Since i am a Victorian, and love a long range roughie, and this topic has not been opened. I am having a stab at TE AKAU CALIBURN at $126 .Hence its not guaranteed a start As 76th in entry, but as we know, things change quickly! Gate is not helping this Saturday in Bart Cummings, but if dosnt get caught wide look out, may sneak into final field *-:)
+1 -1

G1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m SWP):
Horses who are nominated for the Caulfield Cup - if they win the Turnbull then they are guaranteed a start in the Caulfield Cup (but not Melbourne Cup) and can not receive a weight penalty for the Caulfield Cup or Melbourne Cup.
Fact: The last horse to win the Turnbull Stakes and Melbourne Cup double was Makybe Diva in 2005.
G3 The Bart Cummings (2520m HCP):
The winner of this race....you are straight into the Melbourne Cup and are guaranteed a start in the big race. Also the winner of The Bart Cummings can be liable for a weight penalty for the Melbourne Cup (and Caulfield Cup), at the discretion of Racing Victoria Chief Handicapper Greg Carpenter.
Fact: The last horse to win The Bart Cummings and Melbourne Cup double was Almandin in 2016. Before Almandin was Brew in 2000 when the race was known as the "Japan Trophy Race"
G1 Metropolitan (2400m HCP): The winner of this race can be liable for a weight penalty for both the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup.
Fact: The last horse to do the Metropolitan and Melbourne Cup double was McDougal in 1959.

The winner can't receive a weight penalty for the Caulfield Cup, plus is guaranteed a start in the Caulfield Cup and is exempt from the Caulfield Cup order of entry/ballot.
However the winner can be liable for a penalty for the Melbourne Cup at the handicappers discretion.

The last horse to do the Herbert Power/Melbourne Cup double was Rogan Josh in 1999 and before that was Arwon in 1978. Prince Of Penzance ran 8th in the Herbert Power in 2015 and won the Melbourne Cup whilst in 2014 Protectionist ran 4th in the Herbert Power and went on to win the Melbourne Cup.

On one tote, either Supertab or NSW Master O'Reilly ran favourite, so if had the late scratchings of Maldivian and Eskiomo Queen, then still alive, but the other tote, if on them then not so good.
Just can't think of the other horse's name that was vying for favouritism with Master O'Reilly.
Some punters very heated about it.
Did see that Master O' Reilly paid $5.20 on Supertab for the win, and Froggy Newitt was on Eskimo Queen.
It was Eskimo Queen. I was All In market at a big price and she was $4. Maldivian scratched I was jumping for joy, then karma kicked in a minite later when they said she was also out
Hot fave Maldivian scratched and Eskimo Queen, but winner Master O Reilly only runs favourite on one of the big totes....on either Supertab or NSW did not run fave - so all tickets with Maldivian and Eskimo Queen were successful on one quaddie, but in the other state were all losers because O'Reilly didn't run fave on their tote.
The difference in quaddie dividends was astronomical - Master O Reilly had good support but add the Madivian and Eskimo Queen money he was running odds on in the Quaddie.
Whereas the other one had either Duoro Valley or Maybe Better favourite, and that divvy was big.
Maldivian was about a 6/4 fave - that's one hell of a lot of quaddie investment either going onto Master O Reilly or not.

Cinque Cento ran last for Peter Moody and Scott Seamer, their was a period around the time Ethereal won both Cups that Seamer rode winner after winner.
Princess Coup 3rd. Not the strongest Caulfied Cup ever, but as they say..."ever tried to win one?"
What also surprised was Danny O'Brien trained the quinella. Definitely his day.
