The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, Ascot April 11
The Good
Not So Delicate - It looked like William Pike had returned home from a war after the Oaks victory. His two winners were obvious contenders for ride of the day, but I'll give the nod to Resonates as he led and dictated, but was clever enough to stay off the rails.
Welcome Back Stayers - Great to see a 3200m race back at Ascot. Doing form for a 3200m race on a wet track at Ascot was a nightmare, but many pundits are very happy to see this race on the calendar.
Please Hold On - Ask Me Nicely had been knocking on the door for a long time and deserved to break through, in the last 200m many were wondering if he had forgotten how to win but he found the line nicely.
Fantasic Fillies - The fairer sex gave the boys a galloping lesson on Saturday. Delicacy and Keysbrook took care of the 3yos while Showy Chloe belted the younger males.
The Bad
He's Gone Off the Rails - It was pretty obvious early that the rail was NOT the place to be. Adapt please jocks. The number of jockeys that stuck to the rails purely out of habit is an indication of the lack of thinkers in our jockey ranks.
The Ugly
Kalgoorlie Race 5 - Stewards Enquiry into Daradale please. About $2.5 out to $5, slow into stride (after breezing comfortably in its first-up win over a shorter distance) and seemed to find every dead end after that, flew home late out wide against a massive leader bias. It didn't look pretty.
Above and Beyond - In regards to the Adelaide/Chris Waller 'Scroteoilgate' saga, imagine being the unlucky staff member whose task it is to apply the baby oil to the stallion's jewels. I'll have to take the tip from the Waller stable next time before I go for a jog, just need to hire me a stablehand. Can any applicants please attach a photo with their written submissions.

good to see them sowing the seeds for the failure that is about to come. So next year we can probably bank on about 45 Saturday meetings at Perth..Why not plan now to have every second one at Bunbury, Pinjarra, or Northam. And save the Ascot for only ever seco...

Rio, 2900 people is not a crowd. What is a crowd???? At Ascot you'd need about 6,000 to fill the place up..If anyone thinks they will get that many to a race track in WA on a regular basis they have been living in a parallel universe for the past 10 years....
