This stallion really is now seriously going to dominate the Australian racing landscape if Your Song is an example of what he is throwing, I am just hoping he is going to be a sire of sires as both my weanlings by Therock are looking really good fingers crossed.

They said today that the Doomben 10000 and Stradbroke would be his final 2 starts.

Yer disappointing to lose another one would have loved to have seen the rematch with Pierro and ATH over spring and then this bloke in the sprints. Has Fastnet Rock had a good older male yet? of the top of my head cant think of one winning Group 1's Bart's 3yr old who won the Guineas never fired as a 4yr old.

After his last 2 starts I think sending Your Song to stud is a very bad decision okay his run in the B.T.C cup was outstanding but me personally I would spell him then have a crack at races in Melbourne and if he performs at Group level down there then maybe off to stud next year if not then the vet's scalpel awaits.

Had a nice winner at Randwick today he is called Bull Point he was a $960,000 yearling spending that sort of cash you would hope that it would go ok and if you watch the replay I am sure you all will agree

Now has another possible superstar in Monkstone he was a stunning yearling $1m pricetag but was a real nice type, good to see he was given plenty of time to grow into himself as his future could be anything (*)

Gold Coast yearling sales look good will be interesting to see what the grandkids of Fastnet Rock look like as he has plenty to offer as Hinchinbrook,Rothesay and Strykker all have first crops in the sale.

lucky he's 2012 foals were off a $132,000 service fee because looking at the sale results alot of breeders will be battling to break even with his 2012 + 2013 service fee
can't see him staying at that price with he's current results

Maybe they should put them all through the Karaka sales

12 sold so far for an average of around 347k

    Take the top 3 out ( 800k, 700k, 680k) and average around 221k

on 2013 stud fee of $275,000 doesn't leave much change

agreed - suggest unless his runners have super autumn and spring carnivals there will be a few breeders
    :-SS #-o

I do wonder though what the "actual" fee is compared to the advertised

Same happened to Redoute's Choice he got up to $330,000 (inc GST) but is now back to $137,500 (inc GST) the market will correct itself if he doesn't go on to be a super sire just hope he is a sire of sires like Redoute's Choice .
  • lamelame    1,757 posts
not much to worry about there spud ,the sons are throwing lovely types which i think won't help Fastnet Rock himself as people will go for the next best thing at a decent price being his sons
  • SPUDLEYSPUDLEY    1,584 posts
Total of 1312 mares to him or his sons last stud season in which Fastnet Rock got 211 himself at $275,000 a cover for total of $58m and who said there is no money in horses just depends on the horse.
  • Thoroly_BreadThoroly_Bread    2,348 posts
I'm not sure anyone would have paid $275000 for the service.
  • SPUDLEYSPUDLEY    1,584 posts
Then why advertise it at that I'm sure the ATO will know how much GST they got but whatever anyone paid it is still a nice set of numbers for the shareholders in the horse.
  • Thoroly_BreadThoroly_Bread    2,348 posts
Numerous reasons one being to drive the stock price up at the sales, I do agree what ever the price may be you can guarantee the shareholders are getting truck loads!

Another good day for Fastnet Rock yesterday he got the trifecta in the G2 Theo Marks at Rosehill , Cluster, Bull Point, Ninth Legion all good horses and a stakeswinner in Adelaide with Royal Ocean.

I read another son of Fastnet Rock, Rothesay, is producing very promiising 2 year olds.

Good luck to anyone who went to Therock.

Yet again another good day for Fastnet Rock 2 winners in Melbourne including the recently gelded Fast And Rocking and in Sydney a very impressive win by First Seal.

...and there are a few running around the backblocks here in WA...which the original owners probably paid a small fortune for.
you must bear in mind that he covers probably 100+ mares a season and we only become aware of the handful that are successful on the higher stage....not only F/net but RC, Commands, Snitzel etc etc
think of the 100's that never make it...take the rosy specs off....breeding is a complete raffle.
