Just got the RWWA update. They have had a couple of visits to the tracks, and reinforced the need for very strict hygiene requirements to continue.

I reckon the authorities are making it tough to continue. An are checking to make sure that all participants are complying with all the requirements.

However, if we get shut down, it will be very clear why??

Authorities should think about the tax they’ll need from industry post this virus

    Here we go............

    Prizemoney

effective from Monday, 6 April, RV’s contribution to the
prizemoney for all Victorian flat and jumps races will be reduced until further
    notice as follows

Metropolitan – a 20% reduction in prizemoney contribution per
    race; and

Country – a 10% reduction in prizemoney contribution per race
provided that no TAB race is conducted for less than $20,000.

May as well make it 30% so can access the Govt's wage subsidy (have to suffer 30% drop in income to be eligible).

I wonder if there will be changes to handicapping policy to match.
Point being horses that rack up points while earning less $ per win will be at a disadvantage long term.
Can’t get the points nor the $ back...

So does that mean the trainers fees are dropping by 30% as well??
  • RIORIO    14,882 posts
Gee they'd want to have rock solid proof of why they are reducing it. I mean the racing is still on TV and people are all sitting at home to bet to their hearts content.

Most FIFO workers are still working and the big dollar earners in our community are still getting paid!?!?! The drop in turnover on Sports Betting should have no impact on Racing. Or if it did surely it'd be more betting rather than negative turnover!!!!!

I must be missing somethign am i????

    Why?

    Feed costs are not dropping.
    Staff costs are not dropping.
Electricity, water, rent, mortgage, fuel, etc.

Why on earth would training fees drop?

Do you get a cheaper rate if your horse is heading to a York maiden as apposed to a $70k Saturday race?

Turnover is dropping sharply on all meetings. Sports betting is non-existent. The racing industry is propelled by turnover. If turnover dissipates then there has to be ramifications. That is why both NSW and Victoria have already signalled change. We will follow, we have to follow.

anyone complaining about anything in this industry at the moment should just be grateful the powers to be are allowing racing to go ahead albeit with a heap of changes and restrictions we aren't in a position to be critical...

same goes for majority in the mining industry enjoy it while you can and be thankful cause I know I damn sure am and i'll sacrifice or do whatever it takes to ensure both industries tick over as long as possible during this economic collapse we can blame China for!

they might still be training... but are people paying?
I'll guarantee you most trainers will notice their revenue drop by 30%.

what would be the first thing you DIDNT pay for if you lost your job?
  • RIORIO    14,882 posts
But if the return is dropping, surely teh costs have to drop?????

Guys, I'm stirring, being the devils advocate @The_Bull . I have none in work and if i did, I'd be happy they have somewhere to run, even if for a less return than last week..
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
We've had to reduce numbers in work because of the jockeys being quarantined - hence can't get them worked.
    Fixed costs are same.
Hence cost per horse has actually gone up.

Here it is the announcement we’ve all been waiting for -
RWWA will also be reducing prizemoney and associated bonuses by 20% effective from Monday 6 April.
  • Precision1Precision1    544 posts
I haven’t read the RWWA announcement but the Victorian one is saying it’s not due to lost revenue whilst we are still racing more to build a bank to last a while when racing inevitably has to stop.  When explained like that it’s hard to argue with

    Reduced prizemoney ???

Reckon Betfair will be a very popular place.

Expect some very topsy turvey results outside of the listed races.

    B-)
