Comes across as a nice bloke too.
I guess it don't help him what happened with Reed - dogs were barking, was too good to be true. And it was.
People tend to be sceptical when someone appears to come from nowhere and they start training winners.
The sceptics seem to totally disregard the years of family involvement and look to other reasons to explain the success.
I don`t suscribe to the theory that if you trained pacers you automatically have success with thoroughbreds.
Many thoroughbred trainers seem to rely on blood tests and veterinary advice to dictate when they run their horses.
I am always perplexed why trainers don`t question their vet`s advice when their horses finish tailed off or clearly lengths off their best form (2 to 3 per race) despite having faultless blood tests and veterinary advice that the horse is in perfect condition.
Instead they conclude that their horse needs a spell and they don`t investigate if their own training methods and vets advice have contributed to the poor performance.
They also seem to have a mindset that comes from fragile 2 and 3 year olds and apply the same caution to training older fully mature racehorses.
Most of JTW`s success in both codes has been with older fully mature horses.
Perhaps those who doubt JTW`s success need to look in their own backyard and see what they are doing wrong.
" Maybe the trotting guys are just better horesmen(sic)."
I don't think so ...have a look at the list of trotting cum gallop trainer's
who have simply been found out in the end.
No doubt the different long slow work - does give them 'end of race fitness' but please, - better horsemen than all gallop trainers ???
I think Jack Kirkpatrick, L J Pike Jock Campbell and a myriad of old timers would have held their own too if they decided that they had wanted to 'get behind on, in a cart'.

JTW did the same thing at the trots when he started off, horses like Ted Barry, Allwoods Chief and many others, he knows when they are ready and when to move them on. Bloke is simply a bloody good trainer
So maybe he picked it up from those things DS.
Probably don`t need to be a psychological profiler just need to be observant.
Another soul destroyer is when owners start adding up the number of runs in a campaign, look how many runs JTW is getting and quite successfully.
Lot of posts being deleted around here!!
