When will we get to the track ?

West Australian Racing
Interesting to know the views of punters on here as to when we will be able to get back to the races ? Does anybody on here know someone associated with RWWA or State Government who may be planning for the future ? It will be interesting to see what feedback we may get. My personal opinion is we will be lucky to get back before September considering the Belmont racetrack area is quite small.

Spoke with two longterm employees of Crown Casino last night, former work colleagues, and both were convinced the earliest Crown would re-open would be late June but most likely July. One went as far as to say that they would be the last due to the confined nature of gambling rooms no matter the size. I can't see racetracks getting too much of a head start on Crown.

Thanks Damien thats interesting as I feel the races are certainly more open than Crown (as you say) If we can keep the numbers being infected down (near zero now) we may get back sooner than I would have thought

3 actives cases at the moment, next phase is mid June that is 50 people, July is 100+ so maybe we’d be in the 500+ around August if things keep going well?

Would they do it in stages to start off, first up,allowing Owners, and maybe members, but I guess there has bern discussion about it.but to still have racing through it all has been great, not like quite a lot a complete track shutdown.

Agree we have been real lucky, but a day at the track would be nice, didn't know how much I would miss it  :((

What % of young healthy people who have contracted the virus have needed hospitalisation?
If you look at all ages and health conditions, 20% need hospitalisation. So if you lock down and isolate the old and those with pre-existing conditions that put them at risk, you can get on with things. That way the economy doesn't have to shut down and the hospitals won't be overwhelmed.

Issue isn't any crowd member getting the virus, it's the crowd bringing it on course and then staff / jockey etc getting it - which then shuts down the whole industry.
Small price to pay having to watch it on tv (for now) to keep the whole show going.

Racing doesn't need crowds and if you expect the older demographic to say at home well you're just excluding your most loyal customers. The virus lives on surfaces anyway, so forcing the elderly and others who are vulnerable to say at home doesn't eliminate the risk. If you want to open the borders, both domestic and international, expect crowds to be mostly  off limits until a vaccine is found.

I think they should open it up to owners first and then the members. Outside of that does anyone else even go to Belmont?

With owners it should be relatively easy to social distance, but members would find it a bit harder being contained in the members area.

When it comes time for general admin just have a limit of 4 chairs to a table and space the tables 4m apart.

This is going to get silly a vaccine to cover everyone is most probably years away they can surely next month open it up as Bucks said in WA to owners then members then general public which is the only debatable part,
Otherwise what is our plan going forward?

If you can walk around a supermarket you can walk around a racetrack. Rarely a report on people catching the virus this way and if they do over 98% have extremely mild symptoms.

Why is it okay for footballers and China adoring billionaires to travel but not others? Meanwhile businesses not allowed to conduct normal business are haemorrhaging money.

Originally 250k then 150,000 predicted to pass with the virus. Our total is 100 and most of those from cruise ships and aged care homes.

The overreaction and business decimation continues.

I agreed with the initial reaction to see where we were at but right atm there are businesses still closed and I cant work out why?
The only reason I can see is that the govt is paying them to stay closed so why bother opening for an extra couple of hundred dollars maybe this money should have been spent on big projects for the future instead of paying people to stay in their lounge rooms.
The liberals are a joke constantly moaning about the cost of funding for example the NBN then **** this money up the wall.

Sorry Damo but Casinos should be the last as a priority to allow crowds and members, gambling at a casino certainly not considered essential and those staff members in hospitality etc at the crown missing out on work and wages could easily find work elsewhere at other establishments I’d of thought.

All the supermarkets won't get shut down because one checkout chick gets the virus.
    Race tracks / racing would.

@goose The NBN was never about money tho and the Libs should be held to the same standards Labor were in the GFC. Debt & deficit is bad. No exceptions.

Not much point whinging now about the ginormous black hole we're in financially and whose fault it is, the position would be same same if labor had of been the ones doing the overreacting.
I recall they were even spruiking going harder with financial aid.

Infrastructure spending is money well spent @Thunderstruck . Point was made by @goose that the Libs denied giving us a decent NBN becos of cost. Now they're spending like money is free. It's only fair to call them out on their bulllshit.

Get used to this current setup.
Racing will be a non patron attended sport by the end of the decade at the very latest. Specific carnival days the exception, but in a vastly different format.

Fair enough but my point was about consistency. You can't just move the goal posts to suit your argument reagrdless of what the issue is.

Agree political conversation is not appropriate here, it will turn into a sh*t show.  What is a legitimate discussion is if it’s time to open up basically everything.  There’s no community transmission so what’s the risk? Let us in places like the races, you can still keep the participants seperate if you like but Belmont could open up the old car park end down to the winning post. I’m sick of hearing that’s not the medical advice, the medical advice has been wrong the whole way through, they had thousands dead from this thing in WA, where at 8

Why would you say that?  What would be the advantages to race clubs they only need to set up and run a glorified pub tab.

here in the west its almost a "non patron attended sport"..

Exactly right Precision it's time to end the overkill! Within weeks W.A could overturn virtually all its restrictions pretty much.

If we get to a stage where there are 500 people allowed on course for example, it would actually build the demand i reckon... online sales of tickets would be the go and for anyone wanting too go, they'd be raring to go at the time the tickets were released. A bit like AFL finals where there is very limited supply
