matter of by how far for gatting in that field.

can only beat what's in front of you though! gotta respect a horse in a staying race like this with a picket fence next to it's name like this one has especially from the AD yard

Gatting will have to watch out for I’m A Love Man.(ha ha)
Rated 49 POINTS below and only receives 3.5kg
Why do the powers to be allow such horses to be accepted into races like this.

Nobody would complain if Media Baron were in the race. I'm A Love Man would be meeting Media Baron just 2.5kg worse for being beaten 0.4L by it 2 starts back.
Thoroughly deserving of its place in the field
    ;)

I purchased I'm a Love Man originally as a weanling for Dan & Julie Love. Sadly he got hit by a car on Gt Eastern Hwy when being transferred from the farm to the breakers, so the fact that he is even alive is a miracle. He was a standout weanling, beautifully bred. That same day I also purchased for them Big Caroline and Prentice, both of whom had moderate success, but make no mistake, this Colt was the best of three.

Does he go to the front and bust them right open in the back straight? Thats what i would be interested to see. Could be a tear away leader here.

Sixth to tenth $1000 stake money - might even run myself.
It's a pity though they just can't get the bigger field with the good horses, there's just not that depth.

If Not Again Ken runs 1, 2, 3 I'll do 10 push ups in front of the winning post.
Considering my average is zero, that'll be a challenge!

Actually after perusing the field make that 1,2.
The top 2 should be the easiest quinella since Labor/Liberal.

Bet365 has Gatting 100/1 for the Cox Plate which at least is more preferable than the 50/1 they have about Galaxy Star 8-|

I think they'd rather have that than not enough acceptors and have to cancel the race

Better than 5 or 4 runners like last weeks joke?

You do to be careful sometimes with the 'can't possibly win' quote with horse's...it's worse than trying to tip them...many would recall the old Hurlingham Tab just off Canning Highway...recall a Saturday arvo mid to late 90's dropped in and the boys were hovered around the form guide on the wall for the Belmont distance race... knew a few of them liked to back roughies so off I went with "well there's one roughie you don't have to worry about its fair dinkum useless, worse than any plodder going around."

For the life of me can't remember it's name, on the tip of the tongue but won't come, it was a deceiver of a stayer, but by now was totally convinced it was just no good, anyway with all bets on, they jump away and by the time got to about the furlong could see this thing looming up, I might be in a wee bit of trouble here.

Coming closer to the line, make that a lot of trouble, the knock horse gets up and wins at 25/1, their was complete silence then all the heads turned around looking for one person, the best way to describe it was like the natives chasing Indiana Jones, as I made a hasty retreat out the door!

It's bad enough knocking a favourite that wins but to pick on a 25/1 chance and see it win...that's the dizzy limit.

There are too many of these SWP races. They are fudged to favour certain horses. They'd be better off with 86+ quality handicaps where top weight was maximum 61kg

This race has been put on the map. Two Group One winners within 3 months! See it but don't believe it!

The Magnificent 7 that helped reshape the record books! Well two of them anyway.

First Come Play With Me - goes into to win Group One Metropolitan - Royal Randwick.
Second Gatting - picks up Group One Makybe Diva - Headquarters Flemington.

Third Eye Art - she has since run second and tenth.
Fourth Mr Alby - he came out and won his following start ( what a good thing! ) but next four runs 13th, 5th, 4th and 9th.

Fifth I'm A Love Man has done very little since, four unplaced runs until running second at Toodyay recently. Entered for York this week.

6th Inject The Venom - struggled since until running a slashing 4th at 25/1 in the Kalgoorlie Cup.
7th Not Again Ken - the ghostly grey has since bobbed up for a win in between some miserable form. He ran 15th of 15 at his following run then next start won! Followed up by another two unplaced efforts.

That's the seven - from Group One victories and other wins ( Mr. Alby & Not Again Ken ) to unplaced runs and last placing's to Kalgoorlie and Toodyay!

Also and not surprisingly if see replay, as CPWM and Gatting were crossing the line a few others were barely getting across the 100 metre mark, and CPWM gets over the ground strongly in the win.

Very interesting observation, the race has provided 2 x g1 winners now. Who’d have thought it!

The other WA horse who was handy here, went to Victoria had to go up another notch and did, then suddenly it's in a Caulfield Cup at 50/1 ( shortish odds for a WA horse! ) then goes on and wins it - Boom Time.

Never seen anything like it, Boom Time - Gatting - Black Heart Bart ( at 9yrs. ) - Come Play With Me - three of them win Group Ones at 50/1 and better, CPWM about 10/1.

$1 all up win in round figures $5,202,510 to 1. Yes over 5.2 million to one, would've cashed out after Boom Time!

Can recall a mare from here Celestial Show think her name was, she was a 100/1 when placed in a Caulfield Cup, possibly to Ethereal, but need to look that up, but I gave her zero hope that day. Big run.

The other WA runner up Beaux Art - liked her a lot, she was outstanding. Not forgetting also a Perth horse that was owned by Bob Peters and was backed at massive odds for months leading into the Caulfield Cup and you wouldn't believe it, he's gone down in a photo finish by a nose - Congressman.

Some good stories on the Caulfield Cup - none better than SA horse Alcopop - went from a virtual unknown to winning the Balaclava Cup to about six weeks later runner up in the Caulfield Cup, what the... had a couple of slashing wins in between though.

If they reckon the ( overrated ) lead up run of Yucatan was good then Alcopop was just as impressive.

I don't agree with all of the practice of Race Clubs in retro fitting future results to past performances, because that's mostly who the offenders are with this idea. The race is what it is on the day, if one or more of those horses in subsequent seasons go on to greatness, it means nothing to the original race.

But that is just my opinion.

This may sound abit silly and just theory but this is what reckon about race horses - ok you've got your Sunline, Phar Lap, Black Caviar, Winx, Northerly, Manikato, So You Think etc etc - the true Champions.

At the other end the real battlers - from maidens who'll never break maiden status through to your I'm A Love Man, Mr Alby types. There's a thousand of them.

Now it's the next lot in the middle that interest - on there day ( eg He's A Parker beating CPWM twice ) you could a throw a tea towel over the lot of them.

Explaining why Prince Of Penzance can win a MC at 100/1, Gatting at 100/1 the list is endless, Tears I Cry 100/1 and so on. CPWM to a Metrop win whilst He's A Parker can't fire a shot - yet on his day He's A Parker was excellent and good enough to beat CPWM.

The champs are obvious, the battlers obvious, it's the group in the middle that are very very even.

Which leads to the punt - betting against champions - good luck, took on Vo Rogue one day and am still paying that off, or bet on the champs to win at $1.10 or any odds on quote, worst bet type - backing odds on favourite's - a lot on to win a little.

Or betting on maidens ( done it a million times ) and Mr Alby type races - can specialise in them but good luck just the same.

The best races to bet on - those good horses in the middle - not champions in the true sense of the word, but on there day, are very smart. That's where the value is!
