Monday 19/3/2013 - Head-To-Head: Miss Andretti vs Placid Ark

West Australian Racing
PCPC    2,265 posts
Hi everyone,

I have been thinking about this for a while and now it's time to get on and do it.

To try and generate some interest and robust debate (respectfully of course) on this forum, I will be doing a 'Head-To-Head" segment each week (each Monday) involving WA horses from the past and present.

So please, join in the fun and discuss WA greats from years gone by. Also people, if you would like two horses to be up for the "Head-To-Head then please send me a message to my inbox and I will post it on here.

The innuargral Head-To-Head is:

Miss Andretti vs Placid Ark

Distance: 1200m

Track: Flemington

Weight Conditions: WFA

Falc u have to be some good gear if u would even compare Vain to Miss A, not within 10 L of Vain is M A.

Placid Ark by 2 for me, a non event

IMO Asian Beau was better than Miss A

Obviously you never saw Asian Beau race, absolute freak who when sold to Goldberg/Way still ran 2nd on Manikato on 3 legs

Sorry yep, bit to young for him thought it might have been a typo excuse my ignorance, he was foaled 11 years before I was born, can't seem to find to much on him...any ideas where I can find stats ect?

Asian Beau was an absolute freak, when trained by Bert Harrison.
Won first two starts as a 2yo then had a year off through injury,
As a 3yo won first two starts, the second as easy as you like. (I backed him to win the railway @$21 before he raced as a 3yo) then into the Railway Stakes as a 6/4 fav or $2.50 he was handicapped with about 46 kg if my memory serves me correctly And ran 3 rd last I think.
Apparently a number of bookmakers would have hit the wall had he won.so the was duly ridden accordingly.
In his first 10 or 11 starts he was only beaten once and that was the Railway Stakes. I was his number one fan.

Yes Webster was the usual jockey but I'm pretty sure it was Glen Davies in the Railway.

Correct on Goldberg colours. I recall having good wins on one of his in particular..Fundamentalist.. The old Goldberg-George Way was an interesting combination.
