Danehills Daughter has Kalgoorlie in sight

Emerging stayer Danehills Daughter is the latest addition to the upcoming Kalgoorlie carnival.

Trainer Stephen Rowe has planned a ‘hit-and-run’ mission for the daughter of Danehill Express.

The XXXX-Gold Kalgoorlie Cup (2300m) has been pencilled in for Danehills Daughter with Rowe opting against running her in the Coolgardie Cup (1760m) and Boulder Cup (2100m).

“She had a strong track gallop last week and I was delighted how she came through it,” Rowe said.

“I will start her off in a 2200m race at Belmont next week.

“My plan is to race her in Perth and miss the better types going to the Coolgardie and Boulder Cup.

“If everything goes according to plan then we will go straight into the Kalgoorlie Cup.”

Rowe enjoyed a successful period in Kalgoorlie four years ago when Barnsley Lad won the Coolgardie Cup and finished a close second to Fanicio in the Boulder Cup.

Since her flashing third over 1600m at Kalgoorlie in June, Danehills Daughter has made rapid improvement with a hat trick of Belmont wins.

Her previous start a month back arguably her most defining when she dug deep and fought on to defeat Scooner when she looked beaten in the straight.

Meanwhile Raquel Mills has not ruled out Our Finest Moment travelling to the goldfields and tackling the Hannans Handicap (1400m).

The Danasinga gelding shot to Hannans prominence after posting a courageous victory when resuming at Belmont last weekend.

Racing first-up after fracturing a cannon bone in January, Our Finest Moment ran on from fourth position to defeat Pinzu by a half-head.

“The Hannans is a consideration, but only if the track will play my way,” Williams said.

“I will err on the side of caution and if they have some rain and the track is fine fettle it is an option.

“Whatever happens he will be improved by the run and his best distance range is definitely 1400m to a mile.

“But at this stage of his comeback I will have to take it on a race by race basis.”

And co-trainers Rob and Todd Harvey are looking ahead towards the Coolgardie Cup with confidence after Wayside’s two excellent runs back this preparation.

The Choisir seven-year-old, a winner of the Geraldton Cup (2100m) and Carnarvon Cup (2000m) last season, is bursting to win a race after copping bad luck.

First-up he raced wide throughout when third to Falcon Crest and last Saturday he got held up before charging home for second behind Properantes.
