Barakey fractures knee

West Australian Racing

X Rays have confirmed Barakey has fractured his knee in the Newmarket last weekend and will need at least six months in the paddock after he is operated on next week.

The Autumn turned out to be a disaster for Barakey after being scratched at the barriers and missing the Oakleigh Plate, then falling victim to injury in the Newmarket.

This is tragic news, not only for connections, but WA racing fans as a whole.

when you read that you just sort of wish it was nothing more than a bad run...

Best wishes to the owners for the future

As I said previously there had to be something wrong for it to perform that poorly, interrupted prep or not.

Amazing to me that people bag the approach JT has taken with him thus far. Up until last weekend, he'd earnt $400K in glorified barrier trials, all the while never been screwed down / put under any real pressure for one even one second. Then one real test at his previous to last run in Winterbottom - which he passed with flying colours.

Or you could put him in deep end start 4, and get something like this - horse possibly stuffed forever with bugger all in the kitty.

He's banked easy coin AND allowed the horse to develop/mature/furnish . . . yet somehow it is 'gutless' programming. Fair dinkum.

Wonder how many starts Hay List would've had if he wasn't looked after by JT. Probably a handful.

Yep bummer. All the best to the Barakey connections.

The whole Melbourne thing turned out shit but good on 'em for having a crack.

its a wonder he even finished the race with a fractured knee.
surely brown realised there was something radically wrong...why did he not pull the horse up?

Falc we must of watched a different Newmarket, when he was gone at 600 Brown stopped riding him and he eased him back through the field, he didnt even whip him at that stage and his action at the time didnt appear bad, and it wasn't a slab fracture, Taylor had already stated on radio he had a spur and it had obviously snapped off, he also stated track was like concrete! When I watched the race I was thinking to myself Something must be wrong because Brown hardly moved on him. I also didnt think much of his jump out and maybe Jim had been having problems keeping him up.
